Have a 5k coming up on Thanksgiving, have not done much in a month or too. Have a 4 week old baby (and a 20 month old) so finding 20 minutes to go run is becoming hard. It ends up having to be at 7:30 and it's pitch black outside. I would try mornings but so far sleeping 4-5 hours isn't enough to get my ass outta bed to do it.

Been injured for awhile.  Haven't lifted in awhile and it sucks. Slowly rehabbing and just doing cardio/yoga.

What happened if you don't mind me asking?

Haven't lifted any weights in months, but have been golfing a ton, and since getting my Apple Watch I've been motivated to just move as much as possible. Lots of walking.

Still climbing regularly. I can now dabble with v4s.

I have the itch to get back to the gym now though. The one at the climbing gym is small and shitty. My job pays up to $200/month for “wellness” claims so I may join a cheaper place for the hell of it.

Just joined a sports and wellness facility. Trying to get back into some better shape after my knee surgery.  I’m a member of Silver Sneakers, so it’s free.

Slacked off this summer, then Mrs. Z and I started hitting the gym again two months ago.  Now we get up at 4:30 AM to go work out four days a week.  Wasn't fun at first, now it's just okay.

I'll go legs-back-bi's on two days, chest, shoulders, tri's on the other two.  No rest between movements.  Moved to a high-rep (30 per set) approach and it seems to be working.

And I started bench-pressing again, after a 30-year hiatus.  I'm only using - don't laugh too hard - 95 lbs.  It's a start

However, no more cardio for now.  My right hip failed on me this spring.  Can still do leg extensions and curls, but no leg presses or full cardio.   Planning on joint replacement maybe next spring.

Core muscle injury (formerly known as a "sports hernia").  It takes a long time to rehab from it and it sucks.

I had a sports hernia in 2009. Initially thought I had an STD. Lol

Searing random pain in the groin area. Freaked me the fuck out. Took a few doctors visits to get an accurate diagnosis. It was minor but still took a while to heal, I wasn’t right for months.

In other news. I just got a yoga mat.

I started rehabbing near the end of July.  It has gotten better, but it definitely has some way to go.  How long did it take for you?  I inititally thought I had a real hernia.

Discomfort wasn't completely gone until around 4 months. I didn't feel comfortable lifting weights until 6 months. I took it very easy though and changed the way I worked out completely.

Still going 6 days a week or so, splitting between running 3-4 miles/day or doing an hour of push-pull lifting. No real goals in mind. Just something to do to kill time and stress. Too bad my diet isn't anything to brag about. I feel like I'm looking trimmer but the number on the scale stays the same.

Yup, sounds like my life 3 months into rehabbing Smfh.

Anyone getting ripped? Winter bulking? Staying fat?

I curbed rock climbing for a bit. I sprained my hand/wrist in November the pain/stiffness has been hanging around because I didn't address it after it happened. I was instructed to splint it for 4 weeks so that's where I'm at.

I'm going on a serious snowboarding trip in a month, so I'm a bit nervous. My legs are weak, so I've been hitting cardio and lower body workouts hard AF for the last two weeks. It's been going well, but super boring.

I gained 5 pounds over the holidays. I pretty much had a dgf attitude about eating. Back to more salads now. Would have been worse if I weren't working out.

I get the best time in January, February, March.  No outside activities, mostly gym work

A regular at the gym commented Monday about it being crowded, reminded him that it tapers off and most of the crowd will be gone by February

Still hitting it hard trying to keep what muscle I have left while shedding fat. Had to bite the bullet and join the local Planet Fitness so I at least have a treadmill to walk on. The belt folded over on mine and the repair cost would've been almost as much as what it cost me to purchase it. So I walk at PF and weight train in the garage.

Any swimmers here?  I am thinking about starting to swim laps and was wondering what should I strive for as a begginer lap swimmer.  1000M?

Swimming is more about breathing technique than cardio in the beginning

The increase in distance might be exponential the first few times

Depending the press conference tonight (I'll keep the politics out of this), our pool recently opened back up, and I plan on starting only about 40%-50% of where I left off when it closed in March, even with my cardio still high from biking and running

Anybody have a Pelaton or a Myx bike? Been lazy as shit recently and it’s catching up. Usually just run for exercise but with 2 kids and it being in the hundreds with heat index every day,  that’s tough right now.

A couple of my friends have cheaper bikes and just use the Peloton app for their rides and other workouts. They both really enjoy it.

I started running in May. It's been an interesting journey especially since I've only strength trained for the last 9 years and if I ran, it consisted of short sprints.

I have started doing my runs at night (in town so we have street lights), and I really like that compared to morning or day runs.

How far are you going?

I've had to pretty much stop running because of my knees.  I ran 3-5 times per week for 20 years.  I've found other things to take it's place, but I miss it.

Nothing crazy. Typically going between 2-4 miles. I run 3 or 4 days a week and get a lift in 1 or 2 days in my garage.

Not a huge fan of distance running and quite honestly, anything over 3 miles and I start to get bored lol. But it is interesting to challenge myself some days and see what I can do as far as pace/distance is concerned.

I’ll probably work up to 5 miles and that’ll be my max mileage. Once fall gets here I will hopefully start lifting a little more regularly.

Also....runners high, haven’t gotten that yet. What’s it feel like?

In all seriousness though, I have noticed my breathing is a lot better from when I started in May. I remember my first mile and thought I was going to die haha. No I’ll look at my watch and 2.5 miles feels like nothing.

Runners high?  I think I've had it after running between 5-15 miles on maybe -10 different occasions over the years.  If what I experienced was "runner's high", then runner's high is a huge feeling of serenity and peace that lasts for a couple of hours after finishing the run.

Good luck in your running.  Best form of meditation I know of.

Here is a  high intensity interval workout on the elliptical I've been doing.  If you go all out, it's a ball buster.

- 5:00 warmup

- 8 rounds of :30 sprints followed by 1:30 of slow-to-moderate pace.

The elliptical I used goes to a 25 resistance.  I used a resistance of 12 for the sprints and 8 for the rest periods.  The first few rounds were pretty easy.  Then it became a fight with the devil.  Feels good afterward though.
