In the 9th the Cubs closer grazes the Cardinals batter.....HP ump calmly walks out to mound, asks pitcher a question, pitcher calmly answers and ump calmly tosses him and pitcher without emotion walks to the dugout???Uz2Bon36;1751782 wrote:Cards vs Cubs. Looks for a bench clearing.

I'm hoping this series ends with a couple season-ending injuries in a brawl. If Coghlan gets his head broken by a fastball, I will cheer loudly.Uz2Bon36;1751782 wrote:Cards vs Cubs. Looks for a bench clearing. -

The rule is stupid....should only be allowed to slide to the base.Heretic;1751939 wrote:I'm hoping this series ends with a couple season-ending injuries in a brawl. If Coghlan gets his head broken by a fastball, I will cheer loudly.
Until then middle IF have a duty to clear themselves of that danger and Kang didn't. It sucks he got hurt and I hate that slide but he's got to hop and get his leg off the ground and no injury. -
HereticWhile the Cards, Pirates and Cubs all have games against each other, so the overall standings could change, right now, we're at a situation where only 1 of the top 3 teams in MLB even has a chance of making it to their league championship series.
It really sucks for me that the Reds are choking their asses off against the Cards (who aren't playing that great right now), because with as good as Arrieta is pitching, my Pirates could be the second-best team in the sport over a 162-game season, but not even get out of the one-game Wild Card round solely due to being in the one division where they wouldn't be the best team. While teams like the Mets are guaranteed a full series. -
HereticAnd in news that sucks a lot more than "WHAT I'M BUTTHURT ABOUT IN BASEBALL TODAY!", Yogi Berra passed away last night. I might have to piss off co-workers all day today by responding to anything they say with one of his quotes.

Ironman92Robinson Cano just collected his 2,000th career hit....in just his 11th season. Also has 446 career doubles.

HereticClassy gesture by the Rockies. Pirates clinched a playoff berth in Colorado, came back to their clubhouse and the Rockies staff provided them with champagne so they could have a bit of a celebration.

This column was a fun read. A bunch of statistical factoids and stuff from this season that I, at least, found interesting. -
HereticWith today's win over the Cubs, the Pirates have essentially all but locked up the host wild card slot for that one-game round* with still a shot at the division (if they would sweep the Cards next week; without a sweep, they essentially have no chance).
*Going by the logic that even if the Cubs win both tomorrow and Sunday, they'd still be 2.5 back with 7 (them) or 6 (Pirates) games to play AND with Pittsburgh being at home for their six, where they've generally been very good this year. Meaning it would take a collapse by Pittsburgh and/or a decent season-ending win streak by the Cubs to reverse their order. Much in the same way that w/o sweeping St. Louis, Pittsburgh would need them to lose virtually every other game while they won every other one of theirs to have any sort of a shot. -
MulvaAre the Pirates planning on starting Locke in that game? Looks like the Cubs have shelled him this year.
-
Heretic
They have and they likely will again, since Locke has been really shellable recently. But it seems they're finishing the year with a 6-man rotation. I guess I can see it, since Cole's reaching his season-high IP and Burnett is still regaining strength after his injury, but man, I'll be so super happy when the postseason comes, just because that means I won't have to watch Morton and Locke play the "Which of us can be the more flammable oil can this time?" again. Morton's been good off-and-on and Locke is capable of the occasional good start, but Morton is off now and with Locke, I just pray he can approach a quality start.Mulva;1753112 wrote:Are the Pirates planning on starting Locke in that game? That's the problem with the high-minor pitching injuries they've had recently. Taillion and Kingham could have helped the team this year potentially, but injuries derailed their chances of contributing until next year at the earliest. And for some reason, the Vanimal has been all-but-ignored, even though I think he could at least do better than Locke, if not Morton.
Wait, but would Locke start against the Cubs this series? I think he did the last game against Colorado, so he wouldn't be up until St. Louis, which isn't better. In the WC game, I'd have to think it'd be Cole all the way. Pitch him in on regular rest in the final game with St. L, move Locke back to the first game with Cincy (or, preferably, only use him in the season finale if there's nothing on the line) and then use him in the Wild Card game. -

Derp. Switched them in my head. Figured Cole would start that game, but for some reason pulled up Locke's splits and didn't catch that I was talking about the wrong guy.Heretic;1753119 wrote:Wait, but would Locke start against the Cubs this series? HereticMan, let me just say that if they did start Locke in ANY playoff game, I would go on a lengthy whiny diatribe that would force Iggy to have to raise his game to be THE whiny bitch of the site. And do you know how much pent-up rage and frustration that would take?

HereticGood job Brewers! I have nothing but hate for you nearly all the time, but goddamnit, I was hoping you'd fucking win tonight and you actually didn't let me down, you bastards!
-
HereticNothing like rolling out of bed just in time to catch a 1 p.m. game. Except for how, with showering and heading to a friend's for beer and football, I'll only probably catch 3-4 innings of it.
Liriano-Hammel is a pitching duel so far. I was hoping the Pirates could have just jumped on Hammel like they did a week or so ago, but that doesn't look like it'll happen any time soon. -
Ironman92Liriano is dominant. Pirates are 14-1 in his last 15 starts.
Pirates fans would hate me but I'd start him in the WC game instead of Cole. -
Ironman92Oh Holy Hell Mike Trout WOW

Ironman92Fucking Papelbon getting after Harper (his teammate) to get to the dugout. Harper had to be restrained in the dugout as Papelbon stood there with crazy eyes. Wish Harper would've gotten to him.

Kinda apologizing but he is one psycho crazy SOB
