Yeah, I still care, and always have, about what the President of the United States says. Seems to me that it matters as it is offiical U.S. policy.

Yep - embarrasing dumbass.  And killing it...I could go on and on, but it's basically just proof that the POTUS doesn't matter in a meaningful way..............but that even a slight opposition to socialism is bigly good for the country.

Hold on. That doesn't make sense.

If you say the Presidency doesn't matter, then do you not agree that the Executive Branch has too much power? Does the President have too little or the right power?

I swear people on here were yelling to the mountain top that Obama had too much power. Now is it not the case? Did he have no power to begin with?

Which is it?

No not at all....

If it has too much power, it matters...

So, Obama had no power or influence, just so we are sure?

If Trump doesn't matter, then Obama didn't matter. Bush didn't matter or Clinton didn't matter.

Your arguement that Trump does not matter flies in the face of 50 plus years of Executive Branch power.

Trump is the President. At the end of the day, what he says or does matters.

What's really scary is that people actually fell for the Gorilla story. Imagine having TDS so damn bad that you got punked by it.

Well what exactly do you think Obama has left as far as accomplishments?

If you're being honest, POTUS is pretty clearly a figurehead.  Congress has the real power, and aside from checks & balances POTUS has little.  He hires people who hire the people who do the real work.  You seem to be making this argument because of the need to believe Obama did something positive, and that Trump is evil.  Truth is both suck and don't matter.

I used to believe what the POTUS said and did mattered....but after 8 years of Obama and 1 year of Trump I've realized that's simply wrong.

I guess it comes down to do you attribute executive overreach to the president (signing orders, appointing certain people, making the branch bigger, etc) or the departments under the executive branch doing the actual work (i.e. Rogue EPA, Sessions/teh weed, etc).

I personally think it goes hand in hand.  It drove my crazy with Obama, and I am not a fan of Trump signing away EOs every other day either.  Although I can't complain when it comes to anything that involves deregulation or kicking back to congress to do their job.

I don't really care about the book, I won't be buying it.

However, for those who watched the pregame CFB championship - I couldn't help but think "what a puffed up baggage he is!" And then he sort of mumbled his way through the anthem. Nice.

The question wasn't about your thoughts on the book. The question was about the POTUS trying to take away the first amendment.

I think the cease and desist comes off as desperate and it makes it look like the book has more to reveal.  I think reality is the worst came out, so I am not sure why Trump is doing this other than he has an ego.  There has been 100000000x worse reported on him, and it really didn't do much damage.  Not to mention the people who want to read it to get their TDS porn will do so, and the people who want to defend him saying the book is inaccurate will also do so.  It already is happening. I would have just taken the "L" and let his people defend him , which they are already doing (even CNN is picking up on some inaccuracies of the book).  The optics of it all comes off as terrible, but that is par for the course for this current administration.  They could solve world hunger and would fuck it up with a Trump tweet.

That being said, I am not lawyer, but I am pretty sure a cease and desist is not unconstitutional.  In most cases it is a scare tactic, but it's a letter that pretty much says "hey stop doing (insert alleged* illegal activity) or we will take action."   In this case Trump is claiming libel/defamation and is threatening to sue if the book continues to be distributed. It gets murky, because it IS unconstitional for the government prevent any type of publication (i.e. the prior restraint supreme court decision referenced by the author's lawyer), but that is not what a cease and desist is doing.  The letter is pretty standard, and I can only imagine how many are sent to most media companies every year.  There were plenty (and there will be plenty in the future) of cease and desist letters sent during the election for certain political ads.

*I bolded alleged so there is no butt hurt, because the claims of defamation debatable.

Did not save anything, actually made the car industry worse with cash for clunkers and literally stealing thousands of auto dealerships.

Did not "win" the Nobel peace prize; was given it.  And now it should be revoked as we find out.
