2013 recruiting chatter

ironman02Roy REALLY wanted Randle. Really surprised that Carolina isn't in his final group after Roy made him such a priority, and his in-home went so well.
Noah Vonleh has reclassified to 2013, and Carolina has been in good shape with him. I assume Roy's focus will now turn to him. -
reclegend22I am with you, iron. From everything that I had read, both the Duke and UNC visits went seemingly as well as they possibly could have. Apparently not. By choosing Oklahoma and Florida over Duke and UNC to complete his final list of six schools, what Randle essentially said is that Duke and UNC were never in the game. Disappointing. On to Jabari Parker and Austin Nichols for us.

I assume Noah Vonleh will end up coming down to UNC and Indiana. Same with David Williams. Wouldnt be surprised if they split the two recruits, actually.ironman02;1285726 wrote:Roy REALLY wanted Randle. If UK ends up with the Harrisons, Randle, Young, and Wiggins, I probably won't even watch college basketball that season. The outcome will have already been determined.cats gone wild;1287333 wrote:Harrison brothers choose UK. -
Azubuike24Good news/bad news with Wiggins.
He seems to be a virtual UK lock and he's probably the #1 overall player in high school right now.
He's still got work to do to reclassify to 2013. It's by no means a lock. -
Azubuike24Gotta love this stuff after a recruit doesn't pick your school.

reclegend22Not too surprising considering those fans derive from the same base that handled Jason Williams scoring 8 points in 14 seconds to help beat Maryland from 10 down in Cole Fieldhouse by chucking glass and batteries at the heads of his parents who were sitting behind the Duke bench.
The difference between beating everyone else and beating Maryland is that if you beat Maryland, they'll try to kill you. -
reclegend22Jabari Parker, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2013, narrows his list down to five: Michigan State, Duke, Stanford, Florida and Brigham Young. Per Dave Telep.
It is obvious why BYU is on his list, but, unless the Cougars sign about three Danny Ainges before next fall, Utah would seem to be a long-shot as Parker's next stop.
Parker is reported to be a highly intellectual kid who places great emphasis on education (even though he is almost certain a one-and-done), so Stanford makes perfect sense. Props to Johnny Dawkins for helping sell the Cardinal and making the final drive. I'm sorry, though, Johnny, you'll just have to find someone else. Hopefully, for my sake.
Duke, Michigan State and Florida seem the most obvious choices, and, really, he couldn't go wrong with any of them, IMO. -
Azubuike24Parker is taking a visit to Florida this weekend. Florida hosts LSU in football and they are preparing to begin basketball practice next week.
I think Florida and Duke are going to be the final 2 for Jabari, but if Florida lands him, they COULD surpass UK for the #1 class. They already have 2 of the top 10 players with Chris Walker (#6) and Kasey Hill (#7).
It's also kind of sad how bad the SEC has been in basketball outside of a few programs. Right now, the conference has Hill and Walker to FLA, the Harrison twins to UK, SG Robert Hubbs (#12) at Tennessee, C Bobby Portis (#14) at Arkansas and both LSU and South Carolina also have a kid in the top 40 committed. Alabama (2), Missouri, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt, along with another each for Arkansas and LSU also have commitments from top 80 players.
This has been a theme for the last 5-10 years, yet consistently the conference is behind the B1G, Big East, ACC and Big XII in hoops, despite out-recruiting them consistently. Coaching? I think so. Lots of pressure on some of the newer SEC coaches who have proven they can recruit. We'll see what they do with it. -
ironman02Young to UK tomorrow?
-
Azubuike24Looks like it. He was scheduled to visit Syracuse but obviously won't be now. Only other possibility is Michigan State, but many feel he's been a UK lock for a while now. This is the scary part though...according to James Young's godfather:
"You play with Wiggins, you play with the Harrison twins, you play with Julius Randle, I would envision an up-and-down game and an opportunity for people who pose a threat from the outside to be able to given that opportunity," he said. "Simultaneously, if you have an opportunity to get to the bucket and create some things, I think it just presents a very interesting scenario, I really do."
I think most know Wiggins is a UK lock. The question is whether he moves up to the 2013 class. If he does, many agree he will move up to the #1 overall player ranking. Anyone who watched last year's Nike Hoops Summit, a Sophomore Wiggins was by far the best player in a game that featured Shabazz Muhammad, Nerlens Noel and Kyle Anderson, the top 3 players of the 2012 class. -

