2013 recruiting chatter
-
Azubuike24Eh. We'll see. Not sold on Anderson or Parker being great. Still major question marks with Josh Smith. They also have the Wear twins, Tyler Lamb and Larry Drew (although that's probably a negative).
They are preseason top 5-15 from numerous rankings. They will go as far as Shabazz takes them. He's capable of a Durant-like impact, but that's a lot of pressure. Tough to say you are confident in Howland's ability to bring a team together, which is critical with a team of 4 returning contributors, 3 5-star recruits and a transfer PG with some previous issues. -
Laley23They are loaded on paper. But AZ said, it's on Howland to bring together. I have my doubts, which is why I think he is canned after the tourney next year. They have tr talent to be a top 10 team and a 2/3 seed, but I doubt they get it. OOC axhedule will go along way, as Pac-12 still sucks.

When Howland has had some talent, he has usually done pretty well. AZ for whatever reason has a hard on for Howland. Like I have mentioned, you can't discount 3 final fours in a row. And it wasn't like those happened that long ago. Overall, except for a few years, Howland has done pretty well.Laley23;1151462 wrote:They are loaded on paper. Azubuike24Say what you will. He has preseason expectations this year. He's recruited well despite his transgressions. Final Four or bust. He's bringing in the #2 recruiting class with the #1 overall player. CBB just lost a TON of talent, and IMO will be "down" next year compared to this year.
Lets re-visit this in 11 months and see what Howland does with actual expectations. If he succeeds, I'll be the first to give him props. I just have a feeling they will disappoint.
That's all. We can disagree. -
ironman02Troy Williams is deciding between Carolina and Kentucky tomorrow afternoon/evening.
-
Azubuike24Not sure it's much of a decision. I think this one is conceded to UNC. While I don't see it remaining #1, it would give Carolina a commanding lead in the 2013 class thus far.

Azubuike24Will be Kentucky or Carolina with the #1 class. Taking anyone else would be bucking serious odds.

Laley23Liars about him announcing today.
-
Azubuike24He was set to, but postponed...

I know. I was being a pretentious dick.Azubuike24;1158802 wrote:He was set to, but postponed...
Sorry, the sarcasm obviously wasnt obvious lol. -
ironman02I'm pretty sure it was gonna be Carolina, as Azubuike said. Now, I highly doubt he ends up in Chapel Hill. Just a weird deal.

I got that now, but you posted it before I had even read he cancelled. Guess I was a bit late.Laley23;1158815 wrote:I know. I was being a pretentious ****.

I can see him not going to UK or UNC. Heck, not even sure it's verified he has a UK offer...ironman02;1158909 wrote:I'm pretty sure it was gonna be Carolina, as Azubuike said. Now, I highly doubt he ends up in Chapel Hill. Just a weird deal. -
ironman02Haven't read anything tonight that explains why the announcement was postponed. Troy said something about "just not feeling right" today. I really have no idea what will happen. A lot of Carolina and UK fans have recently been pretty hard on Troy because of his struggles so far in the AAU season. He hasn't been shooting the ball that well, but he never really has been a "great" shooter. He's a heck a defender, rebounder, and just a high-energy guy. Whichever team ends up with him will be lucky to have him.
Carolina did recently offer 2013 big Austin Nichols. Nichols has received a few impressive offers recently, and seems to be rising up the rankings. He's a 6'8" PF out of Memphis. Roy has been going hard after Julius Randle for the last two years, and he already has Isaiah Hicks committed. Randle is almost definitely one-and-done, and Hicks may not be in college much longer than that either, so extending an offer to a big man that is most likely a 3-4 year players seems like a smart move. -
ironman02Anyone know the lastest on Wiggins and Vonleh? Are they still considering reclassifying from 2014 to 2013?
-
Azubuike24I hope on Wiggins. Dude is a beast. Better than MKG heading into his Junior year...and that's saying A LOT.
-
ironman02In addition to the recent offer to Austin Nichols, Carolina has also officially extended an offer to 2013 big man Kennedy Meeks. It is believed that it's a "first come, first serve" type of deal between Nichols and Meeks. Both are 3 or 4 year players, which is something Carolina will need even if they do happen to land guys like Randle and Vonleh. Speaking of Vonleh, he now has an official offer from Carolina as well. Roy is definitely casting a wide net for big men right now.

centralbucksfanNCAA possibly investigating UK recruit Noel
http://www.cnnsi.com/2012/basketball/ncaa/05/09/kentucky.noel.ncaa.ap/index.html?sct=cb_t2_a11 -
Azubuike24This is my favorite part: "didn't ask me any investigative-type questions."
My other favorite part is when he mentions how Noel is expected to graduate next week, on-time.
Who were the writers who reported this story? Peter Thamel? Nah, that's gotta be my favorite part.
If Noel wasn't going to UK or any high profile school, the NCAA wouldn't be wasting dollars. There isn't anyone at UK who has posted anything with possible knowledge on the inside who has any concerns over him being eligible. If anything, it would be a "pay it back, miss a game or two and then play." Happens dozens of times with recruits every year.
Thanks for posting! Breaking news! -

ironman02So, apparently Troy Williams is now considering Florida and Georgetown, and possibly Villanova and Louisville. It's no longer just between Carolina and UK. I have absolutely no clue what's going on here, but it looks like it will be a while until he makes a decision.

The story is bothersome. This type of investigation is going on all over the country. It does every year. The exact same scenario. Which one has an article written and published?SportsAndLady;1167263 wrote:Defensive much? lol -
Azubuike24Just got a text from a friend about this.
He claims to be an OSU fan.
I told him this is nothing compared to Laquinton Ross (which turned out to be, again, nothing really). His response?
"Who is Laquinton Ross?"
I don't have an issue with anyone reading this thread. We follow the sport. It's the douchebags like this guy who don't, can't even name a 5-star recruit on a team he calls "his favorite" yet will catch a glance of this article with the words "Investigating" and "Kentucky recruit" and he chimes in.
That's all Not defensive...not in the least to those who actually want to have a discussion about the situation. Those posting or bringing up the sensationalistic headlines for reactions will get the unrelenting hammer from me. Subjects I generally don't know shit about, I don't speak about... -

I agree its annoying, and will be nothing. But everyone at UK knew this type of thing would follow Cal, no matter what. You get the media prodding with Cal, and you gotta live with it. He wins, but he also brings this type of thing almost yearly just by his past.Azubuike24;1167372 wrote:The story is bothersome. This type of investigation is going on all over the country.
