2012 Cleveland Browns thread: AKA Pat Shurmur Memorial thread

An interesting name I keep hearing that is on the rise is Rueben Randle, WR, from LSU.

The Broncos beat the Steelers because Ike Taylor played the worst game a CB has ever played. He got abused by megatron Jr.

Is RGIII a can't miss QB? Or is he just the second best QB in the draft? Go get a Matt Flynn or Jason Campbell and draft play makers. RG3 is a track guy who had WR that could run past defenses. That's not happening in the NFL.

That last part of your argument is so flawed. You are blaming him for having weapons?

So, what if we draft RGIII and that track guy lol?

I disagree that Ike played the worst, Eric Wright against the Ratbirds last season was right on par if not worse.

I said this early in the year and I'm reiterating it now, I still like Brian Quick from App St. I wouldn't be opposed to not drafting a WR in the first round and waiting to pick him up in the second. I think he's going to be a stud.

Campbell? Really? At least Flynn has SOME upside. Campbell would be a waste of time.

I'm really tired of trying to put a band-aid on a hatchet wound. We need a QB, Campbell is not even a butterfly.

Campbell would be a stop gap and then you take a guy like kellen Moore in 4th

Im not blaming him, just tired of seeing Big 12 qbs with amazing stats flop in the league. I don't think a 6' 180 lbs qb that's strength is scrambling has a very good shelf life in the afc north

I think we've seen enough "stopgaps" playing for the Browns. If they are going to change QB's they need to either a) bite the bullet and use a 1st rounder or b) trade for or sign Flynn in FA. Enough of the dicking around trying to "mold" QB's.

Ike gave up 200 yards receiving plus had 2 or 3 flags

Get some weapons and a serviceable QB. Look at Houston.

I know you've been warming to the idea of Flynn, I'm not sold on him based on a few solid performances but I get the feeling that's where the front office is heading.

I'd love for them to take RG3 because I like the potential of his explosive playmaking ability. His ability to move could cause issues for defenses in the division. BUT....I just don't see Heckert grabbing this guy because Holmgren/Shurmur think their WCO is "the way" to go. I can't see them being flexible like a John Fox.
  • ytownfootball
I'm not sure I understand what about RGIII screams "I can't run a WCO" lol Sure he has other skill but what says he can't do what's required in that system?

Heckert was around when Andy Reid brought in Donovan McNabb who was FAR from a WCO type QB. I just don't see them doing this with Shurmur. Unless RG3 wows them at the Combine and shows he can play under center I just think they will believe it (trying to convert a shotgun QB to WCO...hasn't been a glowing success with McCoy, so far) is too risky.

Wright gave up 3 TDs against the Ratbirds. I'll take the yards over 3 TDs.
  • ytownfootball
I think it's a mistake to pass on RGIII. While going under center is and has been difficult for McCoy, I think it's safe to say thet RGIII is far more gifted athletically that Colt. As long as he isn't scoring an 8 on the wonderlic you take him. If by chance he doesn't have it one of two things will be apparent, either he'll need traded or the coaching staff will be on the outs (front office for that matter too) Their two time frames are likely the same.

He's listed as 6'2'' 220 and while he is very, very fast, I think it's hard to say his strength is scrambling. The guy can throw the ball extremely well.
  • Mulva
That's a pretty solid analysis. I'd move QB down to 4 and swap OLB and CB, but other than that I agree with everything listed. It's sad how many needs this team still has.
  • bases_loaded
Does he throw a good deep ball or does he make all the throws. AT 4 he better do the latter.

If you're referring to RG3, he can make all of the throws and throw a good deep ball.
