our #1 D against their #1 O for the first four series looked outstanding--we can be pretty darn good on defense this year, but obviously our offense needs to find its identity and come together quickly if we're going to get out of the gate fast. I like what I see so far, but like most of us on here, am cautiously optimistic.

Also, fwiw, not upset we lost last night, cause remember what happened when we were undefeated in the pre-season last year--bad juju.

Sounds like the league had a big hand in everything. Also, I’m reading that he’s “back” but can’t actually participate yet.

My thought was he didn't want to deal (anxiety or whatever) with crowds or HBO

Everyone hold your horses

“Since #Brown WR Josh Gordon is still in jointly negotiated substance abuse program, he’s subject to certain conditions. Per @NFLprguy: “This part of the process. Can attend meetings, do conditioning. Can go to practice but not participate. No timetable on next step.””

Yeah that’s the tweet I was referring to.

Needs to learn how to run routes before he can dominate. Good to hear he's at least closer to being back.

He’s already been the best WR in the NFL. Did he forget something between then and now?

Really, because as I recall, the Hoyer-lead Browns were on a playoff pace when Gordon returned and everything turned to shit. Besides the Hoyer/Manziel bullshit that was going on, a lot of their downward spiral that year happened because Gordon returned, wasn't running the right routes and helped mess up the offense. How soon some of you apologists forget this shit. He's great at running a nine route but he's one of the least polished route runners on this team.

Gordon revealed that three of Brian Hoyer's five interceptions over the previous two games came from Gordon running the wrong routes.

I’m pretty sure Landry even said it’s crazy how good his route running is for his size and speed smh

We'll see. He's had essentially 5 years since he's played consistent football. Hope I'm wrong but to say he's going to come in and "dominate", especially with who the starting QB will be, is a major stretch.

Back to football and away from Days of our Lives....

Sounds like EJ Gaines tore his ACL today in practice. Wonder if this means we'll sign Breeland.

That’s because he came back out of shape in 14. Which definitely isn’t the case right now. His routes have always been sharp minus the aforementioned out of shape return in 14. We don’t have to worry about that now. He’ll be back to what he was when he was the best in the game. It’s pretty ridiculous to label his game after his 14 return.

I hope Gordon returns to form, but to say he is a terrible route runner is asinine.  Maybe his lack of playing time has diminished his skills, which is a reasonable assumption, but to base his terrible route running off of his previous play is ridiculous.  He dominated the league with Weeden and Campbell throwing to him.  It wasn't because he was fast and ran streaks all the time.  He had remarkable route running that season.  You don't lead the league in reception yards and almost in TDs,  after missing two games, if you're a terrible route runner.   BR, you're basing Gordon's performance that season when he missed about 10+ weeks of practice and they just threw him in the fire and Shannahan thought it would be a good idea to have the entire offense go thru a guy that missed  3/4 of the season.  Even then his first game back he had 120 reception yards. Give me a fucking break.

Nice comeback. As usual, you have nothing. To expect Gordon to come back in and "dominate" when the guy hasn't played consistently in FIVE years is ridiculous. He's admitted himself his route running has been less than spectacular. His scouting report, out of college, has said the same. He hasn't PRACTICED in Haley's new system and he's just going to step on the field and be "superstar" right out of the gate? Doubtful. "If" he stays clean, I'd expect him to be getting into the fold after the bye week.

You, like most of the fan base, are living in a fucking dream world thinking he's doing to "dominate." Also not taking into account who will be throwing him the ball (mediocre QB with bad long ball skills).

And TBH, I really don't care what Jarvis Landry said about his route running skills. Since Landry's been here he's been a cheerleader for this team, making comments like "we're going to put up 40 on our opponents" and touting Tyrod Taylor like he's going to have a career renaissance. TT is what he is, a middle of the road QB, who isn't good at throwing the ball down the field (especially across the middle) who is "safe" with the ball (will take a ton of sacks versus throwing the ball) who won't lose you games, or win them, for you.

Again, he hasn't practiced in Haley's system and hasn't been running routes.

"He’ll be back to what he was when he was the best in the game." << this is funny and just as ridiculous to label him as being back to what he was when he was the best in the game after a 5 year layoff.
