They could get a solid starter in FA at the RDE, OLB and OL (guard or tackle) which would then allow them to use draft picks on offense but I doubt they do this. Heckert seems to have his "build through the draft" blinders so firmly entrenched to the sides of his head that it seems like bringing in starter quality free agents isn't an option.shook_17;1042555 wrote:you can only have so much depth with those turds. this is what pisses me off about these guys. you can get one or two starters in free agency it doesn't hurt. -

Which sucks if that's what he does. I doubt he does though, they have so much spending money in cap space they will get at least one legit acquisition. -

Unless they use most of that money to re-sign their own free agents. Browns have 11 free agents that could hit the market, I believe.SportsAndLady;1042579 wrote:Which sucks if that's what he does. A name that many have forgotten as a potential spot pass rusher at RDE is Marcus Bernard. He's one of those free agents. I think he was a forgotten man after his Evil Knieval/Kellen Winslow incident. -

but really 15 to 20 mill on those guys? (assuming we have 30 mill or so to play with) i don't know if they are worth it. id like to have marcus back.BR1986FB;1042582 wrote:Unless they use most of that money to re-sign their own free agents. They should have anywhere from $33 million (right now) to $50 million (depending on who they let walk).shook_17;1042605 wrote:but really 15 to 20 mill on those guys? (assuming we have 30 mill or so to play with) i don't know if they are worth it. id like to have marcus back. -
shook_17and don't they have to use like 99% of that on players now according to the new cba? if so im calling their bs. they will try for a big time wide out and maybe OLB or RE
-
BR1986FB
It's nice to have that money but they won't be the only team with a lot of money to play with. Having it and getting good players to come here are two different stories.shook_17;1042623 wrote:and don't they have to use like 99% of that on players now according to the new cba? if so im calling their bs. they will try for a big time wide out and maybe OLB or RE
Hopefully with the other three teams in the division in the playoffs they realize they need to pick up their dresses and make this team more competitive, FASTER. -

very true. just have to outbid them. but they have to be sitting back saying oh f*ckBR1986FB;1042629 wrote:It's nice to have that money but they won't be the only team with a lot of money to play with. Having it and getting good players to come here are two different stories.

shook_17colston looks good besides that fumble. i think he is over 100 yards

If this were Phil Savage I'd agree with you but I don't see Heckert overpaying or getting into bidding wars. Funny how Holmgren is GROSSLY overpaid but they seem to penny pinch, as of late, when it comes to FA's.shook_17;1042649 wrote:very true. just have to outbid them. but they have to be sitting back saying oh f*ck -

I mean if they're going out and trying to get these FAs and they are just turning the Browns down, then Okay.
my issue is going to be with them saying okay we'll give u 2 million a year and when they say make it 2.5 or im goin to the ________, And they say fuck it and back out. This is Cleveland, FAs aren't gonna come for cheap. You got the money to spend, so spend it. -

I thought it was 90% at the team level and 99% league wide.shook_17;1042623 wrote:and don't they have to use like 99% of that on players now according to the new cba? if so im calling their bs. they will try for a big time wide out and maybe OLB or RE -

I'm not in disagreement that they are going to have to overspend to attract GOOD free agents. I just have my doubts about them throwing around money. They make no sense. They offer Gocong a much better deal than Hillis after Gocong comes off a "meh" season and Hillis has the year he had last year?SportsAndLady;1042667 wrote:I mean if they're going out and trying to get these FAs and they are just turning the Browns down, then Okay.

When you are drafting at the top of the draft for a decade, eventually you will have enough good players to make to the playoffs for a one and done.SportsAndLady;1042512 wrote: Ha idiots!

Y-Town SteelhoundWhat are everyone's thoughts on Santonio Holmes if the Jets decide to part ways with him? (Besides BR's since we all know that any time a Browns fan brings up anyone who went to Ohio State they are automatically a homer/biased/blind/etc.)
Personally I'd take a shot at him if he could be had for a decent price. There's no denying his talent and his role as arguably the most clutch receiver in the NFL. Off the field he has had his distractions, but I don't see him being a problem in a place like Cleveland where he would be receiving a lot of balls thrown his way. He's a legit #1 receiver and might be had for a better price than guys like VJax and Colston. -

I would pass on Holmes. Book on him is he doesn't play hard when the team isn't winning. That's not something the Browns need to deal with right now.Y-Town Steelhound;1043137 wrote:What are everyone's thoughts on Santonio Holmes if the Jets decide to part ways with him? No I don't want anyone who quits on your team in the most important game of the year -
Y-Town Steelhound
Really? Cause I recall him having the BEST game of his career in the biggest game of his career (Super Bowl MVP).Crimson streak;1043146 wrote:No I don't want anyone who quits on your team in the most important game of the year
The Jets are a mess and while Santonio is partly to blame, he certainly isn't solely. -
DeyDurkie5def don't want holmes nor does that pos want to come here

Great talent but too much baggage (drugs, quitting on team, etc).Y-Town Steelhound;1043137 wrote:What are everyone's thoughts on Santonio Holmes if the Jets decide to part ways with him?
