2013 recruiting chatter

I believe it was like 6K overall. He had to pay it back and sit out 3 games...and then he was eligible. This happens every year. It's not considered a major penalty and the NCAA will slap Shabazz on the wrist with a few OOC games and then he'll be fine. Unless more comes out to warrant further penalties, the stuff on him now isn't anything more erroneous than we've seen many times.

    ...
Probably. Although the addidas thing with contract to his sister(tennis) makes this one a little more intriguing.
  • Azubuike24
Yeah I saw. His sister isn't even a great prospect However, they would pretty much have to link that back to it being a reason he came to UCLA. I mean it's either Nike or Adidas so I'd think that would be kind of hard to prove unless someone left a paper trail or some sort of proof.
  • Azubuike24
Just like the McDonald's game, the East superior to the West, although Shabazz has shown up for the West.
  • sportswizuhrd
Azu, do you know if there is a rule on how many All-Star games these kids can play in? I was thinking it is/was 2.
  • Azubuike24
Used to be, but not anymore. Many of them have been in at least 3.

I'm pretty confident in UK's guys. Goodwin, Noel and Poythress are 3 of the top 6-8 guys out there.

Many of the bigs who are rated high are so because of potential. Give me guys rated lower like the above-mentioned, Anderson, Purvis, Dunn, etc...as immediate contributors next year. Guys like Austin, Parker, Tarczewski and McGary are going to take time to adjust.
  • Azubuike24
The West has come alive. So has Shabazz, Goodwin and Poythress. The West has absolutely dominated.

Thought this was a pretty cool article..recruit's 2nd schools

    http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/boys-basketball/post/_/id/4620/jbc-stars-reveal-their-no-2-schools

    Also this was interesting:
The recruits were asked if they really had a list of five to seven schools that they’re considering?

“To be honest, no,” Ashley said with a laugh. “That’s just something we put out there to keep it exciting. We put it out there in the media to build that suspense, but in our minds it’s like, 'I’m not going there.' It’s usually just two schools in the end.”

    Rodney Purvis concurred.

He said that after a while, players get tired of the “same old boring questions that media guys ask” and decide to spice things up and make it fun.

I think this is the year 2016, but my head hurts doing that math lol.

Anyway, Indiana has offered Eron Gordon, 8th Grader from Indianapolis. Youngest brother of Eric Gordon. Kid is going to be a stud, just tore up the IndyBall AAU tourney for his age group (but was playing a year up). Eric has said that Eron is better at the same age. Physical maturity and work ethic will determine if he ends up as good. I say no, but still an All-Big Ten caliber player.

What are hearing with regard to Troy Williams? I've been hearing that he's basically down to UK and Carolina, and probably leaning toward Kentucky. Might be making a decision in the near future.
    From earlier tonight:

    Troy Williams @troywilliams_
Just talk to my uncle... Commitment time is coming soooon.
Just talked to my Aunt Terri... She's down with the plan too now.

UK or UNC. Almost assuredly one of the two.

Thanks. I happened to see that earlier also.

UK is pretty hot right now. Hopefully Carolina can pull this one out.

Zags is pretty reliable. Definitely going to put the school he picks in great position for the #1 class in 2013.

I'd say Troy Williams will be headed to UK. At Kentucky, he "might" have to compete with guys like Goodwin and Poythress for minutes, but only if they aren't one-and-done. At Carolina, he would most likely have to compete with Bullock, Hairston, McDonald, and Tokoto...definitely at least two of those guys. Williams, from the things I've read recently, will want to play early and often since he doesn't plan on sticking around long. If that's the case, UK is probably the better fit. It doesn't hurt that they're the reigning national champion.

Hopefully he chooses the Heels, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Carolina does already have 5-Star recruits Nate Britt and Isaiah Hicks committed for the 2013 class. Would love to see them add Williams and Julius Randle, or even one of them.

OSU recruiting news for those interested:

Ohio State is known to be recruiting three: 6-4 guard Amedeo Della Valle, an Italian guard by way of Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev.; Rodney Hood, a 6-8 freshman wing transferring from Mississippi State; and Anthony Gill, a 6-8 freshman forward transferring from South Carolina.Della Valle is making an official visit to Ohio State beginning today, and Gill is scheduled to visit this weekend. Hood also plans to visit, but it has not been scheduled, his father said.
Hood and Gill would have to sit out next season as transfers.

OSU picks up a commit from 6-4 guard Amedeo Della Valle, an Italian guard by way of Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev. Don't know much about him except that he is supposed to be a shooter. Certainly a team need.

Tony Parker is deciding tomorrow at 4 PM. OSU is in his final schools along with Georgia, Duke and UCLA.

There have been rumors about UCLA for awhile, but I see angles for UGA (home school) and OSU/Duke (huge PT available).

As for the 2013 class, it's seemingly going to be unprecedented. Outside of maybe 2-3 kids of the top 25, UK will pick the 6 players they want and the rest will fall in place.

They can pretty much get the Harrison twins, Chris Walker, Andrew Wiggins (#1 in 2014 now, likely re-classifying) and James Young if they want right now. Troy Williams, Aaron Gordon and a few others are in the next wave. They already have Derek Willis, who is #23 overall right now, but has A LOT to prove his Senior year against major competition.

Parker may have OSU on his list, but he cut off contact with them a few weeks back. I suspect from what I have read, its 1. Duke 2. UCLA

I'd take UCLA if I were a betting man.

:) I was going to just tell you he chose UCLA but thought I'd make a smartass comment instead.

lol, to be honest I thought he picked UCLA last week cause everything I kept reading had him in the UCLA class. I just re-read that stuff on Twitter from the Rivals and Scout guys, I guess they were just guessing with their inside knowledge.

Welp, now its official. UCLA is loaded. Howland better not suck.

One thing I wasn't aware of, that I just read, was that Howland hired Parker AAU coach last June. How often do we see that happen? If I had known that, i would have guessed UCLA easily.

Happens a lot. I know that you have to be at least 1 year removed from coaching a kid to be hired onto a staff. Or if your hired onto a staff, that kid cant come.

EDIT: I actually thought it was 2 years, but apparently not.

I'm not up much on West Coast basketball, so who does UCLA have coming back that can make them a real contender this year?
