2013 Orrville Red Riders football

Red RiderGiven what I've read, what I know and last years results I would say that every win we get past week 1 would qualify as an "upset." Stop the presses, the understatement of the year has been uttered.
The enthusiasm over the pre-season concept that we might reach .500 this year is a testament to how far we've fallen (in our own minds).
What I would be most interested in hearing is when the tea leaf readers on this board expects the program to win 6 or more games in a season. You may express that in years or decades...whichever is easier. -

How many times does a team go from 1-9 to 9-1 in consecutive seasons?
5-5 or 6-4 (both results could land us in the playoffs), would quite an achievement in my opinion.
The AOL days are over...so probably no time soon will we be 9-1 or 10-0. Heck even our "really good" teams recently were no better than 7-3.
Since we joined the OCC, we've never been better than 7-3 in the regular season, but have made the playoffs 7 times.
It's a sign that we're the smallest school (by far) in the conference...more than a sign of how far we've fallen. -

So let me get this straight-you support the Indiana Hoosiers right? If you don't go to a game, don't give the boosters money, dont spend money at the concession stand, you are helping them how??? Again I support Orrville athletics by going to the games! Deal with it!RedRider1;1486983 wrote:No problem disagreeing. At least we can do so respectfully. Sorry though..."supporting" the team by saying you buy a ticket then trashing the coach is not a whole lot of support.
That's merely choosing to spend entertainment dollars....not supporting much of anything.
But yes, support is support no matter how small.
And I agree with you about us sneaking up on teams. So important that we get off to a good start and stay healthy.
I think Luke Smith at QB will be a pleasant surprise. He's a gamer and we need that at QB. There are some young kids that will have an impact this year too. As Davault has always said...if you can play, you can play...senior or freshman. -

I'd consider myself a Fan. Not a supporter....but we could play these word games all day. -
BRFI will chime in with my two cents worth that are two cents more than what it's worth:
A fan cheers for (supports) their team.
A supporter is beyond just a fan and gives not only attendance, but money, verbal encouragement and physical help with off the field activities.
And then there are some that go to games, pay their money, buy food, maybe programs and 50/50 tickets (but I doubt it) whose sole purpose for attending is to criticize. And save me the "it's their right" lecture. I know that. But it's MY right to point it out.
Wizard: you say that you have no desire to be drawn into the personal vendettas that exist on this forum. I believe that you do. Just like your response to me on "tl;dr", I say that you know you are.
Go Riders. -
Red RiderFan: A person who knows all of the players names and roots for the team to win.
Supporter: A person who wants all of the players and fans to know their name. -

I will buy that argument but if you are referring to me I can assure you my mission is not to criticize-I cheer on the football team just like you do-when Davault walks Onto the field I Cheer the same - I have no issue here I think some of you make this to b a big deal-I don't know Coach Davault and he doesn't know me. I'm sure he is a good guy. No doubt he and his staff put in a ton of time - any coach that coaches at a high school level or above does-it what they sign up for. This is nothing but a website full of a bunch of guys that have opinions. I am sure Coach Davault could care less what anyone on here says or thinks and for that I am happy for him. As a coach who wants to get on a site with 33 pages of so called fans, supportrs or whatever talkin about he lack of size, talent, speed etc. Good for You Coach do the best you can do with the boys you do have and make Orrville proud!BRF;1487083 wrote:I will chime in with my two cents worth that are two cents more than what it's worth:

Please.
Tell that to the anonymous donor who gave $60k for the new scoreboard or the person or company that anonymously gives the "pay to play" fees at the middle school.
Tell me those people are in it just for the recognition. -

