Goldy is the best overall player in the NL, IMO.

Harper is making it hard to argue for anyone else.

Votto having a season as good as Goldschmidt. Also, clearly not a contender.
  • Ironman92
Votto isn't quite as good at 1st and Goldy hammers him in base running ....but Votto only trails Harper in hitting value
  • Azubuike24
Yeah, Goldy with the 20+ SB is untouchable by almost any other slugger in the league. Defense at first is an average at best measurement. Votto previously won a gold glove, but I would agree that he's got a tendency to not live up to that in the field. Funny though, the 1B gold glove usually always goes to a guy who is one of the best hitting 1B's...

I think Rizzo is one of the best defensive first baseman but metrics have him towards the bottom.

Votto might be the worst base running superstar ever

I wouldn't say "baserunning" or "defense." I'd say overall, he's got the tendency to have mental lapses anywhere except at the plate.

Wanting to hear like_that's thoughts on what Bryce Harper said.

He got after the Nationals fans for leaving in the 7th inning of a big game. I know you think (and I agree) Nationals fans are shitty front runners but what are your thoughts on Harper calling them out?

Personally, I wish he would've worded it differently but I don't mind him wanting them to be loyal.
  • Ironman92
Harper doing all he can but Cespedes in just 36 games in the NL is getting some MVP talk. He's certainly moving up the board. Mets are 25-11 since Cespedes came over and he has 14 HR and 36 RBI and OPS over 1.000.....offense has went from sub par to the very best.

Votto went apeshit on the dumbass ump tonight....holy rage

That was pretty wild. He just kept going and going and going. Don't know how long his tirade lasted, but it felt like forever.

He should have called them out. Nats fans aren't real fans. 95% of the "fans" just adopt the Nats as their "second" team.

Even worse, the calls against Votto were ridiculous. And the ejection was even more ridiculous. It was clear the umpire took it out him given their past run-ins. You still can't go off and get in his face like that.

I honestly don't care that Votto went off on the Ump. Fuck that guy. If a player asks for time, in that situation, you grant it. If you want to tell them to get back in box or you're putting it in play, that's fine, but you grant the initial time. The umpire should be disciplined for unprofessional behavior.

Votto should, too. But it's both, or none.

My thanks to the Reds for doing their part to make it a race down the stretch in the Central. It would be nice if the Cards completely collapse over these final weeks, so the Pirates have a chance of avoiding the wild card game.

Statcast (which I fucking love...shocking I know) got Arod at 19.0 mph running from 3rd to home on a sac fly.

Impressive for a 40 year old of his size.

Pirates off to a good start in game one of a day-night doubleheader with the Cubs. Up 4-1 in the fourth and just ran off Hammel.

With how they're only 2.5 behind the Cards, I'd be feeling really good, but I just read that in the next few days, they'll have to go against all 3 legit Cy Young NL candidates with Arrieta in this series and getting both Greinke and Kershaw in their weekend Dodgers series. Even with St. L. playing pretty chumpy right now, it's hard to imagine too much ground being gained against that opposition.

Guh, Cole struggled in the 7th, Soria came in and brought two runs in on two wild pitches. Tie game at 4-4 going into the bottom of the 7th.

Game 1 goes to the Pirates 5-4. Puts them 2 behind the Cards and 5 up on the Cubs going into tonight's second game (as well as StL's game with the Brewers). They could be within one game or back to 3 behind depending on what happens.

And thus end's today's "mini-Darby" (only 3 straight posts; SHAMEFUL!) look at baseball.

Harper 2 more HR, RBI single and a walk....running away with the MVP on a non-playoff team
  • Ironman92
Sam Fuld made outs in back to back at bats in the 7th and 8th to position players pitching for White Sox. Leury Garcia and Alexei Ramirez

Kang's season is over as Coughlin slid into his planted leg and MCL tear and tibia fracture.

Sucks....when he came about is when the Pirates really took off this year. He's a presence in that lineup.
  • Ironman92
6 players in MLB have 30+ Hr and 100+ RBI.....3 of them are on the Blue Jays

Yeah, it's really gonna suck. Not a dirty play, but from a guy who essentially ended someone else's career doing the same thing. MLB went all in to protect catchers after golden boy Posey got run over, but middle infielders apparently can be taken out as long as the slider makes an effort to touch the base.
