TedShecklerGod no!

justincredibleA career .288/.376/.515 line against RHP. IF (big if) he stayed healthy he could be a nice platoon guy. Give him an incentive-laden contract and it's really not that much of a risk, right? It's at least worth looking in to.

PRobably could get a decent deal and maybe catch lightening in a bottle.
Plus if he does well it pisses off clev fans. -
TedShecklerHeisey, LeCure, and Simon all signed deals to avoid arbitration.
Bailey seeks $11.6 million in arbitration, Reds offer $8.7m. Leake asks for $6.2m, offered $5.65m. Chapman asks $5.4m, offered $4.6m.
Edit: Leake signed at $5.925m. -
Ironman92So Homer will get 10.2 and Chappy right at 5

Ironman92For Bailey

I think its good news for both sides! He hasnt put up that steller year to expect an outrageous contract. I think, and hope, the reds get lucky like they did with Jay Bruce's contract. Good, solid contract and fair to both sides. If they had waited on JB>..he woulda got alot more.Ironman92;1569546 wrote:For Bailey -

Oh I'm fine with something reasonable.....but 7 yrs 110 million or something would bother me.thavoice;1569555 wrote:I think its good news for both sides! thavoiceI am thinking 7 years........80-85 is fair for both sides? If he makes another step forward this season and continues on that would be a bargain.

Azubuike24Bailey will laugh at 7/80-85M.
Not saying he is worth a lot more, but he's just entering his prime. Also, Scott Kazmir, after about 25 good games, got 11M per year and he's 4 years older. Other guys currently on the market are demanding 15-17M per year (Ubaldo Jimenez) and are significantly older. If I had to guess, Bailey will want AT LEAST 15M per year, if not up to 20M per year given his split stats, stuff, age and ballpark all of his stats are based on.
I mean, compare Homer Bailey and Tim Lincecum's career numbrs and then factor in their ballpark. Look at what Lincecum just signed for...
LINCECUM (age 29, 30 this summer) - 3.46 ERA, 113 ERA+, 1.243 WHIP, 2:78:1 K to BB ratio (signed 2yr/35M deal)
BAILEY (age 27, 28 this summer) - 4.25 ERA, 96 ERA+, 1.319 WHIP, 2.56:1 K to BB ratio
This is going with overall career too. Bailey is NOT the same pitcher he was his first 2-3 years (he's much better) and Linecum is not what he was his first 4 years (he's worse). -

Yeah, I agree. Guess it was just wishful thinking.Azubuike24;1569646 wrote:Bailey will laugh at 7/80-85M.

Thing is though, Lincecum had tremendous years under his belt and HB has that potential but hasnt put up those numbers yet.
I think it comes down to how much he wants to stay in Cincinnati and what his agent pushes for. -

(Sizemore) Ha! No way does that piss off Cleveland fans. I wish only the best for Grady who was a great player and a good guy. Would be a great story if he came back....Plus if he does well it pisses off clev fans. -

IF he comes back and plays well enough and beats the tribe it may!!!HitsRus;1569770 wrote:(Sizemore) Ha! No way does that piss off Cleveland fans. I wish only the best for Grady who was a great player and a good guy. Would be a great story if he came back....
I am not against the reds signing him. Cant be for much or anything guarenteed.
The reds are going into this season not improving what they need to and that is very disappointing. They will need Votto to return to his MVP type of year and Bruce will need another 30/100. Frazier will need to continue getting better, Hamilton will have to prove he can get on base, Cozart neesd to take another step....the pitching staff needs to be stellar again.
Looking like a 80-85 win season. -
Ironman92As for Grady Sizemore.....Luis Castilla has more hits in the last 5 years.....and he retired in 2010
-

..and he along with Skip Shumaker are the big offseason acquisitions!!!Ironman92;1569781 wrote:As for Grady Sizemore.....Luis Castilla has more hits in the last 5 years.....and he retired in 2010 -

Skip at least plays baseball.thavoice;1569814 wrote:..and he along with Skip Shumaker are the big offseason acquisitions!!!
Pudge and Bobby Abreu are more current.
I'd probably take Kenny Lofton over Sizemore -
Azubuike24I do think the Lincecum "situation" and timing of that signing is one of the strangest I've ever seen in the sport.
Guy dominates early. SFG rewards him with a short-term deal (he got 2 years and 43M) to avoid arbitration. He then drops off for 2 years and is a free agent. Instead of him hitting the market, SFG way overpays him to keep him when they basically didn't give him a huge deal to begin with for this exact reason. If I'm ANY free agent pitcher in my prime, I point to Linececum's terms.
2012 - 21M
2013 - 22M
2014 - 17M
2015 - 18M
He's going to bank 78M over 4 years... -
sherm03Jocketty says that the Sizemore signing will not happen.
-
Ironman92In other disappointing news they will not be signing Garrett Anderson, Glenallen Hill, Steve Finley or Rocco Baldelli
-

Ironman92Told you the Reds should've signed him....
-
se-alumUncle Walt making a splash signing Chris Nelson(who?) to a minor league deal. Reds avoided arbitration with a 1yr/5mil deal with Chapman.
-
Midstate01I honestly don't think the Reds will win 85 games this year. They'd need huge years from guys that I'm not sure are going to have big years. This team got better nowhere.

I'm with you. We all expected that Choo would be gone, but I didn't expect us to do nothing about it. This team has gotten worse this off season. We're going to need the pitching staff to be excellent if we're going to compete.Midstate01;1573479 wrote:I honestly don't think the Reds will win 85 games this year.
