Defense looks great. Better hope this running game holds up because the QB play is dog shit.

WTF, Haley? I know you want to experiment in the preseason but 1st & goal from the 1 and you throw it four times after your RB's just gouged them with two big gainers?

Very encouraged by this defense though.

Ehh... we’re running out there with a bunch of possession receivers. You’d have to expect their D to be all over us as good as they are. Not the QBs fault. It’ll be better with Calloway and Gordon back.

The defense was excellent last night. Had a few break downs early against the run but overall I thought they played very well. Miles Garrett is a freaking animal. Tyrod looked ok.  Mayfield played good. That throw on the comeback to Higgins and that seem throw was absolutely great throws.

I’ve talked myself into a lot of Browns QBs over the years, but I think they finally have a good one in waiting. He makes some throws lots of NFL starters don’t make. The seam route you mentioned. The throw on the run preseason game 1. As you said the comeback, over the DB, and on the money. The Callaway TD, Njoku TD, and the TD last week that was called back for knee out of bounds. Just so many throws to love. Has some issues to work out, and last night the rush got to him a lot (though Philly maybe has best front 7 in football). But yeah, a ton of shit to like which we haven’t seen in forever. Usually it’s pointing to 2-3 throws total and saying it can happen all the time haha.

Not questioning that wasn't the greatest group of WR's or Philly's defense but what I saw of TT is starting to come to fruition....holds the ball too long (taking bad sacks) and can't throw a deep ball to save his life. Had Landry behind the defenders and overthrew him by 10 yards. Did the same either last week or the week before where he had a guy open in the end zone and he threw it out of the end zone.

Even with Gordon & Calloway back, not sure how much their talent (assuming JG can come back to close to his previous form) will benefit the team with TT back there. Gordon's deep routes will be essentially taken away with how bad he is throwing deep.

And don't take this as a "we need to see Mayfield NOW" type of post because I don't think Baker's even close to ready.

Agree with the comment that Miles Garrett looks like a friggin beast. Also like the rookie LB Avery. Part of the reason I could see Jamie Collins being a bubble player, regardless of his contract. Collins may have saved his job with that pick last night.

One of my biggest questions is "why the Hell dumbass Hue put TT back out there?" If he's your starting QB, you don't risk that to get preseason "reps." Even in the post game presser Hue said they are going to "look at Tyrod's wrist closer" which tells me putting him back out there was just stupid.

Again, if this defense plays like it has been and they can establish a consistent running game, this team is going to be in the mix in most games.

I think it was more of tyrod wanting to go back in so baker couldn’t take his job. He knows Baker is right on his heals and if Baker gets the starting spot and plays well he’s not going to lose it

I don't want to overreact to preseason play calling, but if they have four tries to get one yard (TD or first down) in the regular season and they throw the ball all 4 times I might pop a blood vessel.

I like how so far as a rookie he is smart about protecting the ball.  Even the possessions he scrambled for a 1 yard or threw the ball away.  That's Russell Wilson shit that allows you to live another day.

Btw Avery is looking like a steal. The one strip of foles was so impressive. Just blew up ertz, then plowed right through lane Johnson just to strip foles. I’ve been super impressed by him

I don't know if Baker is necessarily on TT's heels as Hue seems committed to Taylor, likely because he's trying to save his own skin and get some wins with what he considers the "proven" veteran, even though I think Mayfield adds a dynamic TT will never have.. I'm sure TT wanted to go back in there but that's Hue's call. I'm not comparing their skill sets, because they are not even in the same universe, but if that happened to Brady in a preseason game, no way in Hell the Hoodie trots him back out there.

Believe me, Baker's been my guy well before the draft so I want him to play but even I don't think he's ready.

Gordon and callaway back and playing at their expected level, you wouldn’t see how that could help the team? Because of a preseason game?

Thought it might have been them just wanting to experiment, or give TT some confidence with a TD throw, but when he ended up getting injured on that 4th down play, and they didn't convert. I was pissed. Guy I work with had seats down there and TT rolled towards his seats when he dinged up his wrist. He said all of the fans in the section were screaming "you fucking dumbasses" at Haley & Hue when TT went down.

Have also heard that Haley can be stubborn as Hell and will sometimes try to pound a square peg into a round hole (throw excessively whether it's working or not to prove he's right). But like you said, if this happens in the regular season, oh boy.

It would be nice to start getting some of these draft steals.  We are due for a few, arent we?!

I think Hard Knocks is exposing him (in some ways) that we already know... he's inept. This could be (hypothetically) a 10 win team and he'd somehow "will" it to 6 wins.

I actually think his criticism from Hard Knocks is highly overblown and only due to the fact he has only won 1 game.

Well, we've seen some of his decision making that the whole nation hasn't seen (on HK's) and I'll still go with inept. Keep hearing "can't win with that talent" but I think if he's given a talent loaded team he's still going to under perform.

I don't disagree that Hue sucks ass, but I also think the criticism stemming from Hard Knocks is highly overblown imo.

That's the Todd Haley way. Over the past couple years, he had one of the top backs in the league and a 300-pound QB, but when it came down to less than a yard to go, he'd regularly get cute with bubble screens and other slow-developing stuff instead of pounding out those six inches in the trenches and trusting that his talent and strength would be more than the opponent's. That was good for a handful of drunken meltdowns per year from me.

I've heard this from quite a few of my Steeler fan friends. Seems like a lot of Browns fans love him because we're in the honeymoon phase but I've heard that eventually sours.

He was up and down for me. Times I wanted him canned, others I was cheering for him because the offense was going off. Just know you're in for a lot of head scratcher moments.

Good to know.  Overall though, I still don't get the hate from Steelers fans.  Pittsburgh's offense was never as explosive as it was under Haley.

It's mostly the oddball call or just trying to get too cute. Great call play, great play, 3 idiotic plays for no gain, punt.
