Duck Dynasty, will Phil's interview doom the show?

No you wouldn't. I'm not stopping anyone from practicing their religion. Just talking about it at work. Unfortunately people don't understand that celebrities are held to a higher standard because everything they say to the media will be scrutinized.

My guess is, literally any company would fire someone for declaring on national television or in a newspaper or magazine that being gay is like fucking a horse.

If they want to be hypocritical, they should even be able to do that.

If they don't like this giuys comments no matter where they were made, they should be made to keep televising him for any reason at all if it's not what they want.

Their ratings ad revenue will determine if their decision was the right one.
Disagree all you want - but if I'm religious and you know I'm religious and then you get angry when I give an opinion based on my religious beliefs, don't be upset. People who are upset by this are morons because they're upset by what he said not denouncing where it came from. If you're catholic and like gays, maybe you should come out and say the bible is full of shit instead.

IMO this show jumped the shark around the time they took a Hawaiian vacation. This might spike ratings, for the short term, but they will become less and less relevant in 2014.

I am disagreeing all I want.

It's my opinion that A&E is angry he expressed his religious beliefs as much as A&E believe those particular clarification when made public will impact negatively their viewership. I don't think it's more complex than that.

Nothing that guy said would not be agreed upon by 98% of the male population. And he didn't say it to a customer, it was an interview.

Different people are attracted to different things, that is diversity. I'm not attracted to blonde women. I'm not attracted to middle-eastern women. My ideal woman is a brunette with large boobs, caucasian or asian - maybe hispanic. Does that make me a bigot? I have no idea what he said was so wrong. So he prefers vaginal intercourse - so does the majority of men!
It was the part where he called it a sin for someone to prefer something different than he does. Then he arguably compared people who had that different preference to adulterers and people who have sex with animals. Even if you think it wasn't a comparison it was at least a "yeah it's a sin to have this preference that's different than mine, just like bestiality, being a drunk, or being a terrorist". Does he go on to say "but sin is sin so let God sort it out"? Yes, but that doesn't give you a free pass to say whatever you want without people having a rebuttal or your employer thinking they don't want to associate with you.

You have to know that it wasn't the part of the interview where he said he likes vagina that people might take issue with. No one (well a vast majority of people) is going to care if someone says they find gay sex gross and stop there. People sometimes take issue if you then continue with how being gay is a sin or it is something that gets people sent to hell or any of the other common arguments you hear against it. If all you're saying is that you personally find what my boyfriend and I do in our bedroom to be gross then I'd stand by you and call whoever was arguing with you an asshole. You're allowed to have your own preferences. But I've almost never seen that statement made without other things that I can't agree with attached to it.

How thin skinned are you that you're actually offended? I was responding to the fact you agreed with like that then made a comment that contracted yourself.

This isn't like a friend being upset that he said something. It is a company making a business decision based on money. They're not gonna stick to their guns just so they're not seen as a hypocrite, that's something a person does. Companies make money decisions. Plain and simple. So if they hired a firm to do the research, find out public sentiment on if they fired him or didn't, weighed the financial risk in either direction and chose the one where they lost the least amount of money, why the fuck do you care?

Wasn't that a whole season ago...as in since then they've shattered ratings records?

Dude blew off BaBa, OR (far more likely) Dude thought (or someone else came up with the idea) "which gets us more pub, an interview with Barbara Walters, or blowing off Barbara Walters?".

This "simple people who don't give a fuck" is a brilliant, carefully crafted image. The elder Robinson strayed from the script.

Bingo. Those thinking it's more complex than this are doing nothing more than trying to magnifiy this as some sort of self serving ideological statement.

Not sure what contracting yourself means, but if you meant contradicted, I'm pretty sure I didn't.

Phil is human, not perfect, just like many of you and I who are Christians. Those of us that are believer in Jesus Christ as our Savior have been judge, persecuted and ridiculed for centuries. What media group has come to the aid of Christians being murdered, raped and imprisoned in today world?

Sorry Gays / Lesbians you don’t have the market on being ridiculed, persecuted and judgment.

Phil said it and many agree with it and now Gays / Lesbians have to get over the fact that it’s truthful.

Hey! I haven’t seen nor heard of any Gay or Lesbian Group denouncing Islam .. why is that?

What does suspending him matter at this point? People will associate this show with the guy who said gays like to bang animals. I think it's a gross overreaction to a belief they knew he had.

Yes, and all I am saying is this show is most likely entering it last season.

"It was the part where he called it a sin for someone to prefer something different than he does."

Uh, ok. My parents do not drink alcohol. That is their choice and I respect it. If we are out to dinner and my wife and I decide to have a bottle of wine my parents TOLERATE it, we don't expect them to pay for it and that is that. It is tolerance.

At my parents home we do not drink any type of alcohol, no beer, no wine, whatever. Their house, their rules, and if they think drinking is a sin they shouldn't ACCEPT it in their home. We respect that. There is no need for acceptance.

It's an outward act that shows the viewership they won't permit such public displays. It may not necessarily pay off with this show's ratings but with the willingness of people to tune in for any show at all on the station.

Not acting would be more of a statement than what they chose to do.

So someone was trying to have gay sex or fuck a horse in Phil's home and he had to speak out about it?

I'm confused to what your point is.

My point is there will always be people that aren't accepting of you or your behavior, fair or not. For centuries this has been an issue - but now gay people are special and expect acceptance from everyone?

Belly, gay groups disagree with Islam all the time. Literally all the time. You likely don't hear or see any of that because you're in the United States where there's only a tiny fraction of the population that is Islamic and Canton isn't even a particularly diverse area of the country.

If two groups say things you disagree with but one group has 1000 members and the other has 1 it makes sense to spend your time having a dialogue with the larger group.

    Who says I'm special?

You don't think if someone compared Christians or black people or another sizeable group to bestiality that there would be a pushback?

How do you jump to the idea that I think I'm special?

Also, are your parents campaigning to make it illegal for you to drink alcohol? Because that's been the bigger issue. If it were simply that people said they find being gay to be gross then I'd think they were a bit insensitive but whatever, it's their opinion. Once they start trying to make laws regarding that opinion or otherwise influencing other people is when I tend to be a little bothered.
