Duck Dynasty, will Phil's interview doom the show?

  • Tiernan
I like the show but the crazy Christian fundamentalism is a bit bothersome. But I'm smart enough to only care about what I find to be right and wrong. Don't give a damn what bible beaters think but I like to laugh at them.

Apparently you haven't been keeping up on current events - if you don't accept, not just tolerate, but accept gays now it is akin to being KKK or worse. Whatever happened to being tolerant and allowing people to live their lives privately, and under the current state of affairs if you don't accept the lifestyle you are a bigot even though you are tolerant? There is a huge difference between tolerance and acceptance - South Park understands that. The gay lobby might overshoot their argument on this. Or if I'm wrong in 10 years or so unless you aren't homosexual yourself, you are homophobic. It is ridiculous. The powerful argument that they should be afforded their privacy and shouldn't be persecuted is going to go be if they expect special rights and everyone to accept what they do in a personal and private matter. The bedroom is private, for heterosexuals, homosexuals and bisexuals.

I was told that the way you live life after being a millionaire doesn't change much if you make more than what you actually need. So having tens of millions is plenty, they don't need billions. The extra money wouldn't do them any good anyway. I'll start researching home prices in W. Monroe.

I'm very sure. The idea that some of the posters here say, in effect, "if I had a few million banked, I'd do what I want and say what I want and say GFY to anyone I want". Not if your merchandise was in every retail store in the country you wouldn't. No one would.
but to imply that the business has more influence on their decisions then their beliefs

Not sure why you included this in a post where you quoted me, as I implied no such thing.

Thanks for telling me this. I'm not sure why you're responding to me on this, unless you're implying I said something remotely like you posted here. I did not.

No, LJ said it directly, you only inferred.

I implied (correct usage) nothing of the sort. You inferred incorrectly.

    Right.

    No I didn't

I'll try one more time. Are the following sentences remotely the same?

There is little difference in terms of lifestyle between an annual income of $4 million and $10 million.

Once one has accumulated a few million dollars, there's no point in making any more.

By the way, Duck Commander calls alone (not including Buck Commander or other merch.) Had been grossing in the $15-20 million per year range for years before Duck Dynasty ever aired. Duck Commander has been one of the top brands of waterfowl calls for probably 20 years. I think their first TV show was in the early 90's
  • LJ
Their 2013 gross projection on duck calls alone was $45 million

    I was agreeing with you.

Back on topic, I don't know why anyone would think he would have a different view. How many people deeply rooted in religion have a different perspective? Not many.

No one would? Phil Robertson alone proves that wrong. He does indeed say what he wants. He doesn't hide his opinion just because his merchandise is in every retail store in the country. This isn't the first time he's made "controversial" comments.

Yea, there are definitely people that do this, and Robertson is one of them. Dude blew off Barbara Walters to go duck hunting. He could care less about fame, and this won't hurt their bottom dollar at all.

Phil got fired lol. Freedom of speech only if you agree with the right side.

What I saw said he got suspended from the show, which means they'll cut him out of the first few episodes of Season 4, and all this will be long forgotten when he comes back.

I get the feeling that this won't go over well for A&E the way this family stands behind their beliefs and each other.

    I agree with this.

Come on, this guy is from rural Louisiana, do people expect him to be different? I agree with MB, gays want more than you just having to go halfway, and no one should expect more

Before the show started, all I could find was a net income/profit of @$2M a year. Actually more than a few years, and might even have been before Willie took over. $2M is still pretty darn good for Dad and 3 sons and a few other employees. But if they were grossing $15-$20M I would guess profits were more like $6M a year.

Anyway, Phil has been suspended...ironically, he was talking about leaving the show before this past season even started. I bet he laughed when they told him he was suspended.

gosh a ruddies there is the other part of his interview where he raves on how happy blacks were back in the good old days of Jim Crow. I bet if you looked in the back of his closet you could find a white hood.

    Seriously? This retard is back?

I will be glad to explain to you what Jim Crow and white hoods refer to you, since you obviously do not understand.
