Duck Dynasty, will Phil's interview doom the show?

"What's more, according to him, it's basically incomprehensible. "It seems to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man's anus," he explained. "That's just me. I'm just thinking, 'There's more there! She's got more to offer.' I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical."

Take a read at the article. Will it change their "dynasty"?

..or will people stand up and say that they are finally glad that someone "famous" has stood up and said what many believe but are afraid to be villified?

I am not afraid to say that I agree with him.

I would think a lot of things are incomprehensible to these people.

I'd probably have some sort of comment, but I'm not sure why I'd care about the opinion of some ignorant hilljack who's "famous" because his family grows long beards.

"Not fuckin' muh sista? Man, that's not logical man..."

Given the demographics that watch said show regularly, I doubt it hurts it one bit

Exactly what I was going to say. I'd say like 90% of the people who watch the show have that same opinion.

So its ok to have an opinion...but only if it supports gays. Got it.

You really have to spin hard to make this a big deal...which mainstream media will do. He is against gay marriage, doesn't understand why you would fuck in the ass when there's vagina out there, and in the end its not for him to judge because he believes were all judged in the end.
  • queencitybuckeye
Interesting that he has a lot to say about being deceitful, yet the "reality" show that has made him tens of millions of dollars is based on any number of things that just don't jive with the truth. Guess that's OK.

I also imagine, if it did hurt their show...the Robertson's won't care one bit. They existed before the show and they'll exist after the show.

They'll continue living their lives and making hunting calls, accessories, gear, etc.

They get some 14 million viewers every show; like mentioned previously, most probably aren't surprised Phil would speak up. But, GLAAD will be calling for sponsors and advertisers to pull their money (which is what was done in the original article/interview). It'll be up to A&E to respond somehow now.

What they made before, while a pretty nice living, is multiple orders of magnitude smaller than what they're doing from the show and the related merchandise. Yes, they would survive, but they don't want to throw this away. They absolutely care.

Edit: The fact that Mr. Robertson is already backpedaling indicates that he indeed cares.

I agree with bases_loaded. I havr no problem with people being gay. It's their life. But I think it's bullshit that nobody can make an opinion that they disagree with being gay. But wanna support it? Hellz yea, that's standing up for what you believe.

    It's so hypocritical.

Having the right to express an opinion doesn't mean it's free of consequence, positive or negative. Who is denying him the right to his opinion?

They made more than just a nice living. They were multi millionaires long before this show came around. I doubt they care one bit. Buck Commander and Duck Commander are multi million dollar companies, even before the show. They don't need this show. Does it help? Of course, but they were loaded before the show, and they'll be loaded after the show.

I think my contempt is more towards the notion painted in the OP that people need to hear a famous (or "famous") person have an opinion that may be controversial before they feel they can/should give their opinion. I mean, I disagree with DuckDude, but I don't care that his opinion is what it is. I just think the concept of a person being like, "I can say how I feel now that some reality TV 'star' said the same thing!" is hilariously pathetic.

Well that and hillbillies having fame and influence, but that's another story. I mean, you're the "star" of a reality show. No one should listen to you about anything. Ever.

Big difference between tens of millions and billions. They care, it's frankly ridiculous to suggest they wouldn't.

I can see it! We're about to segue back into the Urban Meyer: $10M vs. $4M -- IS THERE A DIFFERENCE??? conversation again.

Which was more interesting. And entertaining, as well.

Similar, except in this case, it's more the difference between $4M and $400M. Changes the equation completely.

Funny that there are some people who think a few million dollars, while substantial, is "fuck you" money. It isn't. A few hundred million is.

who gives a fuck that he doesn't support it. Joke of a PC world.

I'm sure the family really cares when they are raking in millions every year. Oh, and they are hardly famous because of their beards.

call them a bunch of incest hillbillies all you want, I'm sure they'll wipe your tears with 100s. The butt-hurt (no pun intended) on this thread is ridiculous. I wonder if you all boycott Chick-Fil-a LOL
  • Al Bundy
If preferring a vagina to a man's anus makes one a bad person, I guess I am a bad person too.

By butthurt, you're talking about the "OMG! People are mocking a celebrity's views so I'm hopping right on here to white-knight-defend them!!!!!" posts. Like yours. Right?
  • Fly4Fun
I watched a few episodes. It was an alright show but the excessively scripted nature of it was too heavy.

I agree with those who have said that his comments probably won't change the shows popularity.
  • dlazz
I don't think the interview would doom the show, I figured the shitty show would doom the show.

By my post, I mean get a life and quit judging so much just because somebody stated their view that they prefer a vagina rather than an anus.

I'm also amused that just because they live in Louisiana and have beards means that they are a bunch of incest rednecks. I don't know too many millionaire incest rednecks.

It's not like he came out and announced this either. This wasn't Kanye West at a benefit concert saying "bush hates black people". This is some douche reporter asking a question he knows will get headlines and Phil not being a bitch and answering it honestly.

It's a good show that doesn't use sex and violence or a husband on a coke binge to get ratings. He's right when he says this country is in a moral mess. Look how many people hate the show for being just some rich hicks who like God and have a scripted reality show.
  • DeyDurkie5
Rednecks that hate gays? Get out of here with that, it's not possible.
