Atlantic Coast Conference Thread

Carolina is pulling their Jekyll and Hyde routine again, trailing Texas 53-42 at halftime. Playing zero defense, putting together a rebounding performance that is embarrassingly bad, and of course, missing damn near every free throw they take. To add to the mess, Joel James left the game in the first minute with what looked like a pretty serious knee injury.

Heels better wake up or they're gonna follow up the great win last weekend with yet another loss.

It's sort of obvious at this point that the mental preparation just isn't there for the Tar Heels unless facing a big-time opponent. It looks like they're just going through the motions expecting to win because North Carolina. That in turn has allowed under-the-radar teams whom everyone pretty much expects UNC to roll to surprise the Heels with left hooks at the start and increasingly build enough confidence to win.

While UNC will probably net a victory tonight, it's definitely a problem right now for Roy, and something of a pattern in recent seasons. Unfortunately, I know which team will show up against Duke.

If Kennedy Meeks would lose 25 pounds, he would be unstoppable.

16-34 from the FT line...2-12 in the 2nd half so far.

    Just pisses me off.

McAdoo is such a bad shooter.

Who the fuck is Jevan Felix? Seriously?

I guess you deserve to lose when you miss 20+ free throws though.
  • ironman02
Unbelievable that Carolina even had a chance to win that game. They'll continue to lose like this until they start rebounding and shooting a respectable percentage from the free throw line.

    Ironman92,

Thanks for the laugh. I need to stop watching sports though. So ticked off right now. I don't even know how it's possible to shoot 24-47 from the free throw line.

If this team could shoot 70% from the line, they'd be 10-0. Even 60% might work at this point.

It makes you wonder how much they worked on them going up through the ranks. 47 free throws? We're the refs calling everything or was Carolina just good enough to get by them but not finish? I bet the UT boards are not happy with UNC shooting 47 but very happy they missed 23.

BTW.....at first glance I was guessing Tevan was from East Jackson.

Texas shot 33 free throws themselves. With the new rule changes, college basketball has become a free throw shooting contest, which obviously doesn't bode well for Carolina.

My buddy Jevan was 1-10 from the field before scoring 8 consecutive points near the end of the game like he was Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant in the clutch. It was absurd, but not as absurd as the Carolina rebounding and free throw shooting performance.

If what I'm being told is true, expect an announcement about PJ Hairston soon, maybe even tomorrow.

I'm still holding out hope, but I'm fairly certain that he's done for the year, which basically means he has played his last game for Carolina since it's highly unlikely that he would return for his senior season.

    Quality ACC-related post.

PJ is done. It appears it was Carolina's choice as they are not seeking reinstatement from the NCAA.

Pisses me off, but he made his bed. It's a huge loss for the rest of the season, but now the team can finally move on. And I believe they will. And I expect this team to play more focused from here on out.

Why would you think he was from East Jackson? LOL

Seems like UNC knew through working with the NCAA throughout the entire process that even if they applied for reinstatement, it wouldn't be granted. It's really a shame that things ended up like this, but PJ should've made better decisions.

I get the feeling that Roy isn't happy with the administration or the NCAA, but also understands the reasoning behind this decision. The team will probably be okay without him, and should definitely be more focused going forward. I really enjoyed watching PJ play, and he'll always be part of the Carolina family, but I'm sure he'll regret the circumstances that led up to this for the rest of his life.

Watching Roy's presser today. He wad very, very down. Looked beyond tired. It was hard to watch.

He has definitely dealt with a lot of issues the last few years on and off the court, and with his health. It would be nice if things would go smoothly for a while.

UNC made the right call. P.J. Hairston has been nothing but a cancer. Aside from the obvious reasons of winning, why Roy even wanted him around the team after all he put it through is beyond me.
