Atlantic Coast Conference Thread

Either way Boeheim was a moron for reacting like that. He knew there was only possible outcome.

Oh absolutely. Just like Bilas has been saying, the bad call didn't end the game; he did.
  • Mulva
I agree with Bilas. That call was much closer than the blown non-call on Hood the last match up.
  • GOONx19
I thought it was a bad call live, but it was closer in slo-mo. It would've been a huge call either way it went, but there was enough contact that it had to be a foul.
  • friendfromlowry
Especially with the way Duke was shooting free throws, Syracuse could have very easily had the ball back down 2-3 points.
  • wildcats20
The way that play has been called ALL year has been a block. But now all of a sudden it's a charge. It was a bad call. There is NO way anyone can say it wasn't.

Duke-Syracuse is quickly turning into a titanic rivalry, much in the same way that Duke-Maryland was in the early 2000s. Big win tonight for the Blue Devils. Parker was great in the second half, going 3-of-3 from downtown while finishing with 19 and 10 for his ACC-leading 11th double-double this season.

As for the final play, it was very close, but Hood was moving a bit. Either way, for Jim Boehiem to say that the play decided the game, as he did in his presser, is just ridiculous. He lost the game for his team by running around the court like an unhinged rodeo clown. I can't think of another coach in basketball, beyond Mike Davis, who would act like that. That's Jim Boeheim.

Yeah, I read that he said that. Awful.

Also he made some comment about how they play @Maryland on Monday and they had today off. Something like "I guess that's how they do it down here."

I watched a good portion of the presser, and he never once apologized or made any sort of indication acknowledging that he let his team down in any way. He's possibly the most pompous and petulant coach in the country. A real jerk.

I didn't see this. Boehiem constantly makes it known that he is a Big East guy and that in his mind the ACC does not live up to that standard. I hope the rest of the conference has taken note and does not let that asshole have the privilege of cutting down the nets in Greensboro.
  • wildcats20
Maybe he didn't actually make that comment. It might have been a side comment to someone. I read it in twitter. Idk.

wildcats....are you ecstatic your team is playing very well and won big or are you ticked that Duke won?
  • wildcats20
@GaryParrishCBS: Syracuse plays Maryland on Monday.โ€And Maryland is off today, which is interesting. I guess they do stuff like that down here.โ€ โ€” Boeheim
  • reclegend22
He probably did. It sounds like something Boeheim would say. This is after all the man who called for the NCAA to expand the tournament to like 200 teams a few years ago after his team missed the tournament with 14 or 15 losses. The guy is a worse than a baby. I mean, he protests fucking everything. He never accepts defeat in a gracious manner. He's the worst.

Says a Duke fan. (Coach K)

All I can say is welcome to the conference, bitch.

Coach K is no worse than most other coaches in the country with regard to trying to win the favor of officials by advocating for his team.

There's a big difference between that and constant bitching and moaning in press conferences afterward, which K does not do, at least anywhere near to the extent that Boehiem does. Also, K would never run around the court like a mad man.

Getting fucked by the refs at Cameron is an ACC rite of passage as well, it's like baptism by fire this weekend for him

That's life on the road in almost any conference. It's magnified at Cameron because of the amount of people across the country who hate Duke. The officiating at North Carolina or Kentucky or Syracuse, for that matter, is no different. Payback is a bitch, Jim.

    I laughed.

In all seriousness, though, while he gets after the officiating in-game, as any coach does (people just make a bigger deal out of him because he coaches the most loathed team in college basketball), K is actually a very gracious loser. You would never hear the petulant ramblings of Jim Boehiem out of him in a presser after a game. He might call out something he didn't agree with here or there, like any coach, but there actually are very few coaches in the country who are as bad-tempered and almost childish as Boeheim when it comes to dealing with defeat.

You can keep saying the "because it's duke" comment all you want rec. Point is, it was a blown call. And being at CIS, it doesn't help their reputation.

Again, what happens in Cameron is no different than what happens in Rupp, the Dean Smith Center, the Carrier Dome or Allen Fieldhouse. That's all there is to it. But yes, since Duke is the most hated team in the country of course a bigger deal is going to be made out of it. That's just reality. But all the elite teams -- all of them -- get the calls at home. Plain and simple.

The call tonight was no worse or less significant than the no-call on Rodney Hood's dunk attempt at the end of the first Duke-Syracuse game. Hood was clearly hit on the arm and should have shot two. It wasn't called, and Duke moved on. Syracuse will have to do the same.

Bingo!!! The thing is you get screwed coming into the conference(Cuse) and you get screwed more blatantly going out of the conference.(Maryland)

Glad you could make the party.

It looks like I was the last person to show up for this party..........................................................................................

Couple of things..................If the call on Fair was a charge then the call on Parker's drive to the basket was also a charge.........................I would have called a N0-CALL on Fair's drive to the basket...................................................................But, it is duke and it is CIS. ..........................................................."Former Duke player Andre Sweet told the Asbury Park Press in 2003 that he's often asked whether Duke gets all the calls. 'I'm like, of course. It's Duke.' he said. 'It's Mike Krzyzewski. The refs were afraid of him. He could get you calls that no one else could get. That's part of playing for Duke. You know that going in.'"
