Jon Lester finally did it....he is no longer hitless in his career

Pirates have the second-best record in baseball right now and are 6 out of first in their division. There's something just insane about that.

Gotta respect what they have done though.

In very recent memory they lose their manager, GM, the franchise player leaves, hire an inexperienced manager and have had some big guys go down to big injuries, yet they still win.

Used to hate them much more when LaRussa was there.

You ever read the matheny manifesto? If you ever been involved in coaching and had to deal with parents it will be spot on for ya.

Have you ever read it? Apparently it has been around for a number of years but I just saw it last month when my wife bought me the book. It gets a little sanctimonious at times but much of it were things we tried to instill and talk about over the years, and now going to my step sons youth games I see it all the time. I had only coached 15-18 year olds and it wasnt quite as bad as it is with the youth thank goodness.

Have not read. I've coached baseball from t-ball to 12u travel ball. Coached softball from coach pitch to varsity and to the regional finals. Coached girls basketball 3rd-6th, boys 2nd-6th, cross country 7th-12th, track 7th-12th. Counting rec, travel, boys, girls and different levels I've coach around 115 seasons lol.

Albert Pujols just tied Mike Schmidt with his 548th career HR.....it was against some Red Sox pitcher who threw him a 64 mph pitch???

Somehow...some way, Huston Street recorded his 300th career save last night. As someone who is pretty savvy on the counting stats.....I am amazed by this.

First big trade. Scott Kazmir to the Astros. Interesting. They were rumored for all the other big name pitchers...maybe they still might be.

Every time I see his name, I just smh at the fact the indians didn't sign him with a team option. Granted, he would have been gone after 2 years, but still.

Ramirez going back to the Pirates to end his career. Good move for both IMO

Quoting this because they brought up Lester's hitless streak when talking about the Tribe's Danny Salazar today on the radio.

Salazar is a modest 0 for 9 (9 K's) when compared to Lester but what was funny was Terry Francona's interview discussing it. Francona started with "normally I wouldn't say anything bad about a player (this is true to a fault....even when they need called out with a verbal ass kicking) but I'm at a loss when trying to say something good about Danny's hitting. He's a mess, a lost cause." (or something to that effect).

Salazar's hitting woes are a running joke in the clubhouse with Francona saying he's "always putting his shin guards on the wrong shins and often grabs two batting helmets."

    Yep.

    1. I can try to forget how they traded him for nothing as a youngster, only to have him spend his entire career in the same division, kicking our ass for like 15 years.

    2. Since he's retiring this year, the Brewers had no leverage and, therefore, only got a minor league reliever (converted from position player) who doesn't seem to be an actual legit prospect.

    3. After sucking badly the first month or so, he's been pretty decent. Not world-shattering, but decent. And anything that keeps non-big-leaguers like Morel and Floromon off the field while an actual bat is out there is good by my views.

True and we need someone to help against you guys, since I think we're worse against the Reds than about any other team out there for some reason.
