Surprise 'Cuse hasn't really been mentioned. With Melo leaving, leaves door wide open for him to step in. Of course, quite a bit of bad PR around that program. Coulda turned off some recruits.

Yeah. Coleman and Grant didn't seem affected by the controversy though so not sure about that. G'town and UK are both great programs. Syracuse has been in the thick of it so I don't think it scared Noel either.

You guys know my thoughts on G-Town.

It makes way more sense for a big man to go there. Talk about being able to showcase your skills. I'd consider GTown at the top of my list if I was a top center...

Can't wait to see Coleman and Grant on the court for the Orange next season.
  • killer_ewok
    Noel will be a Hoya.
  • killer_ewok
Or not. UK it is. Lose Davis, gain Noel. Wow.
  • SportsAndLady
    Ugh..fuckin Kentucky

UCLA might have problems with Shabazz and the NCAA. Noel is just an easy replacement for Davis. Kentucky with #1 class 4 years in a row thus far. Waiting to see Baylor get in more trouble and NC State still puzzles me.
  • SportsAndLady
UCLA has to have the #1 class this year don't they? I mean 2 of the top 3 players, and 2 other top 75 players.
  • Azubuike24
Baylor has been handed down their punishment.

Going off of ESPN. Havent looked at rivals if they have updated or not. ESPN had Kentucky, Arizona, UCLA in order.

    UCLA: 2, 3 & 69 (Rivals)
    Kentucky: 1, 8, 14 and 40 (Rivals)

Anthony Bennett (Rivals #7) is likely down to Kentucky and Florida.
Tony Parker (Rivals #27) likely has UCLA as his current leader.
Amile Jefferson (Rivals #36) is still a possibility to UK, but probably a 3rd priority at this point.

Rivals does not consider transfers as part of the class. UK could also factor in Ryan Harrow (Rivals #19 in 2010).

If I had to be unbiased, I'd say UCLA has the #1 class. I really think Shabazz is that much better than the rest of this class...

Just read an article from rivals, and it sounds like Kentucky is #1 there also.

z, do you think that will be the final punishment for Baylor or more will come? Wouldnt surprise me if more will come out in the future on Baylors recruiting practices.

My bad, I wasn't really replying to your post...just saw a ranking that Arizona #1, then saw your post, and figured I'd bring it up

    From this investigation, it's done.

The question still remains "Will the NCAA look deeper than sending an intern to Waco to see if he can see Quincy Miller driving a Rolls Royce?"

If they look hard enough (sounds like a job for Sports Illustrated...or maybe they learned their lesson that digging for shit and not releasing any sources isn't shit) they'll find the sketchiness of the sketchy.

Nerlens Noel has gained over 12K Twitter followers since 9 PM.

Shabazz Muhammad has lost over 6K.

    Haha.

The UK fanbase has been on a rollercoaster of emotion tonight. They were all pissed at Noel until 8:45 tonight. Most of them were absolutely certain that it was gonna be GTown. I thought it was probably the Hoyas as well.

Shabazz, on the other hand, wasn't much of a surprise. UCLA has a chance to be really good now though. I'm gonna be pissed if the Wears and Drew II have more success than Carolina.

UCLA has to be the #1 class if they get Parker.

I dont care about total rankings. Just basing it off the guys who are at the top. If you get 3 top 30 kids and a kid ranked 141 why shoul dthat kid bring your class down? I hate how they do that, though I understand its the only way really.

Anthony Bennett rumored to be close to a UK commitment. He'll be with Noel, Goodwin, and Poythress at the Jordan Classic this weekend.

Found this interesting about Shabazz and Noel in SI article:

" Will either of these two ever step onto a college court? It's conceivable that they won't. Noel recently reclassified to the Tilton (N.H.) School class of 2012, meaning that he needs to finish his academic coursework a year earlier than expected. That accelerated schedule isn't buoyed by the fact that he played in the All-American Classic in New Orleans, the Hoop Summit in Oregon and the Jordan Classic in North Carolina over the past three weeks. He missed class time for all of those events, and he'll need to make it up.Muhammad's issues are more typical of elite college basketball prospects these days. CBSSports.com reported that the NCAA was investigating his relationship with two financial advisors and that potential eligibility issues are involved. Stay tuned.'
  • Azubuike24
What they don't mention, is that Noel was previously in the 2012 class. He moved to 2013. Found out he could actually complete classes and graduate to play in 2012, and then re-classified. That is what motivated his re-classification...

While at the time of this post, he isn't graduated, he re-classified a few months ago with this exact intention. Whether he can complete coursework or not was not a changing issue between his re-classification and now. I doubt he would have re-classified AGAIN only to then be a year behind.

As for Shabazz, he'll play. There have been dozens of players who had similar issues. John Wall took money for expenses before college. He did it for over 2 years. I believe it was like 6K overall. He had to pay it back and sit out 3 games...and then he was eligible. This happens every year. It's not considered a major penalty and the NCAA will slap Shabazz on the wrist with a few OOC games and then he'll be fine. Unless more comes out to warrant further penalties, the stuff on him now isn't anything more erroneous than we've seen many times.

I guess since both committed, recruiting is about over. Leave it to the media to write a story about their eligibility. I'm sure they could dig up "eligibility dirt" on half the class of players. Those stories wouldn't be popular though...

    Azubuike24,

What are hearing with regard to Troy Williams? I've been hearing that he's basically down to UK and Carolina, and probably leaning toward Kentucky. Might be making a decision in the near future.
  • Laley23
Shabazz, from what I have heard, will be suspended for 2 games. But this goes back like 3 weeks ago. It may have changed. I just hope they level the penalties before or after UCLA goes to NYC.
  • Azubuike24
Nothing has changed with Shabazz or Noel in a long time. That's why I find it funny these articles are coming out now...

Where were they 3 weeks ago when nobody outside of college basketball had ever heard these guys' names?

Not to mention, they go to 2 programs with big media exposure and it all of the sudden becomes a huge story...I don't buy it. Pot stirring...
