  BA did sound pretty shitty last year, his voice was shot.
  Thought it was funny when all the old fogies were leaving during his show. Few of them next to us I guess expected him to play some Rat pack music or whatever as they left mumbling about his rock and roll!
  
  but anyways...redsfest is fun. Not sure something I would do every year, and with the weather pending probably a good idea to sit this one out.

  Maybe this is coming full circle but the new pitching coach is Jeff Pico. Jeff Pico was a scrub that pitched in parts of 3 seasons for the Cubs.
  
  I remember that game in 1988, his very first career game. Pico faced the Reds and pitched a 9 inn, 4 hit shutout....striking out 6 and walking no one. Ever since then that's when I started noticing that whenever the Reds face a pitcher that no one has heard of with less than stellar stuff....they seem to look ridiculous.

  The biggest thing is the Reds are going to have to write a nice sized check to Homer next year. I'd do the deal. I don't think Kemp will have the injury issue this season like he did last.

  The only way that deal works for me is if the Reds get a TON of cash back. And I'd rather not include Bailey. I think he could bring back a better haul on his own.

  Matt Kemp and Brandon Phillips have been two of the offseason's biggest names rumored to be on the trade market, and there was a chance the two could've been dealt for each other in a blockbuster. The Dodgers and Reds "briefly spoke about" swapping the two All-Stars earlier this winter, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, but the Dodgers didn't have much interest. L.A. wasn't keen on adding an older player (Phillips is 32) who is owed $50MM through 2017, plus the Dodgers felt the deal wouldn't have been a fair swap if Kemp returned to full health.
  
  
  It sounds like this "rumor" was someone deciding to run with the real speculation that LA was not interested and figure Bailey might sweeten the pot. As others said, the price you could likely get for Bailey is far more than what Kemp and his contract bring.
  
  Now, a Phillips for Kemp trade would be interesting because the Dodgers have the outfield already covered. Also, if they feel there is any future injury risk with Kemp, Phillips at the 4yr/50M price is far more valuable than Kemp at 6yrs/122M.
  
  Sounds like there was never really a rumor other than Twitter BS involving both Bailey and Phillips.

  The "insider" Twitter account pumping this said Phillips and Bailey for Kemp and $18MM and Bailey was working on an extension.

  I want to keep Bailey. When people were ragging on him I had his back over the years as I saw his progress. You dont find guys every day that throw 96+ even late in games. It isnt like he is wild. If he can just straighten up a few things, and I think he is on that path, he can be a very good pitcher for a long time. I would like for the reds to sign him. Keep this guy, YOu drafted him, developed him, been very patient with him when ya brought him up probably too early.....so take the credit for the hard work and sign him long term.

  I think that's what they want to do, but you can't force a guy to sign long term if he doesn't want to, and you sure as hell don't want to let him walk without compensation of some sort. I think we all want Bailey around, but if he we can't sign him, we have to get something.

  And we dont know if/what has been offerend. He has been hamered by fans over the years, and also by Marty and the reds own flagship station WLW as well. That could def leave a player butt hurt.
  
  Who is his agent? That may give some insight on what HB will end up doing. Dont think he has one of those superagents.
  
  I think if the reds put a big number out there that he has to seriously think about signing it right?

  Bailey has said he loves the Reds and wouldn't eliminate them. However, he's basically dead set on testing free agency. This is what makes him tough to deal, because unless someone just blows him away with an extension offer, he's going to test free agency. At this point, knowing this, the Reds are better off keeping him, netting a draft pick for him and then trying to re-sign him. It certainly sounds like he would give them a fair shot if the money is right.

  Agreed. Plus use him up for as long as they have him. What would they get in return? Good prospects that MAY be good in a few years? I would rather keep him, use him, and do their damndest to resign him. Reds have opened up their pocketbook for some of their own home grown guys, and also BP got a good one. HB is one of their own, keep him and pay him

  Pay him what? If he has his FIRST full good year is he going to want some ridiculous contract?

  He had a great year last year. 1.12 WHIP, .234 BAA and a nearly 4:1 K to walk ratio and almost a strikeout per inning. He was probably a top 15 pitcher in the NL last year, if not better. Definitely the best Reds starter. Only Tony Cingrani was better, but he pitched about half the innings Homer did.

  He's already had 2. He is steadily improving as he enters his prime. He's going to get paid.

  That's the thing. He's not even 28 years old until May. Mat Latos just turned 26. Johnny Cueto is 27. Mike Leake is 26 and Tony Cingrani is 24. Honestly, if the Reds just focus on giving nice contracts to these guys and then just keep Votto and Bruce (Bruce is locked up until 2018, Votto until 2022), they will be able to contend for a while.
  
  This excludes guys they probably won't pay going forward, including Chapman. It makes the next 2-3 years of "development" of great importance so they can fill some of these offensive holes.

  Is Latos? Or Cueto? Given age and various factors, they will all be able to demand about the same. Latos has age on his side. Cueto has the best stats of the three. Bailey is a mix of both, and likely the best "talent."
  
  It's a huge crossroads for the organization what they end up doing in the next year with these three guys. A wrong decision or two could spell disaster.
