Good luck finding these apolitical angels to draw congressional districts.

Some states have done it. 538 and Dave Wasserman at Cook have a good series on the latest redistricting. It is possible. We just live in apparently one of the worst states at doing it.

Its a pipe dream.  Politics infects everything.  Giving political cover to elected representatives never ends well.  One of the reasons I have grown to loathe the term "blue ribbon".

I'd rather have a process like Colorado for example than here.

Ohio's process is a joke.

The hope of our system of government is we can have 50 different reasonable experiments.  If some work well maybe it spreads to other states.  Or if all else fails just cry Jim Crow 2.0.

Who is saying Jim Crow 2.0 here in Ohio?

It's bad, and a pure power grab sure. There is a better way, just Republicans don't want to give up power.

Gotta offset all the ballot harvesting somehow.

The Crow only flies in certain states.  Other forms of propaganda and lies are used elsewhere.

Are you saying a political party can rig the system to assure themselves power?  Are you one of those conspiracy nuts?

True. Here, the Dems have been using pretty wild language at times, which is not needed as the maps themselves are outside what the Commission mission and courts directed.

Rig, no. But, political parties have used the redistricting process to favor their own party in elections. The amount of competitive districts has declined dramatically over time. Both cracking and packing are used to filter voters to areas that would benefit one party. Take the current map in Ohio. Republicans are breaking up the urban Democratic areas, cracking, to filter some of them off into larger Republican leaning areas. The breakup near Cincinnati is one example, and the breakup of the suburbs of Columbus is another. The new Jim Jordan District would run from Lima down to the suburbs of Columbus, filtering off democratic voters in a district that will largely go Republicans.

Maryland is guilty of it on the other side. The 1st district, which is the one Republican district in the state, from the eastern shore over to northern MD moved to now the burbs of Baltimore and Annapolis, pretty much killing any chance a Republican has. Where I used to live in Frederick, MD, was drawn in a way to include all of western MD (pretty Republican, and way down into the urban counties). It was the map that was taken up by the Supreme Court some years ago and they declined to rule on it, saying it was a state issue.

Politicians should not be in charge of drawing these maps. It should go to outside groups, with public input throughout, and then approved by the politicians. Some states have started to do this with success. Ohio is just a disaster in comparision to the other states during this process.

Was only about 20 years ago where everything was about the individual, with an emphasis on "gender neutral" or the elimination of gender roles/stereotypes all together.  And now you want to teach kids about gender, specifically so you can expand and re-define it?  All comes back to identity politics as a means to winning elections.

As for teaching sexuality for kids that young...seems like a terrible idea.  Unnecessary confusion/questions for kids who just haven't discovered an interest in the opposite sex yet.  I'm sure a lot of happy parents when their daughter comes home asking about butt sex after Little Tommy asked teacher how two guys make love.

This is both sad, and funny.  Google is being sued for discrimination by - wait for it - a former diversity recruiter (who obviously happens to be black).

Now only 4.4% of employees being black might be a problem for them.  But I imagine the arguments will go something like:

Diversity Recruiter: "you prevented me from doing my job, and the numbers prove it"

Google: "you sucked at your job, and the numbers prove it"

Would only be true if ratings were down....they are up. I switched back and forth between men's and women's all weekend. The Iowa Creighton game was nuts. Also, saw OSU destroy LSU last night to head to sweet 16.

You do you, while I'll watch and see how far Ohio State can go.

While I agree with the sentiment of the original tweet, this account was suspended because it was fake and not the account of Reka Gyorgy
