thavoiceI see the browns finishing 10-6 this season and beating out the steelers in week 17 for the playoffs. It is their destiny to finall start on the right track. They have wondered the NFL desert for so many years, and now Moses, I mean Colt, will finall lead them to the promised land.
So it be posted, so it shall be done. -

Charlton Heston has a stronger arm than Colt. -

considering that we have won 12 games three out of the last four seasons and have only been below 10 games twice sinc 2005...i dont think 11 games is unreasonable. -

Year older for the vets, a new offense, lingering injuries from 2011, playing what I call a tough schedule...I think that this team will fall below 10 wins this yearGblock;1146996 wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pittsburgh_Steelers_seasons

or most seasons for that matter..we are always thin at oline, always need a corner, never have a good backup, and have a great linebacking core and defense. we needed a new offense it was becoming too predictable -

He wasnt asked to win games by himself his rookie season. He was asked to hand the ball off, and be very safe in the passing game.Gblock;1147005 wrote:Meh...not much different than bens rookie year imo

This team NEEDS him to win games with his arm.
I am happy that a new offense will be in place as I thought Arian's didnt use it to the full potential. This team should be able to run the ball more effectively than it has been. Gone are the days of winning games on the ground, but Arians put so little emphasis on the running game it let to defenses not paying much attention to it and going after BR. I am hoping that Haley's offense will put more importance on the running attack so we dont have to rely on the QB to win it by himself -

i guess what im trying to say is that the seasons the steelers had the most question marks and lower expectations have been some of our best in this decade and the seasons like when we were coming off of superbowl with very little questions we sucked. its all about motivation when your back is against the wall and not being all fat and happy and satisfied. i think we will be very hungry and mad after that denver loss and have a great season.thavoice;1147013 wrote:He wasnt asked to win games by himself his rookie season. killer_ewokWill Mike Wallace not report and sit out the first 10 games or will he play the whole season out? Or do the Steelers and Wallace get a deal done? Do they trade him? If he still wants Fitz money there's no chance in hell that he'll be a Steeler after this season.

Gblocki hope we can get a nice deal done and lock him up long term.
so who are we going to draft first? are we still targeting the nosetackle donteri poe -

Sounds like the Poe hype is cooling off some and there is bust potential being talked about (generally) due to his conditioning and lack of big numbers last year (33 tackles). Also been emphasized by a Steeler media person that Hampton isn't on the field most of the time due to facing pass-happy offenses and therefore there are more pressing needs.
Have heard about Hightower and eh, Mike Adams (Happy 4-20!) being potential picks for the Steelers in the 1st round. -

Became official at midnight but everyone knew that he wasn't going to get offered by another team for a while now. It's better than the alternative but this standoff is far from over. -
thavoiceYa know what....fuck Wallace. This isnt how the steeler roll. He needs to have a much better, and longer career, to pull of this stupid ass threat. At least when Ward had a little squabble he had established himself as one of the best WR in steelers history.
Wallace can run fast and catches some deep passes. He also gets those quick pop passes thrown to him but before he can expect to get paid as an elite WR he needs to be a more complete receiver. He needs to be able to run good, solid intermediate routes and be more effective.
Yeah...i like wallace...but if he wants to be one of those fuckin asshole, PRE MADONNA WR's then he can just leave.
and there is no way the steelers will ever pay out the $$$$ he is wanting so he best just decide now...does he want to stay with a franchise, one of the best in the nfl, who competes regularly for the crown or does he want to just be "one of those" kind of guys... -

