Cardinal Mooney def. Poland 24-7

  • Cmhs74
Should be an interesting week leading up to the game. Many friendships between the two schools. What's everyone think?
  • cmhs_pride
I don't know about friendships....lol. There has been alot of tension as to why or why not these two have not met on a regular basis. I cannot wait for this game.

What I wonder is will we have to seperate RadCard and Panama Jack this week??? :)

By the way, in case some have not noticed, somebody tried to take RadCards name for this new site. Except they put a space between Rad and Card, (Rad Card). Please differentiate between the two because only god knows what will come out of the other "Rad Cards" mouth.

Well this game has been anticipated all year once the new regions were announced, and actually for many years since the schools stopped playing any sports against each other.

Only a distance of about 5 miles separates these schools.

    Series record 0-0

This is obviously going to be a very tough game for the bulldogs as they will come in the heavy underdog. I don't expect Poland to come out and lay an egg like the Hubbard squad this past week. The dogs are too well coached and shouldnt be as intimidated as Hubbard since Big Red has been on their schedule the past two years. I expect a hard fought game and you never know, thats why they play the games.

Bulldogs lets see if we can continue the roll against the region 9 privates!
    week 11 Akron SVSM
    week 12 Akron Hoban
    week 13 Cardinal Mooney

This may be close in the first half but Poland is not going to be able to move the ball. Hoban's defense all but shut them down for the better part of last night's game and Mooney's defense is probably better (Hoban has had an AMAZING D all year).

The real question is if Poland is going to be able to slow down the Mooney offense that is average 37 PPG against one of the toughest schedules in the state. Poland's D has been pretty good (3 shutouts including a good Howland team) but the only team near the caliber of Mooney they've played (Steubenville) won pretty handily. Not huge, but it wasn't THAT close.

This offense is firing on all cylinders and if you slow one guy down, we've got 3-4 more where that came from. Slow down the run, and Zordich showed last night that he can fire the ball on the run and be successful. Don't forget that our D is averaging plenty of PPG on their own, so the offense isn't the only scoring threat you have to stop.

Mooney pulls away in the 2nd, 42-10 Cards win.

Wishing both teams good luck, but I think Mooney wins this one if the first half.
But, then again, games are often 2-half deals. One never knows which team will come out after halftime!

Two great Mahoning Valley programs, but Mooney will be awfully difficult to beat. The very best to both teams.

I hate to be bearer of bad news but here's how I see it...

    Mooney 20-0 after the 1st
    Mooney 41-0 at half
    Mooney 55-3 after the 3rd
    Mooney wins it 55-17

The key for Poland will be to come out believing they can do it. They cant be scared or intimidated. Reardon is going to have to have the game of his life as I think Poland's best chance to move the ball and make plays will be through the air. I'll be pulling for our AAC brothers but best of luck to both teams.

Sorry, Poland, but even though I like to root for the public schools, you're going to be taken out behind the woodshed next weekend.

I'm going to try to make this one, it should be a great game. Let me know if there are going to be any pre-game festivities and at what locale.

One would hope playing at Steubenville this year will be of some benefit to Poland as to dealing with the stage and the hype. Still going to be a tall order - but that's why they play the games. Should be one of the best attended games of the next round. I imagine we are all thinking Fitch for this game.

I will take Monney by 20+

    Fixed that for ya.

Hopefully it is a good game, Poland played two perennially good teams already in the playoffs and played Stuebenville. They shouldn't be scared like Hubbard was.

I watched Mooney practice in the off season often. I had no choice....I was on the other side of the field working. I told Mooney huddlers off the web sites that I don't know how else to say it except it's simple....these kids are as fired up as I have ever seen a group from any school. Their focus is intense, their goal is well defined. Did I mention they are loaded at Running Back. Have you really watched Heard with the ball? I mean really focus on the kid next time he has it. It looks effortless with what he does with it...but think about being in his situation on the field at his age and think about how effortless it would have been for you fellas.....lol. Flat out scary. Zordich is alot better than he gets credit for sometimes. Their line is ridiculous in terms of size and strength.

