Let me preface this..I am a K fan. Have heard him speak, been watching Duke for many a year. That being said, on the sideline, the guy is one of the most foul mouth coaches of all time. He throws out the F-Bomb more than any other coach I have seen. And, he gets away with it almost always. He doesn't have the same intimidating demeanor as Knight...but he intimidates the refs very similar and gets away with it more than any other coach.reclegend22;1583480 wrote:Coach K is no worse than most other coaches in the country with regard to trying to win the favor of officials by advocating for his team.
There's a big difference between that and constant bitching and moaning in press conferences afterward, which K does not do, at least anywhere near to the extent that Boehiem does. Also, K would never run around the court like a mad man.
BTW, the call against FAIR should have been a NO CALL imo. -

Hood was clearly hit on the arm and should have shot two. It wasn't called, and Duke moved on. Syracuse will have to do the same. -
vball10setDuke basketball=Notre Dame football=Yankees baseball. You either love 'em or hate 'em, there's no middle ground.

I don't disagree with that. And as a great admirer of Bobby Knight, I've always loved K for the passion he demonstrates.centralbucksfan;1583595 wrote:Let me preface this..I am a K fan. Two things, however, that you do not see from K: Wildly erratic behavior (i.e. running around the court in a state of untamed frenzy) and blame-casting/finger-pointing in press conferences after the game to explain a defeat. Jim Boeheim exhibited both of these behaviors last night and consistently demonstrates the latter.
It's just embarrassing when a coach refuses to own responsibility for a loss. In the presser afterward, when asked whether he cost his team the game, Boeheim responded no, that the game was already decided after the charge call (ignoring that his team was only down two at the time and Duke was not shooting free throws since it was a player-control foul). Boeheim gave up on his team. He quit. That's who he is. -

Did the Asbury Park Press receive an investigative journalism award for that bombshell exclusive with the obscure Blue Devils transfer whom no one here has ever heard of?Prescott;1583588 wrote:It looks like I was the last person to show up for this party..........................................................................................
Couple of things..................If the call on Fair was a charge then the call on Parker's drive to the basket was also a charge.........................I would have called a N0-CALL on Fair's drive to the basket...................................................................But, it is duke and it is CIS. ..........................................................."Former Duke player Andre Sweet told the Asbury Park Press in 2003 that he's often asked whether Duke gets all the calls. 'I'm like, of course. It's Duke.' he said. 'It's Mike Krzyzewski. The refs were afraid of him. He could get you calls that no one else could get. That's part of playing for Duke. You know that going in.'"
Sweet, as an fyi, left Duke over academic issues and a disagreement with the coaching staff over how good he was. Sweet being on the side of the argument that he was good, and the Duke staff on the side that he was not.
Once again, though, for everyone reading: All of the elite teams -- ALL OF THEM -- get the benefit of the doubt on calls at home. Where was the outcry from everyone here over the Rodney Hood no-call at Syracuse?? Take that same play and reverse the roles in a game in Cameron, with Syracuse not getting that call, and watch the fire stoke. -

The above might be true, but what happened to Maryland does not happen everywhere..................................................................................................reclegend22;1583626 wrote:

The ACC has acknowledged an officiating error during the second half of No. 8 Duke’s 69-67 win over Maryland on Saturday.
An ACC official provided the Washington Post with a statement saying that Duke was incorrectly given possession after back-to-back held balls. The first came with 16:58 left in the game, which correctly gave the ball to Duke. But the official possession arrow was never changed, and with 6:39 left, the ensuing held ball was also given to the Blue Devils.
Amile Jefferson would score on that possession, which tied the game at 56 at the time.
What’s interesting is that at the time of the jump ball, ESPN’s broadcast actually had the possession arrow correct:
According to Testudo Times, the broadcast crew actually said “Maryland ball. On the possession arrow the Terps will have it” when the call was made.
Why is this a big deal?
Well, we all remember the end of this game, right? Charles Mitchell’s jump hook in the final seconds hung on the rim before falling off. If Maryland correctly gets the ball on this possession and Jefferson doesn’t score, they’d have won, right?
Frankly, it’s not that simple, and even the craziest crazy Terps fan should be able to acknowledge it.
But it makes the end of the rivalry just that much more fitting, doesn’t it?
Duke beats Maryland on a favorable call from the refs. -

