That's what I was wondering, too. If testing is more available now than it was the last couple weeks, the increased numbers over the last couple days would be less a spike when we were hoping we had plateaued and more an incident where we simply are getting numbers that are at least somewhat more in line with reality.
I don't think the number of confirmed cases is a good metric, as others have mentioned more testing = more confirmed. It looks like when NY reports, a good number is the change in hospitalized cases. I really wish this info for all states and cities were easier to find.

You would think/hope so. The problem is Ohio doesn’t give a lot of information on their testing.

Updated #COVID19 data just posted to http://coronavirus.ohio.gov
8,239 Confirmed Cases
373 Confirmed Fatalities
Note: Because #Ohio can currently only test the sickest individuals and those working on the frontlines, the total number of cases is most certainly higher.
This plan would give $2000 a month to everyone over the age of 16 that makes less than $130k a year. It would continue for at least 6 months, and remain in place until unemployment drops to pre-Covid levels. But, $2000 in free money per month would likely mean we never return to pre-Covid levels.
What are the odds another plan gets passed?
posted by like_thatThe people who have been saying from the beginning the virus came from a lab have to feel pretty good when two polarizing media sources report it.
I still stand by that China didn't purposely infect their own people. It seems dumb to infect your own people, when you could easily deploy the virus into another country. With that being said, I would NOT be shocked if it came from a lab. Is it really that far fetched? For example, the same country throws Uyghurs into concentration camps and we are trying to act shocked they have a lab that creates fucked up viruses?
The most likely theory is whether it came from a lab or wet market, China purposely did nothing to prevent the outbreak around the world. They pulled a good ol "if I am going down, you're coming down with us." This is why they didn't stop anyone from traveling during Chinese New Year, which is their biggest travel season. I will never forgive China. We will look back at this time and say Italy was the first country to signal to the rest of the world this virus was a serious issue.
The CCP halted all ground and air travel from Hubei province (where Wuhan is located) to anywhere else in China on January 23rd . They knew they had a deadly virus on their hands (from the Lab). Incredibly, they did NOT halt international travel in and out of Hubei province, thereby KNOWINGLY infecting the world. Whether the virus was intended as a bio-weapon, we don’t know. But certainly the actions noted above can be called bio-warfare.
Imagine what you would have to pay someone to work in a grocery store.
There will probably be another "Plan" to come, but most likely not the one proposed by Ryan. It's the Dems turn, but i'd be suprised if Pelosi supports this one, she still wants his head delivered on a platter. Look for a re-write.

There’s no shot of that getting passed. They won’t even get enough D’s to pass it, let alone turn some R’s

posted by HereticWell, if we're being honest, I don't know that I've met a single person who reps the Confederate Flag who isn't a total dumbass, so the concept of them confusing state vs. federal is only about 120%.
I've actually met a few who are sympathetic to the states' rights element of the south and wouldn't have supported the north (though they all seemed uneasy about saying they'd support the south, too), but yeah, none of them sport the Stainless Banner.
posted by kizer permanenteNew high cases again today in Ohio. After it looked like we plateaued.
I'm wondering if people got too optimistic about that plateau.

Interesting. Good to know. Given how it does seem to live on surfaces, though, I'm not sure I can see how wearing a pair of gloves into a store and taking them off (properly) before touching the car door would increase the risk. From a skim of the article, it seems like their argument against them is just that they provide a false sense of security. That's purely psychological.

Sounds like it's not a matter of testing having become more freely available.

Nope. If your choices are to make $2,000 a month not working and the same or less while working, what are most people going to do?

I'd say they're high, after all the uproar from the PPP money running out.

LOL, all these massive traffic jams to protest lockdowns.....how many people found themselves in the middle of one of these before they realized "this was a really fucking bad idea!" Then a few minutes later it dawns on you "everything is closed - how are people going the bathroom?!?"

I have to wonder how many of the people at these protests blocking traffic were the ones bitching about the climate protestors doing the same thing in October under the auspices of it being selfish and harming to regular people.
SHIT IT GOT VON MILLER
Trump’s presser was refreshing to watch, knowing that things will start up again soon. I hope everyone doesn’t just rush to go hang out in massive groups right away, but it’s definitely good to see this is starting to decline and we can start getting back to some normalcy.

I would never block traffic, but I don’t see them comparable at all. One is a bunch of nut bags, the others are protesting the constitution and freedoms. Either way, I’d never do it bc it’s retarded.
posted by SpockYou sure there? Everytime?
I hate when anyone outside of SC flies that thing. Its pure racism anywhere but there. Lets not put all the deplorables into the same Rebel flag racism group
Every single NASCAR race and country music festival is filled with people flying these two next to each other. It isn't all of the deplorables (as you say), but there is definitely a large contingent.
I think they need to slowly allow people to do things. Gatherings with friends and family for another few weeks is a good start. Something like, "if your friends and family have been following the precautions as you, its now ok to gather together" or something like that. Then start allowing people to eat at restaurants with less capacity to abide by social distancing. Some sort of gradual back to normal I think would stem a secondary spike. If you just "open it all back up" we are gonna be right back here in 3 months times. Id much rather be given back some of my liberties slowly to make sure we arent back here again.

They don't think they're nut bags at all.
As for those criticizing them for blocking traffic, most did so because of the blocking traffic. Not to deny them the right to assemble and protest.
I agree, though. Blocking traffic is dumb and selfish.
So I look at the Ohio site everyday, and I think the cause is Ohio’s shitty reporting. The daily new cases seem to change every for about 2 weeks. Then it levels off. So it looks like places are taking up to ~14 days to report cases.
for example.... we had 623 new cases yesterday but only 18 were reported yesterday. The rest were backfilled on past days. Ohio is kinda shitty on this part. Maybe other states are too? I don’t know ?