Their Lb/FB, (Brandonstein) sp?, looks like he eats small animals for breakfast. They may have one of the fastest defensive back fields in the state. Did I mention Braylon Heard? Vinopal, Brown, Kerrington Griffith or is it Griffen??, Lyras does not even start!!!!! The Stoops twins, Leonelli........it's just too much. Right Poland??

You see because there is really no way in getting around one thing. If Poland says to me...yes, you are right.....then the game is already over. But if Poland has every intention on going toe to toe with Mooney, and let's face it guys, the free huddle or jjhuddle is a forum of opinions....and not listen to the OPINIONS on these sites....well I believe we have a game of the century in the making.

The Giant has fallen before. Will it happen again? I don't know Bulldogs, you tell me.

Location has been announced, the battle will take place in Austintown.

Really thought Hubbard would put up a fight, but after seeing them against Mooney, I wonder how they ever won a single game this year. Is the AAC that awful?

I like Mooney by 3-4 TDs in this one.
  • Mooney44Cards
The real question is, if Mooney kills Poland will it also kill any chances of this becoming a regular season rivalry? What if its a great game and Mooney still wins? What if Poland shocks the world and wins? What then? I'm glad this is finally happening but it just emphasizes the need for the powers that be to take their heads out of their asses and schedule this game in the regular season. Poland clearly is not afraid if they can schedule the Big Red IN Steubenville. Clearly Mooney is willing since we are forced to schedule teams from timbuktu to fill a 10 game schedule.

^^^^^Good post, hopefullly this will turn in to an annual game, I know the fans and players want it.

Gentlemen.....Ill post the same thing here as I did on the Poland vs Hoban thread.

These two schools have not played in any sports in recent years for numerous reasons that go beyond an AD's willingness to schedule. You might remember years back in basketball, shortly after Brandon Beachum transferred from Poland to Mooney, Mooney parents were irate with Poland because their student section did a "white out" as the theme....It was a take off on Penn State's student section theme, but many parents of the community were saying that this was an act of racism....Also, the incident 4 years ago outside the testing center of the ACT (college admission exam) - a Poland student was jumped by 4 Mooney students and hospitalized with bleeding within his skull. Prison time was involved with this incident. The animosity between these two schools, numerous fights, and disagreements between parents led to the athletic directors agreeing that these two schools would not meet on the field in any sport during the regular season and would only play if it came down to the playoffs. These two schools just don't like each other and I think that will be evident this Friday. Discrepancies between these two schools were the fault of both school's students, not just one. I'm in no way pointing the finger at Mooney saying their kids are bad kids and that's why Poland refused to schedule them, i'm just saying it was an intelligent decision on both athletic director's part to avoid any possible altercations.

There is a reason these two schools do not play each other in the regular season. It was established 4 years ago by the athletic directors that Poland and Mooney would not play each other in any sport during the regular season due to the actions of the student bodies. I sure hope that no fights break out this Friday between student section members. The incident 4 years ago was an absolute shame and I hope that both schools will be on their best behavior Friday in hopes of reestablishing the possibility of some regular season matchups between these two great schools.

    Mr Bulldog8,

You seem to be missing just a few facts.

    1) Mooney and Poland boys just played a tournament soccer game without incident.
    2) There was only 2 Mooney kids when that incident occurred with the young man from Poland being hurt.
    3) Only 1 of those 2 boys hit the kid and unfortunately he fell and hit his head.
    4) Brandon Beachum had to leave Poland because he was ineligible to play there, period.
    5) You seem to be missing the same "key" word used in both circumstances at the Poland games with Beachum and the night before the incident and the reason the Mooney kid hit the Poland kid at the ACT test. We won't get into that racial remark!

I by no means condone any of this garbage either way, but since you decided to cast the first stone, tell the true facts.