reclegend22Syracuse survived a last-second 3-point attempt from Maryland tonight to avoid a third straight defeat. The Orange are reeling right now and have been for about three weeks (in reality, they could easily have five or six losses already). If Syracuse plays like that in Charlottesville on Saturday then Virginia will win going away. Cavs with 11 straight victories and enormous momentum.
Syracuse just flat-out struggles to score. -
Heretic
Possibly, but at least they remembered to have this Duke-antiDuke argument on an ACC thread, as opposed to a B1G one, so whatevs!Ironman92;1583667 wrote:Is this JJ Huddle from 10 years ago? -
wildcats20Carolina and State go to OT and it takes a full court driving lay in for Marcus Paige to get the win.
Paige finished with 35 and TJ Warren finished with 36. Carolina was down 11 at one point and battled back for their 10th straight win. -
reclegend22UNC at N.C. State was a great game tonight (although a pretty anticlimactic finish). Tar Heels win in OT on a last-second drive by Marcus Paige. Tough loss for the Pack. That's 10 wins in a row for Carolina.
Time for Mark Gottfried's wife to start getting nervous. -
ironman02NC State just got everything they deserved and more. Absolutely love that Marcus Paige ripped their hearts out.
Whose State? It's the Tar Heel State! -
swamisezLol, pulling out the Our State quote. I think Duke football solved that question this fall.
Currently, UVA and Syracuse are battling at JPJ. Gonna be interesting to see if UVA can hit enough shots to win. Will be shocked if they do. If Hoos manage to get a W, I hope students rush floor. First ACC regular season title since ???? Ralph Sampson days?? -
reclegend22Virginia taking Syracuse down another peg today in Charlottesville. Cavs up 62-49 in the final couple of minutes. People think teams like Virginia and Cincinnati have trouble scoring, but look at Syracuse the past month. Offensively, the Orange are absolutely average.
I stand firm behind my belief that Virginia is the best team in the ACC as of right now, with Duke and UNC a close second and third. -
reclegend22Virginia achieves the ACC regular-season best record award outright, with a 75-56 thrashing of Jim Boeheim. I am drunk off delight that Boeheim was deprived of the honor. Hopefully the ACC Tournament follows a similar script.
-
ironman02Carolina survived a pretty awful second half tonight to beat Notre Dame, 63-61. The Heels are now 23-7, 13-4 ACC and have won 12 games in a row leading up the regular season finale at Duke. When this team was 11-7, or 0-3 in the ACC, I never dreamed that they would put together a turnaround like this. Roy Williams and his staff have done a phenomenal job, and the players have really bought in after getting over the PJ Hairston saga. Hoping for the sweep on Saturday, but it'll be very tough to go into Cameron and get a W.

Ironman92Beat Duke....then beat Cuse and UVA in the ACCT and get them a 1 seed if Kansas loses again

I was thinking about this earlier today.Ironman92;1586757 wrote:Beat Duke....then beat Cuse and UVA in the ACCT and get them a 1 seed if Kansas loses again
Win tonight and then win out. It is a distinct possibility, but I just don't think a 1 is in their reach. A 2 is the ceiling, IMO. But you never know. -
Ironman92Lunardi has Kansas at 1.....if that's the case I think UVA, Duke, Cuse and UNC could sneak that final #1 if Kansas loses again, and maybe Nova as well.

I was reading Forde's new column on Yahoo today where he was talking about how Syracuse's slump had opened up a #1 for the taking. He mentioned both UVA and Duke as possibilities, but not North Carolina. He had Kansas as the first choice at the moment, with Wisconsin being the other team to look at as a possibility due to how they've been essentially unbeatable outside of that one horrible stretch where they got all their losses.Ironman92;1586761 wrote:Lunardi has Kansas at 1.....if that's the case I think UVA, Duke, Cuse and UNC could sneak that final #1 if Kansas loses again, and maybe Nova as well. -
reclegend22Well, Syracuse might not have to worry about that No. 1 seed after all. Orange trail by eight at the half against Georgia Tech. In the Carrier Dome.
Again, Syracuse is not one of the top three teams in the ACC. They've just been flat-out scraping by the past month and a half. If they pull this one out tonight and still win out, I still believe the overall body of work of 31-3 and ACC champ will be enough to get a one seed, but they could lose to a 16. This team is nowhere near as good as its record. It's not even close. -
wildcats20That'll do it. Tech pulls the upset in the dome.