I think as part of the ongoing conference realignment Kentucky should leave the SEC for Europe. We'd miss you.Azubuike24;1292211 wrote:Looks like it. Azubuike24Still takes coaching.
I think Cal is a master, but since underachieving with the 2010 team, he's really been a master chemist with the past 2 teams. Great talent, but amazing chemistry and cohesion for brand new parts. -

If there is one thing that I truly admire about Calipari, it is just that, his innate ability to not only attract a brand new stockpile of first round draft picks almost every single year -- which, let's just face it, over the past three or four years at UK has been some of the best recruiting the game has ever seen -- but also get them to fully buy into the concept of team and play to win above all else while, at the same time, blend in effortlessly with the core of complimentary players around them. There are, of course, going to be years that the formula works better than others, but there is no denying that he has a gift for communicating.
I definitely do not enjoy seeing this happen at Kentucky, but I do respect the tradition and what Cal has been able to build in such a strikingly quick amount of time. -
GOONx19James Young just picked Kentucky. That's three Top 10s for next year, with Julius Randle and Wiggins still good possibilities.
-
Azubuike24Heck, sounds like they are co-leaders for Marcus Lee and are still in on Aaron Gordon. After Gordon, Lee, Randle and Wiggins, unless Cal wants someone outside of the top 25, he's going to start building 2014 and 2015. The top.
We've already seen serious interest from Trey Lyles (#7 in 2014), Cliff Alexander (#5 in 2014, near UK lock) and Dakari Johnson (#6 in 2014) have already expressed interest in UK and at least Alexander is visiting Madness on Friday. -
reclegend22Is there any way at all that Wiggins isn't a cat? I mean, really? I imagine canceling a visit to Big Blue Madness, as Wiggins reportedly did a couple of days ago, just means it's a foregone conclusion.
Leonard Hamilton has proven he can draw in elite talent, but I just don't see it. Had Wiggins been in this year's class, FSU might have been a more viable choice in my mind because he would have been able to play alongside Seminole senior Michael Snaer, a bona fide first team All-American candidate. That combo could have produced a serious tournament run. -
Azubuike24Trey Lyles WILL be at BBM tomorrow night.
Apparently, Wiggins had the chance to go home to Canada to see his mother for a long weekend with a break from school, and he's choosing to do that. I don't think it's an indication of his commitment.
Wiggins and Alexander are basically UK locks. The only question is what class is Wiggins in?
Thought this article was interesting about Jabari Parker and the idea of a Mormon mission before enrolling in college basketball.

Azubuike24Rumors that Marcus Lee is very close to making his announcement to Kentucky. He's supposed to visit California this weekend for his official visit, but he came across the country for Big Blue Madness, from San Francisco. Insane.

Thought he looked pretty good from his highlights when indiana was recruiting him. More than Anya at least, who they have decided to focus on as far as big men go.Azubuike24;1295516 wrote:Rumors that Marcus Lee is very close to making his announcement to Kentucky. GOONx19Wayne Seldon committed to Kansas after being there for Midnight Madness. Their perimeter is shaping up nicely.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeMaybe I'm behind the curve, but I thought Randle was more of a lock than Wiggins.
-
Azubuike24Don't think so. Wiggins just isn't sure what class he's going to represent. I think Randle could actually end up at Florida. The Gators are still in on Jabari Parker and Julius Randle.

Azubuike24Marcus Lee (Rivals #15) announcing tomorrow morning around 11:30 AM. He was down to Kentucky and California, but was scheduled to visit California on Saturday and decide before his HS season. All of the sudden he's announcing tomorrow morning. Not sure how it isn't UK at this point...
