Cleveland Cavaliers (current) off-season rumors

With a name like "Commander of Awesome", I don't think youre in a position to flame on anybody, sir. #JustSaying

No good players want to play for the Cavs now that Lebron left. Wtf dont you understand about that. What is the GM supposed to do? Maybe he should of threw 50 mil at Barnes. Would that make you feel better?

    1. Grossly over for a free agent. You don't see the Celtics, Lakers, Magic, or Spurs do this. You DO see the Warriors, T'Wolves, etc. do this.

    2. Trade players who are going to give you significant minutes this year unless you can find a deal that benefits the team more.

Because the Cavs didn't do either of these 2 things, I can say that ownership and the front office is at the very least competent, which is a lot more than about 12-15 other teams in the league can say.

Sometimes the best moves are the ones not made, and I think you'll see that in the Cavaliers this season and into the future. Lebron's refusal to either inform the Cavs of his plans or commit to a future in Cleveland prevented free agents from coming into Cleveland over the past few years (Trevor Ariza among them), so even though Cleveland tried to put talent around Lebron, Lebron made it next to impossible to do so.

You keep being ignorant to how much Lebron truly handcuffed the Cavs, and I just can't see why.

I firmly believe as soon as it was conceivable that Miami could land 3 "max" players, that is where Lebron and Bosh wanted to go. When that exact point was, it's tough to say, but it's pretty easy to read between the lines of what sportswriters (most especially the PD's own Windy) said, and that is Lebron had his mind made up a while ago, and in that time period refused to commit to the future of the Cavs and that is what handcuffed them.

I agree with your first two points. I never said the Cavs should have signed someone and overpaid. They are building for the future so they obviously don't want to commit a bunch of money to a guy that isn't going to be a key piece.

Your second point is one reason why I wouldn't be so set on trading Delonte. I think Delonte is a good NBA player with a favorable contract, so why trade him for Sessions? I think Delonte might be the better player, and already has the rapport with the current roster (his legal and mental problems aside).

I don't buy into the fact that Lebron handcuffed the Cavs anymore than any other free agent out there. He signed basically the first day possible and expedited the process as much as one could have hoped for. The Cavs knew he was a free agent and they had to recruit him the same way everyone else did. Should he have told the Cavs in a different manner? Sure. But he didn't handcuff the Cavs anymore than any other free agent who explored their options.

With that said, I respect your opinion and I can appreciate you adding some substance to a discussion, rather than being a dumbass like Commander.

I'm not upset they didn't get Barnes. I think he's a good player, but he doesn't really do anything for the future.

I've said before that I don't envy Grant's job, because he's in a really difficult situation. But he hasn't done anything to make me believe he is going to be the GM long term.

Prove its not. I happen to know it is true.

Give me 1 scenario where this offseason would be considered a success in your eyes(cant have anything to do with lebron)

I'm not the one being constantly called out for lack of knowledge, you are. That would make you the dumbass of the board. Guess its hard for you to understand that. I also didn't take 5 years to graduate from a community college, I mean Ashland University.

    1. This is real life, not video games, so mental and legal problems DO matter, unfortunately. I LOVE Delonte's skill set, but I just think his time in Cleveland is up, and I will gladly have Boobie scoop up those available minutes.

    2. I think that a lot of people use the word handcuff because they hear other people use it and think by saying it that they are correct without using it in the proper context, so I will attempt to do so:

It wasn't that Lebron necessarily handcuffed them this free agency season. If you look around the entire league and look at the majority of deals given out, a lot of deals were gross overpayments to players who signed with shitty teams so they could make more money. The Cavs are not run like a shitty team. The Cavs simply weren't going to go out and sign someone this offseason just to sign someone because Lebron let. Gilbert, Scott, Grant and co. probably only targeted someone who would make sense both lineup wise and financially, and only a few players fit that mold, one of which being Matt Barnes. Barnes simply chose to go elsewhere. It happens, and I don't blame him for wanting to try to win a ring in LA.

