2012 Pittsburgh Steelers Offseason Thread. Gone Fishin
-
killer_ewokYeah, that makes more sense.
-
NonA lot of the scouting reports highlight his read and react skills and he's considered a coach on the field.
He is small, almost looks like a safety. Looks like he plays much faster than his 40 time. -
NonDeCastro - A+
...Clearly a steal. Could be a cornerstone type lineman for a decade.
Adams - C
...He's saying all the right things but still a risky move after the Steelers have had to deal with and try to overcome some off-the-field issues the past few years.
Spence - B
...He'll fit in somewhere but might be more of a wild card at this point. I think the Steelers feel confident in Foote, Sly and Timmons inside for 2012 so Spence might make his biggest impact on special teams. They probably could've addressed another position such as nose tackle that would help them more immediately. I like the talent level of Spence, though. -
killer_ewokWould love for the Steelers to pick Jared Crick at some point today.
-
NonKeith Butler, Steelers LBs coach, said that Spence figures to be a special teamer his first year. Foote and Sly will play the "buck" position, replacing Farrior, and Spence will be behind Timmons at the other inside spot.
Butler is a good coach, experienced and he consistently says that it takes a year for a player to get comfortable at linebacker for the Steelers. They usually don't come into his system and thrive right away.
That makes that a bit of a questionable pick -- if they don't come away with a decent nose tackle prospect. If they get a NT then it doesn't matter too much. I think NT is the only position they have to address and I'm thinking in Round 4 or 5. -
NonAdams is a natural, experienced left tackle. Those, of course, are more difficult to find. Especially if you're not picking in the Top 15 overall.
Steelers took a chance on a first round caliber, true left tackle at No. 56 overall. Maybe worth the risk if he pans out and provides stability there.
They were planning on moving Gilbert from RT to LT and playing Colon at RT but that could change depending on Adams. -
NonIn the Post Gazette article about DeCastro, it says that against Washington last year Stanford rushed for 446 yards. DeCastro played mostly against Alameda Ta'amu and whipped him. Alameda had no tackles and was a non factor. That may not say anything about Ta'amu -- only more about DeCastro -- but thought that was an interesting note.

Non
I think he's going to go early in Round 4.killer_ewok;1155932 wrote:Would love for the Steelers to pick Jared Crick at some point today.
I would love for the Steelers to get him.
I think Chapman, Ta'Amu and Fangupo are names to watch with this next pick. -
killer_ewokSteelers traded up...
-
NonWe had 7 picks today but could only trade 4 of them.
-
killer_ewokTa'Amu it is.
-
NonThere's our guy Ta'Amu
-
Non348 lbs...powerful...I didn't like the inconsistent label but he's the best NT left and we had to get somebody
-
Nongave up a 6th
-
killer_ewokI like the pick and that they moved up to get him.
-
NonThey pick in the 5th (159)
And then four in the 7th (231, 240, 246, 248)
I think they'll grab an offensive skill player with the 5th round pick -
NonDeCastro - A+
Adams - C
Spence - B
Ta'Amu - B+
Significantly beefed up the offensive line.
Added a nose tackle.
I'd classify Spence as a wild card but intriguing because he's a captain type with great speed running sideline to sideline and to the football. -
killer_ewokChris Rainey RB Florida

NonLove it. Fast. Versatile guy for Todd Haley.
A draft -
killer_ewok5'8" 180 lbs 4.45 40 time

NonTeammate of Pouncey at Florida and in high school at Lakeland
good special teamer -
NonI think they take a kicker in the 7th
-
GoPensGreat draft for the Steelers. I agree about picking up a kicker in Round 7.
