Purdue played really tough in their game against OK State, and since they're playing at Mackey, I give the Boilermakers a shot against Boston College. BC has some tremendous talent -- Ryan Anderson, Olivier Hanlan, Eddie Odio -- but they are terrible as a team.Laley23;1547649 wrote:Purdue is poised to finish 12th in the B1G. I dont even know who they are playing, but they will lose. -
ironman02Carolina by 10+ for most of the first half, and now they're tied with about a minute left in the half. Probably blew their opportunity to steal a win in East Lansing, but they're hanging in there.

Yeah they are awful, Toledo is really good, but losing at home to them told me what I need to know.reclegend22;1547865 wrote:Purdue played really tough in their game against OK State, and since they're playing at Mackey, I give the Boilermakers a shot against Boston College. Purdue is bad also, but my post was just a dig at them lol. They nearly finished last in Puerto Rico I think...needing a 16 point comeback to beat Siena... -
Laley23Also, did you watch the OKST game? They got blown the fuck out. Down nearly 30 in the first half lol. They made a garbage time comeback to make the game look respectable.

Was the whole second half garbage time? Because they were within 4 with 3 minutes left.Laley23;1547997 wrote:Also, did you watch the OKST game? They got blown the fuck out. Down nearly 30 in the first half lol. They made a garbage time comeback to make the game look respectable. -

This sums up what I saw in the Purdue-OK State game.Mulva;1548002 wrote:Was the whole second half garbage time? Because they were within 4 with 3 minutes left.
Also, Purdue up about 20 on Boston College in the second half right now... -
Laley23
Lol, I admittedly turned it of at half when ok st was up 20. Didn't realize they got it that close.Mulva;1548002 wrote:Was the whole second half garbage time? Because they were within 4 with 3 minutes left. -
wildcats20There is one reason Carolina won this game: They out Sparty'd, Sparty.
It was that simple. Bilas said it a few minutes ago. Heels got every loose ball, every 50/50 ball and they dominated the glass. -
Ironman92This Carolina team...I 02 said Duke will beat them 2 times and might get 3 in the ACCT.....I told him that UNC will win 1 or the regular season matchups.

Glad to see the effort and hustle because it wasn't really there against Belmont or UAB.wildcats20;1548037 wrote:There is one reason Carolina won this game: They out Sparty'd, Sparty.

Just can't believe this...
Lose to Belmont
Beat Louisville
Lose to UAB
Beat MSU on the road
Just gotta start playing consistent basketball. The talent is there, even without PJ and LMac. -
wildcats20Also, Roy's jacket swag is on 100.

Ironman92"If we compete like that all the time, I'd be a lot better coach"
lol, well said Roy -

Sounds like a bracket buster either way.ironman02;1548043 wrote:Glad to see the effort and hustle because it wasn't really there against Belmont or UAB.

Classic Roy.: "We were so bad against UAB I didn't know if we'd get beat by 1,000." -

Yeah. I don't want to hear anyone say anything about UNC winning because of Michigan State playing poorly. Bullshit. Michigan State lost because UNC outworked and outplayed their ass on their own floor.wildcats20;1548037 wrote:There is one reason Carolina won this game: They out Sparty'd, Sparty.

I want to add one caveat, however, before I start sounding like a Carolina homer. During their NIT season of 2009-10, North Carolina beat a ranked Michigan State squad by 7 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge and then played within two of top-five ranked UK in the following game. So, there's still a chance for a happy ending this season -
ironman02Shut your mouth, rec! Just shut it!!

Laley23I'm just shocked at how many 3s MSU is taking this year. Did they have 30+ today??
I mean, as I said in another thread, when Harris is unable to do anything but shoot, that's kind of what you get. But still, they need to drive and pound it into Payne. -

Payne offensively isn't the problem, but defensively they were abused in the paint last night. Points in the paint was according to the box score 44-28, and they won by 14Laley23;1548055 wrote:I'm just shocked at how many 3s MSU is taking this year. Did they have 30+ today??

ironman02Haven't had much of a chance to post since I got back, but the Carolina/UK game was definitely the best sports atmosphere I have ever seen in person. It was crazy to see thousands of students standing outside in the pouring rain trying to get into the Smith Center. The crowd of 22,000 strong was into the game from well before tip-off right up until the end, and the madness that ensued after Brice Johnson's dunk on the lob pass from Marcus Paige was just awesome. Many Carolina fans have been saying that was the loudest the Dean Dome has been since Marvin Williams' put back against Duke in 2005, and it literally gave me chills to be a part of that.
I hadn't been to Chapel Hill in years and it felt great to be back there. The University of North Carolina campus is absolutely beautiful, even in the winter, and Chapel Hill is the quintessential college town. I got the chance to eat at Top of the Hill Restaurant, which was awesome, and also had a chicken and cheddar biscuit at TimeOut. If you're ever in Chapel Hill, you must eat at both of those places.
The Carolina basketabll museum is an absolutely amazing experience for a Tar Heel fan. Seeing the history behind one of the best college basketball programs in the country was an experience that I'll never forget. Dean Smith, Michael Jordan, Tyler Hansbrough, and many, many more great players and coaches make the Carolina Family something very special. National championship trophies, ACC championship trophies, videos of the greatest moments in Carolina basketball history, and tributes to the great players and teams that have contributed to the tradition and mystique of UNC...it's all there, and it's spectacular.
The Heels got a huge win over Kentucky, which means they now have defeated the three teams ranked #1, #2, and #3 in the pre-season polls. Carolina is the only team in the country to have three wins over ranked opponents, and they have done that without their top two shooting guards, one of which is most likely their best overall player. This team is very vulnerable at times, which is why they lost to Belmont and at UAB, but when they're playing well, they can play with any team in the country. It'll be important for them to beat Texas tomorrow night and hopefully finish out the OOC portion of the schedule at 11-2 in a couple weeks. If they can do that, build more momentum heading into ACC play, and hopefully get some guys back, they could be a very dangerous team by the end of the season. It seems as though they can lose to anyone, but possibly beat anyone...hopefully they'll be a little more consistent going forward. -
ironman02Leslie McDonald has been cleared to play for Carolina after serving a 9-game suspension.
UNC has not applied for reinstatement for Hairston at this point, so I'm sure his suspension will be substantially longer, and there still appears to be a good chance that he will not return at all. -
reclegend22Nice recap of your experience, ironman. Jealous that you made it down there for such a big game. Dying to find the time to make it to Durham again, but doubt I'll ever be able to see a game there against a school like Kentucky or another all-time program. (No, not because K is afraid to schedule one, but because Cameron's size really limits the possibilities for people not willing to pay thousands for a game.) I imagine that's something you can cross off your bucket list.
Also, as I've said here before, agreed that Top of the Hill is a really great restaurant/bar. A must-have stop in the area, especially in the summer with the outdoor seating overlooking Franklin Street below.
As long as he is keeping his chair strong, to use one of my all-time favorite sports metaphors.ironman02 wrote:UNC has not applied for reinstatement for Hairston at this point, so I'm sure his suspension will be substantially longer, and there still appears to be a good chance that he will not return at all. -
reclegend22Texas lays 53 on North Carolina in the first 20 minutes at the Dean Dome. Up 11 on the Heels.
UNC's up-and-down play this season is baffling. It's just so extreme one way or the other. On the one hand, the Heels have beaten Louisville, Michigan State and Kentucky. On the other, they've lost to Belmont and Alabama-Birmingham as well as struggled with Richmond and are losing tonight by double-figures at home to a Texas club that, despite a shiny record, hasn't played anyone and has struggled against some bad teams.