What DID happen, however was in the past free agents who did fit the 2 criteria I listed above refuse to come to Cleveland because Lebron wouldn't guarantee his future here (Trevor Ariza is one such publicized one, I'm sure others exist without public knowledge).

Objectively I would be okay with Lebron refusing to commit to a future in Cleveland if he had not stated numerous times his desire to make Cleveland a championship city and it didn't affect the signing of other players. But since he did, then I have a real problem with the handcuffing that took place in the past, and if you still deny my claim of handcuffing, then I guess we'll just disagree on the matter.

Since you only said 1 scenario,

Get into the 1st round of the draft.

I think that would have eased the transition slightly. Get a young player to develop and let him do it with game experience. Sure, they are not going to get much in back end of the first round, but you can get someone with potential and give them 3 years or so to improve. I think they just delayed the whole rebuilding process by one year.

Example of players that I think would have been great for building for the future/giving the fans some excitement:
    Avery Bradley at 19
    Jordan Crawford at 27
    Daniel Orton at 29

Or someone like Hassan Whiteside in the 2nd

Having a different opinion doesn't make me a dumbass, sorry.

You already played that card, and I told you you were wrong.

The best part about this off-season is that SQ_Crazies will now have to cheer for the Miami Heat. I think that's my favorite part to come out of all this. Just absolute poetic justice.

There is no way I see Delonte a member of the Cavs next year and mostly because of the legal issues, so I agree with you.

I would now agree with you in the terms you say the Cavs were handcuffed. However, I don't think that's something that most franchises experience from time to time with expiring contracts.

Lastly, the Cavs did prove this offseason that they wouldn't just go out and throw money at someone, however past actions would say otherwise, and I don't mean necessarily in free agency, but also in trades (Jamison).

You claimed it wasn't true, but it is. Since you're having difficulty understanding this concept let me give you an example. I say LeBron James plays for the Heat now. You say its not true he plays for the Lakers. You saying its nopt true doesn't make it so, he still plays for the Heat, regardless of "what you choose to believe". (LMAO, btw that was a play on your words previously when you said "I refuse to believe" which I called you out for. I just went ahead and explained so you wouldnt have to ask later when you didn't get it."

I am not the dumb one in this situation here. Let me break it down for you since your inferior education level doesn't allow you understand. You are being called out for being wrong on NUMEROUS issues all over this thread. You are blantly ignoring the NBA cap rules, logic, and reality. Everyone is saying how wrong you are, and that you do not understand the NBA, its structure, its salary cap and the rules involved with that. You continue to ignore this and claim, "I refuse to to believe" aka being a dumbass. Nice FAIL. Just apologize and explain how your a moron, and you're like the little kid at the table, aka just wanting to be involved/included despite your inferior knowledge of the game.

I would say, though, that the Jamison trade could be an overpayment, but solely with the intention of keeping Lebron. Now that he's gone, I don't see the Cavs making any more stupid moves.

I will say this, I'll hold more judgment on the Jamison off until after at least the first 1/4 of the season. Don't forget, Jamison has one of the most unique skill sets in the league for a bigger player and that he's still capable of dropping 20 a game, imo.

If Jamison struggles mightily this year, then I would say it was a stupid move, but until then I'll reserve my judgment.

Did you read my post? It brings in young talent to build for the future. A young piece would have been valuable whether Lebron returned or not.

    1. Thank you for contributing such insight!
    2. Prove to me where I ignored the NBA cap rules, logic and reality. Proof. Just once.
    3. Prove to me (and others) that it took me 5 years to graduate from Ashland.

I could say something like, "Commander of Awesome is a registered sex offender", but just because I say it doesn't make it true. And by making a statement like that, one would expect some proof correct?

That's fair. I personally think it was a horrible move, but that's well documented.

I do think he will put up decent numbers this year, however you should expect that from a guy you are going $12 million to.
