Cleveland Cavaliers Offseason Thread 2013

^^ I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure we can keep Miles. Not sure if they will, however.

This is a 50 win team if they can stay relatively healthy.

Especially Kyrie and dion will certainly improve. And I am really optimistic about Bennett. I think he could be a better millsap

Didn't forget Miles. I think he will be waived in order to fit Bynum under the cap. I know we have room for $6M but I think for the ceiling of the deal. Remember seeing something saying all three teams after him had to make a move to fit him and ours was waiving Miles.
I think this looks right for starting 5. Personally not a huge TT fan, he looks like he doesn't know the plays at times and just scores off of put backs. I think we have a guy that will be better at cleaning up missed shots and could see TT's numbers drop off this year.

Over on RCF someone shared a tweet that said expect an Al Horford like game from TT this season. Not sure I buy into it but at least it sounds like he's working hard this offseason. I think he has a place in the league but I wish he had some resemblance of an offensive game outside of that push shot.

Also being reported the Cavs are going after AK47. Not sure how we'd fit him but who would have guessed at the beginning of the offseason we could have Kyrie, Dion, AK47, AV and Bynum as an opening day lineup?

This link doesn't have what Bennett and Karasev will be making. According to basketballreference.com, Bennett will be making 4.4 and Karasev 1.2 That brings the guaranteed total up to 37 million. The salary cap is 58.7 (rounded). Bynum will put them anywhere from 43-49 million for 14 players. Miles (2.2), Quinn (1.1) and Jones(788K) are all non-guarenteed. Including them, the payroll is at 47-53 million.

If my math is incorrect and cuts need to be made, then yes, Miles seems like the odd man out.

If the Cavs get AK47 to start at the 3 then wow, they have by far had the best off season and could win 50 plus games.

    Whooohoo!

Just got home to see the good news.

Also, good call Sam Amico LOL

There is no way AK47 is going to sign for ~2.6m when he turned down his 10mil player option with the T Wolves

The only risk is to Gilbert's bank account.

I think he would take a pay cut from the 10 mill mainly because I don't think he wanted to be in minny.,I think we could get him for about 6 mill a year though

I don't think AV and Bynum will start together. They'll probably want to keep Bynum's minutes down, especially at the beginning of the season.
  • sportswizuhrd
Jason Lloyd says they are capped out because the full 12 Million for Bynum counts against the cap. With 15 guys under contract Quinn is likely to be cut. Also said what Pick6 said about Kirilenko signing for 2.6.

    15 players...

    PG - Irving/Jack/Quinn
    SG - Waiters/Miles/Felix
    SF - Gee/Clark/Karasev
    PF - Thompson/Bennett/Jones
    C - Bynum/Varejao/Zeller

If Quinn goes, they need a 3rd string PG for 2.6, if Miles goes, they need a back-up SG.

Any takers on Barbosa, DeQuan Cook, Marquis Daniels, Wesley Johnson or Roddy Beaubois? :)

If you're not being facetious, I'd probably want Dequan Cook as a 3 point shooter off the bench.

Still pretty pumped about Bynum. This team can be very good if they stay healthy and their younger guys improve.

Please god no marquis Daniels. Ill take barbosa for 2.6 and just stick em on the bench.

I'd take Daequan Cook for a 3PT specialist off the bench for vet minimum. Could be had for cheap and lets the Cavs see Karasev in the D-League before expecting anything from him in 2013-14.

Tell me more. I haven't heard of this. I'm definitely getting the nba package. This 5 team thing sounds interesting.

I didnt get it this year, because I didnt have the money.

But from what I understand, you can get an online NBA package through PS3/laptop/ipad/whatever. You get to pick 5 teams to watch, so you get their games, but that is it. Its a discounted price which is whats awesome. Only 5 teams and only online is the downside.

You don't take a top 20 pick and put him in the D-League, unless he's really bad. I like the kids game, and think he can contribute a lot this year.

Bynum signing makes me like the Bennet pick even more. Imagine if we had picked NN, then we'd have a log jam in the paint. Bennet presents more match up opportunites for us. Bennet at the 4, TT at th3 5 if we're playing small ball. Bennet at the 3, TT at the 4 and Bynum/AV at the 5. Can go big with Bynum and AV etc...

So is Bynum going to be ready for opening night? I haven't seen much on how he's actually doing.

His agent said he would be ready by training camp but the Cavaliers are not going to rush him. They have the depth right now to make sure he is as good as he can possibly be before he steps on the court.

Its a great deal overall. Not too many opportunities to get a player to Cleveland that has Bynum's skill set. Obviously his injuries played a part in him being available but if its only going to cost Gilbert 6 million if it all goes wrong then I am okay with that.
