So i got a Whoop today for my birthday. I kept hearing Russillo talk about it on his podcast all the damn time and wanted to give it a try. It’s probably something I’d never buy myself but my parents wanted to get me something so I suggested it. Just got it set up, so we’ll see.

If you’re not familiar, it’s suppose to track your exercising, sleeping, etc. My mom was reading testimonials about it on the website and there was one where it helped someone detect Covid because their respiratory rate had been higher than usual. I’m interested to see how it goes.

Yes.

I have a friend who's a diehard Whoop user. Started way back when Rogan plugged it.

I like the sleep tracking aspect and the app is great, but no screen no go for me.  I'll stick with Apple Watch.

I've been running again, I hate it so much. Still waiting for a bike I ordered in late June. It's frustrating. Should have it within the next month.

Whatever happened to COA? I know he was big into cycling. Wish we could have some more discussion about that. I'm very new to it (grew up riding BMX) so before all my research I was clueless regarding "modern" bikes.

Calling it quits on Whoop already. I don’t think it’s meant for people with wildly varying sleep schedules like myself. I have zero data available right now. It counted my sleep last night as a Thursday nap.

Dropped $500+ on the new Samsung watch. Found out they Apple-d me on the always on display.  Left outraged hot takes everywhere I could post a review,

Returned.  And, yeah, claimed defective because I'm not paying a re-stocking fee for that bullshit,

It does, Samsung just forces it to 15% brightness because of burn-in or battery.   And that basically ruins it because 15% just isn't enough..

If not Apple Watch try the Garmin Fenix 5.

I looked at the Garmin, but all you gain over other watches is an on-demand SpO2 sensor.  Not sure how good the Samsung is, but it has 8 heart rate sensors when other watches have 2-3 (yet it supposedly isn't more accurate).  Apple is no better than the top Android watches, other than it's ECG feature but severely limits your options on watch faces.

I love the look of the Fenix. Only reason I have an Apple Watch is because iPhone.

My friend has the Fenix 5 Plus and the new Samsung g20 Ultra. Baller setup.

I don't disagree.  But I think, ultimately, I passed on it because it didn't have as many features as the top Android watches.  Some of the Garmin use a proprietary software which is rather limited, and others that use Android didn't have all the sensors, or lacked NFC or music storage for example.

It's a crazy market.  Android watches from TAG and Fossil don't have a heart rate monitor and/or GPS or NFC despite costing a small fortune.  There's a singularly great weightlifting app (Progression) that is only available on Android and IOS.

The Galaxy Watch 3 was, I hoped (pending FDA approval and a software update), almost everything I could want.  If I can't figure out the always on display issue I'm returning it.  It could be the watchmaker app that needs updated, but apparently Samsung blacks it out if you try to make it brighter than 15% in dim mode.  It's fine for a black & white watchface, but that's boring.  Shame on Samsung for telling me how I should use my watch.

Here's my gym for the foreseeable future. Holy shit, bikes have come a long way. Rides like a dream, but I'm dealing with neck stiffness. Either posture is off, bike needs tweaking....or a combo of both.

Man, finding free weights that aren't gouging you for 3-5X retail is almost impossible.

IronMaster just got a little stock in, but I missed out on their drawing.  Next one isn't until mid-September.

Can't find plates anywhere.  There might be some olympic plates out there, but I don't have the space for olympic bars.  Not really interested in overpaying for someone's rusty old plates off EBAY.

I assumed most of this stuff came from China, and figured supplies would have been rolling back in by now.

since my wife and i don't go to the gym anymore we started working on a home gym for our basement.

Bought some free weight plates and dumbbell bars from a local place and a bench off amazon. Also bought a Peloton and a rowing machine.

I ordered this but it doesn't ship until Sept 10th. https://www.powertec.com/products/workbench-levergymr-yellow

I don't have space for anything like that.  Just have a simple adjustable incline/flat bench.  Nice piece of equipment, though.  If I had space, I'd probably go for something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Equipment-Exercise-Attachment-Multi-Grip-Optional/dp/B07C9896CM/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=squat+rack+with+lat+pull&qid=1597420126&sr=8-5

Been keeping an eye on dumbbell plates.  And I've snagged some 10's and 7.5's, at "reasonable" prices to complement the 40-lb set I got.  But looking for some 50's and 25/35's for deadlift, and to lesser extent rows and squats.  Not looking to get much more on the dumbbell plates as I'm planning to get the IronMaster set

That is a lot of $ for all those, rowing machines went for a premium during the restrictions

Nothing tops $4-5 per lb for weight plates.

Yeah it wasn’t cheap. I think the plates and dumbbell bars were a couple hundred themselves. The bench was like $100 so it wasn’t terrible. The peloton was the most at $2250 and the rowing machine was $500. But that lever gym and bumper plates were $2k.

We’re about 5 grand in it. Our gym membership was $200 a month so it’ll take 2 years to pay back

There is a guy here in town about 60 years old and he still runs 50-60 miles a week...he’s been running that way at least back to the mid 80’s.....he’s gotta be getting there

When you have that time and motivation, a gym even 5 minutes away can't beat having it at home.  Although I've always found it less motivating lifting at home by myself.  But cardio all day - because all you do at the gym on cardio is listen to your tunes or watch tv, anyway.

Only thing that sucks about the spinlock dumbbells I have is it takes too damn long to change weights.  Between warming up and supersets I spend all my rest time rushing to change plates before my next set.  The IronMaster are easier to change, and it will give me a second set of dumbbells to make life a little easier.

Screw that.  Walking takes more time, but all the research I've read says it's just as good for heart health....without the physical toll on your body.
