Yep. This is from W&G on RCF, who despite what people say, has hit on more than he's missed. He nailed the LeBron fiasco during the Boston series when he said James isn't the same guy he's known over the years and said James cut off all communication with the team.
Everyone needs to adjust their thinking and expectations so that they are in-line with the team's longterm plan.
Every move we make for the next two to three years is going to center on makiing us as stroing and competitive as possible in year 2012-2013 forward.
That means seeing that we have great cap flexibility and space for the summer of 2012 and 2013 ...and also building up as many draft assets in terms of picks on into the foreseeable future.
This team will never be centered around just one singular mega-star ever again. We are looking to develop talents longterm in the mold of how the Spurs have done through foreign leagues, and D-Leagues ... and we are looking to get lotterly picks and as many additional picks as well so that regardless of where the ping pong balls fall, we will have assets to move up and get our dream pick.
We want to draft a star or stars in the lottery ....try and hit on high upside projects like Eyenga via longterm projection and development ... then, when we have attractive high quality pieces in place, we go after a high profile free agent to bolster and already strong young base.
Getting this casino in place will help as well. I will offer attractive opportunities for players looking to take care of family/friends, and give us alternatives and angles that other teams don't have.
But, it will be a process ...a process that will rely on us throwing kids in there and taking lumps like the NJ Nets of this past season. Building a strong future nucleus, that may not win much at all ...but, keep your eye on the future when evaluating moves we make.
We may have false prophets like Ricky Davis types. Guys that we'll bring in and build their resume's with numbers, and then turn them into picks ...things of that nature. -
thedynasty1998Yea, I think for that reason, and I thought that was common knowledge, this is a good signing.
Sign him for two years, he's a guy who will play hard and is pretty cheap. Then hopefully in a few years you start acquiring those young players and developing them. -
devil1197Good move by not tying up a lot of cap and it continues to fill out the roster.
W&G nailed it imo. Cleveland will continue to fill out rosters with guys like Graham for 2 yr/2mil for the next couple years before going all out with our cap space.
Clearing cap space, collecting draft picks/trade assests, and developing our young players should/is our main focus for the next 2-3 years. -
jpake1Eh, maybe they can become an 8th place team.

They don't "want" to become a 8th place team.
They want to collect their own lottery picks to combine with the late 1st and 2nd's they will have every year. -

They won't have to worry about that with signings like Joey Graham. The Cavs best chance at a revival is just dropping an atomic bomb on this coming season and then getting a guy like Harrison Barnes or any other top NCAA recruit -
wes_mantoothI found this article amusing...didn't want to start a new thread...

I'd love to grab Harrison Barnes. He's a great player and even better person. However, the chances that Cleveland gets the #1 pick next year is 0%. Even if we finished with 8 wins.
These moves enable the Cavs to have a fun team to watch and entertain the crowd with high flying acts of athleticism, while still sucking.
I also think Joey Graham was signed to "goon" LeBron -

The Cavs are no longer wine and gold, but the actual color scheme is much closer to the jerseys you posted. It's a "yellow" now. -
