  Apparently, they offered him a coaching position last year when he got off the DL. He could've retired and been a coach or finished out the season.

  So does anyone think the Reds should offer Bronson, and take the risk of him accepting? Personally, I don't think it's worth the risk for a chance at a draft pick.

  He has been good enough for a 5 spot in the rotation. Is reliable and pitched very well last year. Yeah..he can throw out some bombs at times. Before last season I would have not have signed him but right now...why not?
  The rotation.....who knows what it will look like. Chapman MAY be in there, but other than him and TC there isnt much help reportedly, and the rumors of trading an arm for a bat is out there.
  
  I would counter with 2 years and maybe a little less and see what they do.

  I think it was stupid. Arroyo has said he wanted a 3-year deal. Would he really accept a 1-year deal, even if it's more per year?

  Well their "experts" must have some good info that there isnt much interest from anyone to sign him for that long, so possible they believe he will take it.

  I mean, imagine if the Yanks got BP? The market for Cano now shrinks to about half of what he wants. No other team is giving him close to 300M, so where is his leverage other than him being a lifelong Yankee?

  With $50 million freed up from an upcoming Brandon Phillips trade – "He's gone," one executive said Tuesday – and the departure of Bronson Arroyo and Shin-Soo Choo, the Reds have a decent amount of payroll flexibility, even if they extend Homer Bailey, Johnny Cueto or Mat Latos, all of whom will hit free agency within the next two years. While the Reds control Bruce through 2017 with three guaranteed years at $34.5 million and a team option for $13 million, the prospect of a pre-emptive extension isn't far-fetched, not when it's precedent for players with premium skills.
  
  At age 26, three years into a six-year extension with an option – exactly where Bruce is – Troy Tulowitzki tore up his deal and signed a 10-year, $157.5 million contract with Colorado. With four years left on his original pact, Longoria tacked on a six-year, $100 million extension with a club option. The Reds have precedent here, too: one year into a three-year, $38 million deal with Joey Votto, Cincinnati added 10 years for $225 million.
  
  While Bruce's agent, Matt Sosnick, said "an extension never has been broached," he didn't quash the idea. "Obviously, Jay loves playing in Cincinnati. He's made it clear in the past that all things equal, he'd like to finish his career there and certainly would be open to anything."
  
  There is creativity, and there is risk, and great baseball teams emerge where the two meet with success. Bruce does not play a premium position like Longoria and Tulowitzki, doesn't have the all-around offensive game like Votto, but his glove is excellent, his baserunning solid and his power unimpeachable. The strikeouts are frightening, but teams treat that as collateral damage for home run hitters, and the prospect of Bruce hitting the free agent market at 30 – an age after which Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Adrian Gonzalez, Alfonso Soriano, Jayson Werth and Ryan Howard signed contracts totaling $1.06 billion – may indeed concern Cincinnati, even if it does have him locked up through his prime.

  Crazier, only 13 PLAYERS hit 30+ HR's. Pitching is really starting to dominate, and thus, becoming much easier to find guys who can be "solid." I think that's why we're seeing value, even in guys I hate (Arroyo, Leake, etc...). Look at Scott Kazmir. Guy went from completely done to another near 10M+ contract. There is also a huge number of guys who have has resurrections.
  
  Bartolo Colon. Freddy Garcia. John Lackey. These guys looked completely done at one point. There are many others. On the contrary, big run producers are at a premium. Even with guys who strike out a lot and don't put together the whole package. If you can hit 30+ HR's, your at a premium.
  
  It's an interesting perspective on how the game has shown a huge momentum shift even in just 5 years. It's almost back to where it was in the 80's and very early 90's.

  Good. Hanigan is a total waste of 3M million and was taking at-bats from Meso. They need to sink or swim with Mesoraco. With Hanigan around, they were always going to be tempted to play him 30-40% of the time and start him with certain SP's.

  Cuban born switch hitter younger and cheaper than Hanigan, but not nearly as good at preventing steals.

  Saw ESPN's Jerry Crasnick report that Boras is looking for more than $126 million for Choo according to the marketing books he is circulating on him.
  
  Everyone apparently thinks he's nuts, but then that Werth deal shows it only takes convincing one owner in order to back up the Brinks truck.
  
  Choo is a good player, but for the love of God is .285/21HR/54RBI really a $100 million player? I saw him enough with the Tribe over the years that I just can't see it, especially not for someone that's going to turn 32 soon (the age at which players start dropping off without PED's).