meh...its a business. he likely wont sign another big contract so this is his opportunity to get paid. i cant blame him i would do the same. if he got hurt would the team still pay him? nope they would cut him and move onthavoice;1150612 wrote:Ya know what....**** Wallace. killer_ewokWhat kind of annoys me is that he wants Larry Fitzgerald money but Wallace has not put up big numbers in the postseason whereas Fitzgerald had a record postseason for a WR a few years back. Also, he got out of the gate fast last year only to see his performance tail off in the second half of the season. I know Wallace drew double coverage and that opened things up for AB but still...elite receivers can still find ways to produce when there is a gameplan to stop them and Wallace didn't do that. Guys like Fitz can make plays by going up to catch passes in double and even triple coverage.
I can understand Wallace wanting to get his big contract but the money he is asking for is a bit ridiculous. AB and Emmanuel Sanders will be RFA's after the upcoming season so the Steelers might be better off investing in AB for less than Wallace's asking price.
I want them to keep Wallace but not by overpaying. And we know there's little chance of them paying him what he wants. -
NonHaven't talked much draft but here's my two cents.
I think the Steelers have a good chance of getting a real good player with their first round pick.
The two players I would stay away from are Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford and Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State.
Here is why:
Marcus Gilbert who they just drafted last year in the second round had, for the most part, a solid rookie season at right tackle. I don't think there is much drop off from Gilbert compared to Martin or Adams. They can try to slide Gilbert over to left tackle for the long term with Willie Colon starting at right tackle next year.
If there was a no doubter, cornerstone left tackle available then that would be different but neither of these players are that impressive.
Left guard is the bigger need area on the offensive line and there are some good options available in DeCastro (if they traded up), Cordy Glenn or Kevin Zeitler (not flashy but a blue collar masher type.)
Both of the nose tackles mentioned -- Dontari Poe or Jerel Worthy -- would make sense.
I think they'll pick Dont'a Hightower if he falls to No. 24 just because they know he'd be the best player, but I doubt he's around.
I also like Stephen Gilmore, the CB, from South Carolina. He should go mid first round but if he happens to fall, he would be a steal.
Thumbs up:
Dont'a Hightower
Dontari Poe
Jerel Worthy
Stephon Gilmore (if he slips)
David DeCastro (trade up)
Cordy Glenn (Steelers don't seem real high on him but he brings tackle/guard versatility)
Kevin Zeitler (safe, good pick if everything else falls apart)
Thumbs down:
Jonathan Martin
Mike Adams -
killer_ewokYeah, wouldn't mind any of those players you listed.
What do you think the chances are that they trade up? -
wes_mantoothGilmore is supposedly listed even or above Claiborne on several teams boards....all rumor of course.

If I was in the GM position, I'd be very interested in moving up to get DeCastro. I think he would be a classic Steeler and perennial Pro Bowl guard. All of a sudden they'd have a strong offensive line with Pouncey and DeCastro (two Pro Bowl caliber dudes) and Ramon Foster is above average. The interior line would be set. The tackles would not be great but with Gilbert at LT and Colon at RT they should be solid at tackle and therefore overall significantly better than they've been in recent years.
But having said that, I doubt they want to make a risk like that. For one thing, they don't really have the extra picks to move up without giving up say a third rounder this year and then you only have two picks in the first three rounds. They may have similar thoughts about moving up for another player like Poe or Hightower but I think they'll eventually arrive at the same conclusion that they'd rather have all three picks in the first, second and third than gamble on getting one stud in the first round.
They'll have those discussions, I think, but won't move up, ultimately. -

I've seen some mock drafts putting him in the 20-25 area but then others have him going much higher, even in the Top 10.wes_mantooth;1151870 wrote:Gilmore is supposedly listed even or above Claiborne on several teams boards....all rumor of course.
He has good size and he catches the ball, which is what the Steelers lack from their cornerbacks. I don't think cornerback is on their first round radar and I don't expect Gilmore to be around but that's one player if he happens to be there I'd take just for the simple fact that he'd be too good to pass up. -

exactly, if he is there....might be too tempting to pass up.Non;1151880 wrote:I've seen some mock drafts putting him in the 20-25 area but then others have him going much higher, even in the Top 10.

NonProbably the most interesting position for the Steelers going into this draft is at running back.
Mendenhall may not be 100 percent for the start of the season. I personally think Isaac Redman can do the job but I may be higher on him than the team is. I also like Baron Batch's potential but he got hurt last year, so you have some uncertainty there and a couple guys with potential but not much NFL experience.
They may take a look at a running back like Isaiah Pead or LaMichael James after the first round or at the very least a speedy, kick returner type like Chris Rainey. -
NonToo bad the Steelers couldn't swing a deal for Steven Jackson.
That would be a match made in Heaven.
He's still in his prime and sick of being on a losing team. He'd be an animal for the Steelers for a few years.
We don't have the pieces or picks to trade. -

Read some tweets about this exact idea earlier. Bettis part 2? As you said, doubtful it happens for the reasons you mentioned but I would love it.
