steelers need to hire Pat Shurmur as their new OC. Please get it done. Look at what he did for the Rams and Bradford.killer_ewok;1060158 wrote:It's official. Arians has retired. -

Ironman92Arians retires! Two things here:
1. Bruce, I hope you have an enjoyable and healthy retirement.
2. Victory in Jesus -
GoPensChris Hoke retired today. Not surprising after his injury this season.

Hokie was underrated. Not a "huge" loss but he will be missed. Just a solid player whether off the bench or starting. -

Yeah, Hoke made it tolerable when Hampton was injured or unmotivated/overweight. He'd come off the bench and provide a spark, instead of a noticeable dropoff, like you might expect. I'll definitely miss his contributions.killer_ewok;1065894 wrote:Hokie was underrated. Not a "huge" loss but he will be missed. Just a solid player whether off the bench or starting. -
Commander of AwesomeWhat was his injury?

Had a neck injury that needed surgery. Something you don't mess around with.Commander of Awesome;1066416 wrote:What was his injury?
Kind of puts the Steelers in an interesting situation. What do you do with Hampton? He's having ACL surgery tomorrow, he's 34, he's been known to not come into camp in the best of shape, and he's an $8 million cap hit next year. I think the Steelers would have liked to have cut him and saved the cap space, but they may not have a choice now with no other options. The Steelers are about $25 million over the cap for next year. -

What can the possibly do with Hampton though with him being injured? Can they even just cut him or would they have to come to an injury settlement? They cannot really afford to pay him that next year, especially now with his injury. I wouldnt expect him to get off to a very quick start next year because he rarely is ready to go and this will set him back even further.GoPens;1066874 wrote:Had a neck injury that needed surgery. thavoiceI think whomever the OC is that they bring in that they integrate the stuff what worked for the steelers, and then add in his own twist to it. I really hope they dont have to go through a whole overhaul of the system. It would behoove the new OC to have BR assist in the actual playbook like he was allowed to with Whiz and Arians.
I know BR was mad at BA basically getting booted, but I think BR maxed out in that offense. He has alot more talent to expand on I think and a new OC can bring that out. One playaction played was one they relied on with going deap with Wallace, and alot of the passing attack was BR making stuff happen after the original play broke. I think what we will see is one step back, and then 3 steps forward for this offens.e -

Ben is just pissed because Arians was making him into a stat monster, but the offense had serious stalling problems.

BR1986FBI actually heard some ridiculous trade rumor of Roethlisberger & Mendenhall to the Colts for the rights to Andrew Luck. I'm assuming the Colts would want more.

Highly doubtful. I see Luck as a QB you'd want to sling it around with his talent. If Rooney is looking to go in another direction with the offense I'd think Luck wouldn't be his guy.LJ;1070101 wrote:Irsay is crazy enough, but are the Rooneys?
Truth be told, with all of Pittsburgh's WR weapons, going back to a more "ground & pound" type offense is like jacking off while wearing a rubber (waste of time & resources). -

Agreed. Maybe he wants to go more balanced with more play calling IQ? Arians was very very predictible at times.BR1986FB;1070113 wrote:Highly doubtful. I was baffled on the goal line stand where Chris Gocong stuff Mendenhall 4x's in a row at the 1 against the Browns. I was thinking 'Arians CAN'T be THIS stubborn." I was expecting play action or a QB sneak at some point but it never came.LJ;1070115 wrote:Agreed. Maybe he wants to go more balanced with more play calling IQ? If there was ever a time where I could have ruptured blood vessels in my throat from yelling at the TV, that would have been the time.BR1986FB;1070129 wrote:I was baffled on the goal line stand where Chris Gocong stuff Mendenhall 4x's in a row at the 1 against the Browns. thavoiceThat trade rummor is just plain stupid. You dont trade a superstar who is just now coming into his prime for a guy who wasnt taken a snap.
BR will flourish more under a new OC...BR will put up even bigger numbers. -
BR1986FB
He will be 30 in March and that's an "old" 30 with the wear & tear his body has taken. I'm sure they will upgrade their O-Line but I don't see things getting any easier for him physically.thavoice;1070203 wrote:You dont trade a superstar who is just now coming into his prime for a guy who wasnt taken a snap. -
thavoiceI think BR has 5-6 very good years left in him. TP is a magician on defense and I think the steelers need to do whatever they can in the next 2-3 years to win it all. TP allows the defense to do so much in the front 7. They were "old" but they can replace some of those older guys up front and do ok.
They need to look at the OL, and I think they really will. I am not a fan of Rooney coming fwd a bit more. He needs to let the coaches coach and he needs to get them the players.
As much as I think Luck will be a good QB, I would still keep BR over what luck MIGHT do. -
BR1986FB
The problem is Polamalu is becoming one of those "old" guys too. He's a gambler and when a gambler on defense loses a step, they are in trouble. Polamalu always looks good out of the gate, while he's fresh, but as the season wears on, the injuries surface and his effectiveness dwindles.thavoice;1070285 wrote:I think BR has 5-6 very good years left in him.
