I have friends who were immigrants, came to this country, and did it the RIGHT way = went through the process and became American citizens. Not a one of them has any empathy for these illegals and, frankly, the whole thing pisses them off.
I have no issue with the aid to people who did it the right way but when we're not taking care of are own, to foot the bill for these people, fuck that...something's VERY wrong.
The "right way". What a bunch of hogshit. When most of our ancestors came here from Europe, you know what the criteria to get in was? Just show up. That's it. Not one thing was required - no money, no lottery, no waiting - nothing. Just get your ass to the front door and you're in with no questions. Often you could do it without even having identification papers.
Now we preaxh to these Hispanics that they can't be here because they didn't do it "the right way". Do you know why they don't do it "the right way"? Because unless you win a green card lottery, which is very unlikely, it cost more money than many of them can make in multiple years, plus they require someone to sponsor them. That is totally impractable.
If the "right way" that is required today was in place when our ancestors fled to come here, many, if not most of us, would be shit out of luck.
