It made them a WAY different team and when you're playing in week 15 you're clearly playing another great team--you can't afford to be short handed in the state title game.

And you're disrespecting Johnson if you say Coldwater would have beat them in 05 no matter what. I know you love your boy Macon--Johnson was Macon but better in every way. I'm not saying they WOULD have beat Coldwater, but it certainly would have been a hell of a different game.
Better than Macon in every way?
In 05 Coldwater had a young man named Homan who would've had something to say about Johnson!
I saw Johnson in action plenty that year, but you cannot convince me Coldwater would not have won! Coldwater's D that Year was downright disgusting!

Right now we do not need to worry about the state title game, what needs to be on every players mind is week 13 and defeating the Poland Bulldogs. The Cards need to go out and play their game and hopefully they'll come out on top. Tank2Nasty, if they don't run the table I guess the excuse will be that we got beat by a better team that day. But then if we do run the table it will be the same thing we hear after every championship, we recruit. Kind of gets old after awhile, but then when people are jealous of a great football program you learn to live with it. GO CARDS.

Yeah, well, you saw what happened. There are a few Big Red huddlers that get me going a little bit because they're just ignorant (fill in the blank). Just ticked me off that I came in here to talk about this game and I get that response from people that ALSO have no ties to this game. Whatever, it is what it is and it's over. I can't wait to see Mooney OR Poland crush Big Red after the abuse I took trying to defend my hometown boys (and you better believe they were crapping their pants in the bleachers at halftime last week whether they want to admit it or not--well, I already know they won't). It's funny how they talked about that game and now they're talking about this one in the complete opposite manner--because they know they can't beat Mooney. Another thing they won't admit but it's true. It's a shame that there is a new wave of Big Red huddlers that have put the older guys into retirement because they don't want to be associated with them.

I didn't try to convince you of anything, but you can't tell me that it wouldn't have been a hell of a different game. Mooney wasn't nearly as loaded that year as they were in '07, so when their ALL-STATE QB breaks his leg it's no wonder they can't beat a great team like Coldwater. But you can't tell me that Mooney couldn't have won that game with Johnson. And yes, he was better than Macon. Macon actually reminds me a lot of him, but just not quite as good.

Nobody was worried going into half time everyone knew that we were our own biggest competition in that first half!
What makes you think we are scared of Mooney or Poland we beat both teams quite handily the last time we've played them!
No offense to these two great programs but this guy is obviously a sore loser!

Maybe you saw Johnson running a punt back for a touchdown against Homan's Buckeye's this past week?

Well, for most people the entire "us vs. them" mentality of public vs. private is pretty pathetic. I could care less about most other private schools besides Mooney. I like to see Ursuline do well because they are our rival and I have respect for them, but I'm not going to cheer for Elder or St. X or Cleveland Benedictine or Toledo St. Francis DeSales just because they are private. Its kind of ridiculous.

    I'm not tryna offend anyone!
I just always root for publics because
Privates always seem to be leagues better
than most publics, it's always cool to see public
    schools who are that caliber!

While I agree Mooney could have and should have won with or without Dan McCarthy, it's a matter of opinion. But anyone that just comes out and says that he would not have mattered or changed the outcome of a 1 point game, is badly mistaken! His play on defense would have changed that game, not even talking about offense, as Tim Marlowe did an admirable job filling in from his wideout position.

Okay back to the big game Friday night. Mooney vs Poland.

Sincerely, FreeYTOWN (if the mods could change my name, please do so)

Everyone forgets Braylon Heard was Mooney's starting corner for the entire year until he went down with a ACL injury, so he was also missing. Mooney had 2 DB's missing, and 1 playing out of position to replace McCarthy.

That being said, Coldwater did what was needed to be done to win that game.

Another note, their 2 "gadget plays" were executed by their back-up as the kid who usually does that was injured in the first half

It's funny because it's an easy excuse for you guys, but Steubenville is public in name only.

About 55 hours until game time. I have no doubt that the Dogs will be fired up for this game, but I think the most important factor will be the first couple drives of the first quarter. It will be imperative that the Dogs sustain Mooney's early attack so that they can build their confidence, believing that they can hang with this team and that they belong there. I saw a similar thing happen when Poland travelled to Steubenville in week 8. They opened the game with an onside kick that they almost recovered, but Steubenville fired back with a flea flicker that took the ball inside Poland's 15. After that play, it seemed as if Poland went flat and began to doubt whether they could keep up with the Big Red and that mentality seemed to carry over throughout the rest of the game as they showed some signs of success, but just weren't able to close the gap enough. I think if Mooney comes out with a long-sustained drive and capitalizes with 7 points right off the bat, Poland could be in trouble. However, the longer Poland hangs in this game, the more confidence they will build, and the better their chances of victory will be.

That's true. I know Shaq, Jesse, Dwight, Zach, and many of our other star players grew up out on the farms in Richmond OH. 4am mornings, milking cows, plowing the fields...Reno bought them high rise aprtments in downtown Steuby so they could come to Big Red.....Those are not Steubenville boys. ;)
  • SQ_Crazies
They aren't Steubenville boys just like those boys that play for Mooney aren't Youngstown boys...you can't accept it that you can pull in the best talent from your area, and Mooney can do the same but Youngstown whoops Steubenville's behind in football. Just imagine if Mooney REALLY tried to recruit--take the best players from Poland, Campbell, Canfield, Howland, Salem, etc, etc, etc, and add them to what Mooney already has. You can't touch Y-Town football and it kills you so you have to pull out the recruiting line all the time, when everyone and their brother knows Big Red might as well be a private school.
