I would say more people in America are familiar with a musician with two platinum #1 albums than economists, in general.
Say what you want about what that means for the country.

This is exactly where I went.
If I were to ask virtually anyone around me, multiple times as many would know A$AP Rocky as would know Sowell. I think that's more an "America" thing than anything.

I get what you are saying. Like Trump's limits on travel for about half a dozen nation states with a prevailing religious identity to be a ban on "muslims" affirmed by some federal judges. Or the whole "shithole" countries comment does not bring a conviction of racism. A whole lot of other factors should be looked at before breaking out the anti card.
Conceptually, yes. One can be anti-Israel because they're anti-Semitic, but being anti-Israel doesn't automatically mean you're anti-Semitic. To conflate them is a fallacy of affirming the consequent (If p, then q. q, therefore p.)
If Omar opposes Israel BECAUSE its majority makeup is Jewish, then that's obviously anti-Semitic, but one can oppose Israel for other reasons, which would not be.
Note: I'm not saying Omar doesn't have anti-Semitic sympathies. For all I know, she might. I'm just not going to accuse her of it without knowing more.
Similarly, with Trump's limit on travel to nations in the Middle East, if it was BECAUSE of their religious makeup, then there's at least a level of religious intolerance to it (since Islam isn't a race, it'd be hard to call it racist, technically) ... something government in the US isn't supposed to play favorites on ... but you can certainly ban travel to and from other countries for reasons other than the religious makeup of the population (though I personally think it's still bullshit to tell people where they can and can't travel).
The "shithole countries" thing wasn't racist. It was tactless and even ignorant to a degree (not unlike most of the times I've heard Omar open her mouth) ... but not racist.

This seems silly. I don't believe in treating the nation of Israel as any special kind of ally. Nor, frankly, do I see the justification for taking land from one group of people and handing it to another without the former's consent, which is what caused a lot of the modern conflict.
In that way, I could be said to not like Israel. Of course, it wasn't my land, or my people's land, that was taken, so it would be silly of me to actually get angry at the idea of Israel as a nation, but were it my land, I could see it maybe. Doesn't mean I'd hate an ethnic people group, particularly when there are potentially more in the US than there are in Israel, not to speak of the rest of the world.
I would agree in general, although a debate on the wisdom of something done a full generation before I was born (two in your case) seems to be an academic exercise as opposed to anything truly instructive.
Those who are attempting to school me in understanding the difference between Israel and the Jewish people (I do understand) should go back and review the quotes made by various members of Gal Qaeda. Quotes that are directly aimed at the members of a religion, not a nation. It would be similar to someone dropping an "N-bomb", then saying they can still have credibility in a discussion on race relations.

Oh, I agree that it's completely an academic/philosophical exercise. I have no dog in the fight and wasn't there when it happened.
I don't know if you're referring to me as someone trying to school you or anybody else, but I'm only trying to express that it's possible to oppose a country as a singular entity (even calling it a shit hole or some such) without holding a racist view of people associated (in this case, loosely) with that country.

It's absolutely possible. Right up until one utters an ethnic slur. Then one loses the opportunity to be believed that their motives are pure, and not borne of hatred for the larger group.

That's fair.

His tweet about A$AP Rocky and Kanye makes me lol every time I look at it. What a bizarre situation.

Trump teased a big announcement today. The big news…
He’s selling $99 a piece NFT virtual trading cards. What a clown.

Trump is threatening to sue CNN, citing George Costanza.
His argument is basically that CNN defamed him calling him a liar, claiming - literally - that it's not a lie if he believes it!
Trump isn't President anymore. Will lose "bigly" in '24.
CNN did defame him, along with FOX, MSNBC along with numerous other outlets in all forms. And they are still going after him because he hurt their little feefee's; which ultimately started when he made fun of Mika's facelift. Before that, he had the audacity to win against Hillary. So yeah, media hates him now, to the point of working themselves up into a lather. They made a vast amount of money off of it and that's hard to let go.
Kind of like how Big Pharma made a vast amount of money and power from Covid and now they can't let it go.

I think you’re overestimating how many people still care to argue this stuff.

Probably. But it is fun to hold the broken mirror up to people, sometimes!