I know that is true. I was not referring to you.Red Rider Nation;1487119 wrote:I will buy that argument but if you are referring to me I can assure you my mission is not to criticize. I cheer on the football team as you do. -
The Wizard of Crown HillRed Rider, I gave up tea leaf reading when Volvo left town but I'm going to predict Orrville gets the 6 wins and returns to the playoffs before the present freshmen have graduated.
BRF, Believe as you wish. My opinion on some things may be different than your own. As upsetting as that may be to you, it doesn't make me part of us vs them mentality that prevails on this forum.
One topic I think deserving of discussion is our new division and region. Forget for a second about Rider chances of making the playoffs. Say we got there, Will D5 northwest region be a tougher road than D5 northeast? Will D5 be any easier than D4? I'm not sure what to think about the latest configuration. All I know is the chances for D1 schools to qualify seem to have gotten better. -

No idea. I say you get to the playoffs first & take whatever is presented. The Wizard of Crown Hill;1487173 wrote: One topic I think deserving of discussion is our new division and region. Coach Davault ha always said a team goal is to make the playoffs & win that first game & you never know what can happen from there.
I'd have to familiarize myself with the regions before talking about any specifics. -

.The strangers whose house I walked into that night were very understanding
I did the same thing more than once, I actually parked in the wrong driveway walked in and sat at the dinner table.... only one problem, WRONG HOUSE! -
sanitizerI also think this team will suprise some people!!!

I never went to the wrong house, but I was sitting in my car in the parking lot after a game and one of my buddy's came to my car door and said are you heading home? I said that was the plan but I did not remember how to get there. He thought I was joking but I was dead serious. He ended up taking me home that night and it is a good thing because I would never have found the place. Films the next morning was very strange, I was watching myself play a game that I could not even remember being at.sanitizer;1487300 wrote:.

This has been an interesting thread to follow, and I'm not even a Red Rider fan (or supporter ). I remember some of my concussions... It almost felt like I was floating, like there was helium in my skull. Can't say I ever went into the wrong house, but I do remember going the wrong direction on my way home. It couldn't have caused too much damage though. I mean, look at me now, a Dr!rrfan;1487318 wrote:I never went to the wrong house, but I was sitting in my car in the parking lot after a game and one of my buddy's came to my car door and said are you heading home? sanitizeryeah, there were a FEW times I actually got lost driving home, one time (after a game) I dropped my girlfriend off at her house and after I left I ended up in Smithville???? That was after hitting a kid from Warrensville Heights in lane 6 or 7 of the track and we went into the fense.... UNDER THE BLEACHERS! LOL!
I don't think any of these stories make me tougher or harder than these kids either, we were just really ignorant to the signs and problems. I can honestly say that I was afraid to complain about ANYTHING because I wanted to be on the field. That is the area where kids can get hurt. There is a difference between being hurt and injured. We were VERY lucky things worked out the way they did, I tell my wife all the time I would be smarter and better at doing dishes had I not been hit in the head so much in my youth! -

I don't wear panties so I wouldn't know about them "bunching". You're too much of a numb-skull for me to ever get upset over.rrfan;1486690 wrote:Amazing how Wizard and Series show up the same day after being gone for months at a time. I am guessing that Series just got his internet turned back on or something...I am kidding Series before you get your panties all in a bunch! There is many ways to support the team, however bashing the coach for unjust things would not be one of them. -

So you schedule a very weak D1 school to play and hopefully get a win so you can hopefully say "whoopee" our little D4/D5 school beat a D1 school, we're great! That really isn't anything to brag about.RedRider1;1486685 wrote:I've heard that Lincoln West wasn't wanting to play us & back in June & tried to back out of the contract. We wouldn't let them unless we had a replacement.
Over the weekend I was told that Lincoln West only had 20 kids out for football and through communication with them it seems like we're of the opinion that we'd rather not play a D-1 team with 20 kids.
John Marshall was suggested as a replacement. It would be a better game. They've played teams close in recent years but its a team we should beat and then it's likely they win 3-5 games which would help us with 2nd level computer points.
I don't know if its official, but if you're hearing it, coupled with the conversation I had over the weekend with our coach & AD, sounds like it might be a done deal. -

Not an Orrville fan, but I think the point is to get some solid first and second level points from that opponent.Series62;1487722 wrote:So you schedule a very weak D1 school to play and hopefully get a win so you can hopefully say "whoopee" our little D4/D5 school beat a D1 school, we're great!
