Free agency first! When that happens we will def have a good gauge on where this team wants to go in the draft.DeyDurkie5;1039561 wrote:Really excited for this draft...A lot of things can be done and it's going to be interesting to see where the organization thinks we need to go. -
Commander of AwesomeListening to Holmgren and Heckert's presser. Doesn't sound like Heckert wants to move up for a QB nor does it sound like Blackmon is on the list at #4.

Commander of Awesomelol at the end of the presser, Holmgren asked the media if they'd be upset if they stayed put and selected a defensive player at #4, majority of the media paused for a second then said, "what? yeah we would be"
One guy admittedly did say he'd be fine with a pass rushing lber. -

Holmgren presents play-by-play man Jim Donovan with game ball at start of news conference. # Browns
Holmgren on if Colt McCoy is franchise QB: "I think he could be. He can be. I'm not ready to say that yet." # Browns
Holmgren: "I'm not ready to annoint Colt yet." Said he loves McCoy & Seneca Wallace.
Holmgren: There will be QB competition before 2012 season. Decision will probably come before reps are divided for 3rd preseason game.
Heckert: Probably won't sign QB in free agency who he expects to start, but you never know. Same goes for drafting QB early.
Holmgren: We'll probably bring in QB every year to compete.
Holmgren: Organization will stick to philosophy of building through draft rather than being extremely active in free agency.
Holmgren said he's a little ticked off by 4-12 record but he's not discouraged.
Holmgren on rebuilding: "We're going to stay the course. We're going to do it a certain way. ... Growing pains are difficult."
Holmgren said he thinks defense took a big step. Said he saw some crazy things on special teams he's never seen before.
Holmgren: There isn't an offensive area that we won't look hard at and try to add to and upgrade, including receivers.
Holmgren says he's not going to talk specifics about RB Peyton Hillis' contract situation.
Holmgren on Pat Shurmur: He is good, he is smart and he will do what he has to whatever it takes in an unselfish way to make team better.
ABJ_Browns Nate Ulrich
Holmgren said he told Shurmur last year to call the plays himself if he didn't get the OC he wanted. Never hired OC. Now looking for one.
Heckert: We'd like to have all our good players back. We have numerous free agents & we like a lot of them. Time will tell.
Heckert on QB Colt McCoy: We think he has enough talent to be a player for us. Has he made mistakes? Yes. We think he will get better.
ABJ_Browns Nate Ulrich
Holmgren on Shurmur: I have the utmost confidence in Pat to get this done. No one's on the hot seat.

Holmgren: Helps to have size at qb in the AFC North. Not sure Flacco/Big Ben were drafted because of size, but because they were good # Browns
ABJ_Browns Nate Ulrich
Holmgren: It certainly helps to have a big QB in AFC North. But physically, our guys are big enough to get this done.
ABJ_Browns Nate Ulrich
Holmgren: We didn't interview Brad Childress last year for OC. Now what we're gonna do this year, I'm not gonna talk about.

Joked with media about wanting to gauge their reaction about drafting a defensive player at #4.
That's a rap everybody. -
Pick6So it sounds like he is giving McCoy another year. I'm OK with that. If they get some weapons and still no progress, then next year has to be his last chance.
