    Heckert on # Browns Daily:"If there's a great
defensive player there we wouldn't hesitate to take him but we realize the
    offense needs help."

Heckert on # Browns Daily on the price of
moving to top of draft: "To say it's going to cost you (3 1st rounders), that's
    never happened."

    OfficialBrowns Cleveland Browns

    Heckert on # Browns Daily: "I don't think we're
starting all over (at RB). We're expecting Montarrio (Hardesty) to be back
    (healthy)."

Heckert on # Browns Daily on RBs: "We're
expecting Brandon Jackson to be back healthy. And we'll see what happens with
    Peyton (Hillis)."

Heckert on # Browns Daily on O-line: "That will
be a position we have to look at at free agency and the draft."

    OfficialBrowns Cleveland Browns

Heckert on # Browns Daily: "We want all of our
good players back. Next week we'll start talking about (re-signing free
    agents)."

Holmgren on # Browns Daily:"We are going to have a
healthy competition (@ QB), which (Colt McCoy) does not mind. And let's see what
    happens."

Holmgren on # Browns Daily: "We can help that
(quarterback) position by shoring up some other positions as
    well.

Holmgren, # Browns Daily: "It's healthy to have that
extra edge (from competition). This isn't a bad thing & the cream will rise
    to the top."

Holmgren on # Browns Daily: "I always felt that you
drafted a quarterback somplace and put him into the mix and maybe hit on
    one."

Holmgren on # Browns Daily:"If you're going to shoot up
to get a franchise quarterback, that's a different deal. He is going to be your
    guy."

Holmgren on # Browns Daily: "Either way, we're going to
get a quarterback in the draft or free agency."

I think it all depends on mannings rehab till the draft. If they think he's going to bounce back fine I think we could get luck with both our firsts and maybe a 2nd next year and probably McCoy or a 3rd this year. I personally would do it

The Colts only have until March 8th to make a decision on Peyton.

it sounds like if hillis is gone they are comfortable with hardesty and jackson. well that how i took it anyway
  • Commander of Awesome
I didnt take it that way, I did think he came across as sayonara Hilis.

Listening to 92.3 this morning they were breaking down Holmgren's press conference. They both agreed that Holmgren basically said that McCoy's days are numbered as the starter without actually coming right out and saying it. This says a lot for Booms to admit this because he swings on McCoy's nuts like he's a future Peyton Manning.
  • BR1986FB
I also get this sneaky feeling that Holmgren is going to target a free agent QB versus drafting a rookie who has never taken an NFL snap to be their starter. From his past history (Favre, Hasselbeck), I would think that Flynn would be the target. I've been saying "no, no, no" to a top 5 WR but if the QB is in place I'd warm up to taking Blackmon with their pick in this scenario if he's still on the board.
  • Commander of Awesome
From what Heckert said though, I highly doubt we go Blackmon with the first pick. I kind like Flyod or Wright better than him tbh. There's a good chance one or both will still be there when we pick our 2nd first pick and possible that Wright is there in the second round.
  • se-alum
I wouldn't be opposed to taking RGIII and Wright with our first 2 picks.

    +1. id love this.

I don't think they are going to take RG3 now.

Probably not. I wouldn't mind Blackmon and Wright with the first 2 picks. The WCO isn't necessarily about having a true #1 guy, but you need to have 4 or 5 good receivers. Blackmon, Wright, and Little would be a damn good start at a nice WR corp. BTW, I know this won't happen.

They need weapons, for sure, and a QB to get them the ball.

Listening to Heckert interview by vic Carrucci, he really pwns Free Agency and really doesn't sound like we're going to be that aggressive in FA.

Sounded like he was looking to address the RT issue thru FA though.

he better. we have 30 million dollars in cap to spend. maybe we lock colt up long term ;)

Blackmon's skillset and playing ability are extremely similar to TO. If you can give me TO with the 4th pick, I want to take it.

Which is a mistake, imo. You obviously want to build through the draft and not go hog wild in FA but adding 3-4 key pieces along with a solid draft could give this team some "makeup speed."

If he dicks around with this turtle-like "slow and steady wins the race" through the draft attitude, they WILL lose fans, regardless of Holmgren's arrogant statement that the fans will 'stick with them." Building through draft alone will take another 3-5 years just to be a playoff potential team.

and what pisses me off about not going the FA route and mainly building through the draft is that there is zero emphasis on actually winning games. Why win games and put yourself further back in the draft when you have a 5 year plan anyway? I'm sick of that shit. Get a mix and win now asshole.

Don't they have to spend to meet the cap expectations

They do but they don't have to go outside the organization. As they said in the presser yesterday they have a bunch of guys on the roster that can/need to be resigned (DQ, possibly Dawson). By the time they resign who they like, who knows what will be left.

Mel Kiper: McCoy to tumble to No. 3

    Jan 5th, 2012 @ 8:06 pm by Steve Doerschuk

Mike Holmgren wasn’t quite so direct in his marathon talk today.

An interesting exchange from an ESPN chat with the head of an NFL draft empire:

    David from Cleveland:

What’s your assessment of Colt McCoy after his 2nd season? Do the Browns draft RGIII or go for Blackmon and try to build around Colt? Peter King leans towards the latter.[/COLOR]

    Mel Kiper:

The league is about what you’re doing now. This league doesn’t develop QBs. Green Bay is the only team that’s developed a QB. They did that with Rodgers and see what happened. What you have to do with McCoy is do that. He doesn’t have the talent around him to do that. His top receiver was Greg Little, who didn’t even play football last year. He was in the top 3 for NFL WRs for drops. I think Colt McCoy won’t be the starter for next year. He’ll be reduced to No. 3 behind Seneca Wallce. The QB that starts next year for Cleveland is not on the roster right now.

I think we need RGIII. If we don't draft him and he's there... I'm going to be pissed

That's not what he said though. Just said not looking to be a big spender in FA ala the eagles last offseason. In his presser with Holmgren he even mentioned getting 3 or 4 guys but that was about it.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. I'd like some better "quality" than Usama Young this year.
