2012 Pittsburgh Steelers Offseason Thread. Gone Fishin

Hampton and Starks both suffered injuries to their ACL's yesterday, and Keisel has a "significant" groin injury.

    O line and D line

Im not as worried about the secondary despite the game yesterday...its impossible to cover a guy man to man for six seconds. troy did too much gambling and we needed clark back there.

I think hines should be done...he got his 1000 catch what else is there to prove. he doesnt seem like the type that would be happy on the bench.
  • Automatik
I'm not sure if it should be their #1 concern, but IMO they must address the starting corners.

I'm not putting the blame on them for yesterday, but I'm just over them. I wanted them to mix it up last year and they didn't. I'll be pretty pissed, but not surprised, if Gay and Taylor are the starters in week one next year.
  • End of Line
I wouldn't mind seeing them pick up Mike Adams even though he has his gaffs and I want to see them move up in the draft and take a CB.

"I'm also getting lots of questions about retirement so let me set the record straight: I have no plans on retiring right now. I want to win another Superbowl. I don't know where the media is getting this info from but rest assured that when I decide to retire, you'll hear it from ME first. - HINES"

Well if he stays in Pittsburgh he better expect to be sitting on the sidelines a lot. I'm surprised to hear he's that adamant on staying. I thought he would retire for sure.

Would you rather go with cb's like Alfonzo Dennard from Nebraska or Janoris Jenkins from North Alabama (I believe a Florida transfer) with the first round pick to get that cover corner and then use like 2-3 picks on offensive line later?
Jenkins would be awesome based on talent but they have generally avoided guys with the character concerns like him. I would like to see they take him if they can avoid any trouble because realistically he is a Top 5 talent. But I also think they need to take the best lineman available because it has gotten painful to watch over the last few years. They drafted a couple DBs last year so unless they can get an absolute top tier guy, they should probably go after a lineman.

He'll mentor the younger guys and get his 1 pass per game

BTW GoChiefs, you follow Hines on Facebook?

So did I. But it could be a pissed-off knee-jerk reaction to losing in the wild card round a year after being in the Super Bowl. The kind of thing where he decides to call it a career after a few weeks or couple months. Or it could be a legit feeling that if the team was healthier, they could have made a run and he's thinking they could do it next year if they avoid some percentage of the injuries, since this year was probably the worse year for injuries with the team that I can remember. But I can't see him having much more of a role other than "sideline coach/fifth wideout" next year if he does come back.

i still think he retires..he just wants the announcement to be his. either way if he plays i doubt it would be the steelers but maybe another contender imo

Let Hines be the last receiver one more season....give him his play or two a game and let him be a presence on the sideline.

I've never cared a whole lot about the draft outside of a few players over the years.....but this year I am. I don't know the best CB available (Mathieu?) or if others are 1st worthy but it's been about 16 years since the phenomenal Rod Woodson....I can't stand the same 3-5 cornerbacks we've had forever. Ike Taylor is only good at jamming at the line and Gay made a few "in the right place at a big time plays"....but in rounds 1-6....I'd take the two best CB's, then the two or three best lineman available.....unless there is an outstanding player available that no one predicted.

I want a very good CB!!!

Mathieu isn't even rated that high. Claiborne is the #1 rated corner.

Alfonzo Dennard out of Nebraska is is a possibility, but I don't know much about him. I like Hosley out of VT, but I'm not sure if he has declared yet.

Pittsburgh is unpredictable regarding the draft so who knows wtf they will do.

I don't know of the ratings....Mathieu is excellent in college and has great ball skills....not rated high?....would he be around in the 4th round or later?

I just want a guy with excellent speed, very good ball skills, good hands and not stupid. We have average speed guys with little ball skills (Gay not bad), not great hands and stupid.

He's a true sophomore anyway. He'll be back.

A new website to discuss this amongst other Pittsburgh fans would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!

Gerry Dulac reporting that Bruce Arians will not return next season.

    Yes!
  • GoPens
Mike Tomlin's father passed away today.

And that is good news about Arians.

Saw that about Tomlin's Dad earlier.
  • THE4RINGZ
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tomlin Family tonight.
  • thavoice
Yeah...heard about Arians maybe retiring. Guess the RB coach, Kirby, was thought to be the next in line but with the fire and injuries does Arians stick around one more season?

WOrd is probably Fichnter would get the OC job.

I say good riddance to Arians. Yes....ben has passed for alot of yards but I just do not like Arians scheme at alal.
  • killer_ewok
    It's official. Arians has retired.

Take it FWIW but Kenny Roda is reporting that the Steelers are close to signing Troy Smith.
