    Go Browns!

I'm no Pettine fan but just once I'd like to see him explode about the "talent" on this roster. Pettine is a shitty coach but Farmer has done him no favors with this roster.
Petty has also down a horrible job at developing talent. Just horrible

That 3 yard TD by Dalton yesterday was horrible. Players out of position, etc. Dalton saw he could walk right in.

I also think part of it is that the players have packed it in. I don't think this team is loaded with talent but they have to be better (talent-wise) than the 1999-2000 teams yet it looks like they will get similar end results.

If we are gonna fire someone now it needs to be farmer, worry about Pettine later. We need to fire farmer and find a replacement asap so the new gm can have ample time to develop his draft board and gather potential coaching candidates.

Aisde from Johnny we I suspect Pettine had his hand in all of these busted picks.

We know Gilbert was Mike Pettine's guy. I suspect he was also just fine with Shelton/Orchard as he thought he was building a stud defense. Erving I can't say for certain, but given that he thought this team would win with running and defense (and we are the worst in the league at both) I bet he was even fine with that pick.

The talent is horrible, but I would bet the only pick he was really against was probably Manziel.

A GM is also more likely to draft players that suit a coaches style of play.

I agree. And almost every coach is gonna have a say in which players his team is drafting. Your coach is the one who has to incorporate players in to the system, for example, a 4-3 coach, would be against his team drafting Danny Shelton.

Agreed. I guess we'll know who may have been more at fault when the axe drops. If Farmer survives, he may get a pass because he was drafting for need and players Pettine wanted. I'll be stunned if Pettine, with his buffoonery, survives this.

I agree. I don't think either survives this train wreck.

Drafting for scheme, and then axing the coach and changing the scheme continues to set you back each and every time.

I know they've drafted for the 3-4 but I hope they go back to the 4-3 unless they get a talent evaluator who really knows the nuances of that scheme. Drafting guys who put their hand in the dirt, at the collegiate level, and projecting them to rush the passer & cover TE's/guys out of the backfield is kind of an art form. Not to mention not many college teams run a 3-4.

Is there any franchise that has only had two winning seasons and no playoff wins in the last 17? 1999-now

    86-182 .321

183 losses if you count the one playoff game

    This.

Essentially, next year, we are for all intents and purposes... We are an expansion team.

What if Farmer covered for Jimmy on text gate and he knows he is safe...?

    Yes. They will likely need:

    On offense:

    QB
    RB
WR (1 or 2, depending on Gordon's situation)
    TE (if Barnidge leaves)
C (Mack will leave, which sucks mostly because the Browns got him recovering from an injury in the year he will bolt. Someone will benefit from a healthy Mack next year)
G (maybe unless they want to keep throwing Greco out there because Erving looks like crap)
RT (question mark here because I think Schwartz is a FA)

    On defense:

If they stick with a 3-4...

DE (probably at least one....not putting NT because I think a lot of Shelton's issues are coaching)
OLB (2....they have no pass rushers)
ILB (at least one as Dansby is about done)
CB (possibly one, assuming Haden can return....might be able to let this position slide)
S (probably 2 as I can see Gipson gone in FA and Whitner is done)

If they switch to a 4-3, it will be even worse.

And we will pick the wrong guys in the draft and we will be looking to the draft again next year....

    What about JT regressing again?

Haden has what? 3 more years on his contract? He isn't done. I do think Jt could say something, but it's not his personality and it will never happen. Too much of a classy professional.

Also, I think Pettine was speaking about their tanking effort, because if that is the case they did well. I haven't seen legitimate effort from this team (especially the defense) since week 2.
I don't care who this outfit is that rates o tackles but Joe Thomas is as over rated as it can get., He is a decent pass blocker but a horrible run blocker and has been for years.

I don't need the "flavor of the month" PFF saying the Browns have a "top 3 O-Line", when they suck, "Aaron Rodgers was below par" when he lights up a defense for 5 TD's and "Josh McCown was below average in that Ravens game" when he played at a very HIGH level when you can SEE it with your own eyes. You can have your "metrics." I'll take the end results. That guy in Ireland/England is no more qualified to say who's good/bad than you or me.

And exactly what do "never having been to a Browns game" and "playing slots" have to do with being able to evaluate play on the field? Nice attempt at a pot shot, Pint Size. If this mindset holds true, I guess we should take what your scrawny ass has to say on the "Health/Weight Lifting" thread with a grain of salt too, correct?
You have no ability to grade anybody if you can say with a straight face that Johnny has sucked on the field this season. You are blind..as blind as the Cleveland media.

I think he's an exceptional pass blocker. I can't recall ever debating that part of his game but I do think he's an athletic/finesse type LT. Not a mauler who you can run behind who is a lock to get you 1-3 yards when you need it. I definitely think he's a 1st ballot HOFer but I've always had a beef with his run blocking skills.

    Manziel sucks

out to Austin Davis for yesterday's gutty performance. I give him a C plus. He had one pick, but should have been 2. He held onto the ball on 4th down and took a sack. Dumb. His backward pass was ugly. With all that said, he had no time to throw, had no receivers to throw to, and as usually got zero help from the running game. Johnny Unitas and YA Tittle in their primes wouldn't have scored a touchdown with this group.

If you suck as a run blocker...which he has for years, then he has no business being on a HOF ballot. Hall of Famers don't have 10 plus penalties every year either.

Browns need help everywhere EXCEPT quarterback. You should be happy that the team at least has a franchise quarterback. They need to deal their number one overall for as many picks as they can. Farmer and Pettine needs to be fired immediately, and it's time to move forward.

The Browns need help everywhere except left tackle. If the Browns end up with #1 pick, take Bosa.

He's only had 10 or more penalties twice in his career.
