I don't think that is at all the case. I think it was an opponent and we needed one. I also think that you have to play the game before you know who wins. Teams from Cleveland usually have some very good athletes, if there is a coach that has them coached well they can surprise teams. We are not in a position to have any game already in the W column.

    Hopefully a win....yes.

    Brag...of course
    We're great....always.

    Good post Series!

So what...we've played one of the toughest non conf. schedules in the area forever...and this year we play a big Cleveland team that there is no guarantee of beating and suddenly we're picking on the Little Sisters of the Poor?

    Spare me the fake outrage.

If we're lucky enough to beat this team, it's likely they beat 3-5 other D1 or 2 teams and help our cause for playoff points.

Do you also know we're paying this team several thousand dollars to come here (for the benefit of their likely struggling athletic department) AND feeding their team after the game? Not because we have to..but because it's the right thing to do.

Copley starts their season with Cleveland JFK, Akron Firestone & Akron East. Are they not doing the very same thing (three times)?

I would say we did fair, if you take away the first series I would say we did decent, first no injuries. Offensively, some little short passes 8 to 10 yard routes, had a few drops but nothing too bad, we also ran the ball decent, Keontea did a good job running, there was some nice holes for him, but pretty good mix of throwing and running, but we kept it pretty vanilla, they got pretty fancy on offense, Luke did a nice job throwing, as the game went on I thought the line did a good job getting him time. Defensively so/so I think other then Trevor, most kids are new at their spot or new all together, there was some pressure at times on their QB, but again we keep it pretty simple, the only thing I think stood out, was too much running up the gut, but coach Graber and Haley will get that fix, again three down lineman are new. If you were keeping score we tied with the starters in, I think the young guys would have won if you were keeping score. I would be interested in Old Rider and Red Rider 1 take?

Since my thoughts & opinions are of little value to a few of you, please feel free to skip right over this post.

For those interested in an honest assessment......

Very similar take to yours RiderDad.

Some good, some not...,but nothing that should give anyone real worry.

They gave us a good look and I'm sure vice versa. Minerva runs a lot of misdirection & a lot of the time we had a guy there to make the play, they just whiffed or had no idea the play was coming after shedding their block.

One of their scores was a double inside handoff that was well executed and went for about a 45 yd TD.

Our score against their ones was a TD pass from Luke to Summers. Nice drive with a lot of intermediate passes.

No injuries was nice....and Keontae looked good running the ball. The Domer freshman looks good on both sides. He'll find the field this year. Sooner than later.

Between Zook, Keontae, Domer & the occasional run from Summers...I think we have the ability to really be a good running team.

I only saw one of our throws be of the "deep fade" variety. We shouldn't do that much this year. No home run threat but some good possession receivers.

Overall, A good day. Minerva is way out there. Nice new turf field too.

I think there was some sarcasm in his post.

Easy on the name-calling. Technically, that can be argued to be a personal attack, which is against the rules (sans the "Basement").

Outrage? There is no outrage on my part. From what I've read, Lincoln West does not appear to be a strong D1 team at all. In fact, they appear a very weak D1 team. I guess if you can beat them, the " D1" label is all that matters.

The fact that you're paying them, and now John Marshall appears that since they aren't a regularly scheduled school and Orrville would really like to get a "W" on their turf field, so why not a school that is known to be relatively weak? And, they obviously said, "sure, we'll come, but since you need us more than we need you, the contractual agreement is more likely that the requesting school bear the financial burden. There is earlier conversation on this thread about the financial costs of being in the OCC and traveling to Clear Fork, West Holmes, Mansfield, etc., so why would they want to just up and drive from Cleveland and come to play Orrville?

You really ought to think before making statements like that. You aren't talking to rrfan. And so what, what Copley does it...who's talking about Copley?

Regarding "feeding", I believe most schools do that also!

Why exactly are you calling me out? Also, nobody feeds a team after a game...get your facts strait.

As for the scrimmage.....I though the run game looked good with Keontae and Domer. Had a couple of dropped passes and some missed blocking assignments, but for the most part I thought we looked solid. Defensively we were OK. We wiffed on a few open tackles and got gashed on a couple of run plays (the inside double handoff) was one of them. I think we can expect to see that play in our playbook very soon! The best news was that we stayed healthy and Zook will be back next week.

All in all I thought we looked OK.

Not outrage, just fake outrage...the typical hating on anything the program does.

And like rrfan said, not every home team feeds the visiting team. You think we get fed by the Wooster folks?? LOL. Talk about thinking before you post....

They way I understood it, we looked on the OHSAA website and researched the teams looking for games in week 1 of 2013. There were obviously teams that we were just not going to play. Lincoln West was settled on which has now changed to John Marshall.

Oh and also, both Lincoln West & John Marshall are D-2 schools. With the new 7th division, both dropped down a division.

Congrats to the Riders on a decent showing this week. From the posting about the scrimmage on here and the information I got from some others who attended we looked OK. Still a long way to go but thats the game. What grades are the D line in? They young as well or just first time starters? Most of these early scrimmages are pretty basic and should be.

We need a section called "settling scores" or something, a place were some can go to battle out the obvious grievances they have. You are ALL better than that!

My god men its almost FOOTBALL SEASON!!!! Have some football grace! LOL!

Go Riders... I still hate Wooster and Triway stinks too! LOL!!!!! :)

We could make it a boxing match and raise money for the school or a charity...

O and D lines are inexperienced with a mix of juniors and seniors. Korbin Sprowls is a sophmore playing center. Harrison Brown is the only returning starter on both lines, but the kids that have stepped in have good size and I think they will come together just fine.

Also wanted to add that the Domer boy reminds me so much of his dad when he is running the football. He has the ability to make people miss. He is shifty and quick on his feet. Not mention he also wears Dads #21

It will be hard to keep him off the field. Plays bigger than a freshman.

Again, there is NO outrage, except of course on your part. There's no hating on what the program does, they aren't really doing anything extra special considering the time the team will get back to Cleveland after the game! I would also agree that feeding them is the right thing and a good thing. If I remember correctly, Northwest fed Orrville at the end of the game last year.

Does Orrville do the "right thing" and feed Wooster? Isn't it strange how they looked on the OHSAA website and out of all the schools they always come back with either Lincoln East, Lincoln West or John Marshall? I believe Orrville has played them before in football and I know they have in basketball.

    Indeed!

What you may have seen was OUR parents feeding OUR kids after the game.

Seriously doubt it was anyone with Northwest....and seriously doubt that happens with any of the teams on our schedule.

And yes, up to this year LW & JM were D-1, but just the same as we dropped to D-5, they dropped to D-2.
