2013 Orrville Red Riders football

Not sure what you are reading, I would rather stay where we are. That was my point.iced earth;1382707 wrote:You guys are kidding yourself if you think it's a good idea to go the independent route now. The landscape of Ohio football is way different now than it was even 10, 15 years ago. Filling a 10 game schedule will be almost impossible, just ask Steubenville or Ursuline. And the gates will be horrible, filled with long travel times and Saturday games. You will have a schedule that is half way too easy, and half way too hard. You are a D4 school that had 37 kids go out last fall. You don't need to be playing that Cleveland Knights team Rittman played last year, and you don't need to be playing St. Ed's either. -

I don't see that happening.iced earth;1382710 wrote:Hillsdale is in extreme fiscal emergency, and is in danger of a merger or being absolved in the next couple years. If a spot comes open in the WCAL, Orrville and Triway will both try to jump on it. -
RIDER DADJust curious, to hear from regular ORRVILLE posters, what your choice
1. OCC
2. WCAL
3. PAC
4. Independent
or 5. other -
rrfanI think my opinion is pretty clear I want to stay in the OCC.
I would not look at the WCAL at all.
If we have to go somewhere I would be Okay with the PAC
I think Independent would make to much work for the AD and I don't think that would be an option. -
thePITmanI know I'm not from Orrville, but I'll throw this out there. We were independent my Senior year, and it SUCKED! We didn't have Orrville OR West Holmes (our 2 biggest rivals) on the football schedule.

We were independent for almost all of the 90's and it worked out just fine (Kent Smith probably disagrees) but we won several State Championships in that period so I think the scheduling nightmares were quickly forgotten! I would like to see us move to the PAC, but if staying in the OCC turns out to be the only option then so be it. The WCAL makes the most sense but it will NEVER happen.thePITman;1383478 wrote:I know I'm not from Orrville, but I'll throw this out there. We were independent my Senior year, and it SUCKED! RedRider1I want a conference that wants us...right now that's the OCC.
WCAL would be best economically and geographically...but ain't gonna happen.
I think we stay in the OCC for now. If they seek westward expansion, I think that's when we get out...or are asked to leave. I'm sure they know it's not a perfect fit for us. -
RIDER DADI know it would never happen, but here is my perfect world conference,
Orrville, Triway, West Holmes, Wooster, Northwest, Wadsworth, Ashland, last one could be Clear Fork, Tuslaw or Barberton. I doubt there is enough of the outside sports, swimming, lacrosse etc, for Wooster. -
RedRider1I almost did a "dream conference" in my last post....
Nice list. 4 big schools, 4 small schools. -
Old RiderIt will be interesting to see if Northwest gets voted into the PAC in the future. The Daily Record article today mentioned that NW's AD is also the PAC commissioner. If memory serves me correct, the old AOL ended because schools like Northwest, Manchester, Triway, and Fairless getting tired of Orrville winning the league all the time. Now Northwest wants to be in league with us again...??? I'll believe it when I see it. There is absolutely NO WAY that Triway, Manchester, Fairless and Northwest want us in their league...no way!
-
CCRollyYet there are plenty of people in the OCC who want Orrville in the league...
-
FlashAll the schools that beat us in the regular league games want us. I believe Triway and Northwest want us in a league. Northwest more than Triway.

Hopefully the Riders and the Bears can turn it around next season!1_beast;1385419 wrote:Such a shame... -
riders1I would have to say that at this time I would seriously consider other leagues which are comparable sizewise and travel friendly and definitely would hate to have a league spread out like we did when we had Marion and Vermilion. Those trips were killers and we need to stay within 1 hour travel times. So for now I would choose
1. OCC
2. PAC
3. Other new league ( an OCC, PAC and independent mix)
4. Independent
5. WCAL ( No matter how down we are now, this would not be a good fit for year in and year out competition.) -

I agree but back in the Indy days we really had swag (or thought we did) LOL! Should be an interesting year. I wonder how many conference titles the Ville won in the AOL days???? I bet it was a bunch.Never said I wanted to be independent again...just enjoyed it when we were. Your right....The most logical seems to be the WCAL for the Riders. -
Old Rider
The AOL began in 1983 and ended in 88. Thats 6 total seasons and we won the league title in 84', 85', 86', 87', and 88'. Ironically, we did not win it in 83' which was our first state football championship appearance.sanitizer;1387752 wrote:I agree but back in the Indy days we really had swag (or thought we did) LOL! We were in the OAC (pretty much the current PAC) from 76 thru 82 prior to the AOL. We were OAC champs in 76, 77, 78, 80, 81. Thanks redridersportsblog.com!
Yes, we had SWAG (80's and 90's) and I think that helped create some of the hate that local teams have towards the Red Riders! Plenty of wins, success in the playoffs, State Titles, hogging all the space in the sports page..... -

Old Rider, you are old and forgetful! AOC not OAC! I also think in the mid 70's the league was called the Cardinal Conf.Old Rider;1387798 wrote:The AOL began in 1983 and ended in 88. Man those are the good old days. We had swag for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Fun times. -

Yep...typo. Good catch. And yes, we were in the Chippewa Conference prior to the AOC in the 60's and mid 70's.redright21;1387944 wrote:Old Rider, you are old and forgetful! AOC not OAC! I also think in the mid 70's the league was called the Cardinal Conf. -
sanitizerThanks "Old Rider", I knew the numbers were pretty impressive. I remember my old man calling it the "All Orrville League". Times change that is for sure. I remember playing some of the wayne county schools in Basketball (especially pre season scrimmages), Smitty would go CRAZY on us if we lost or loafed! My god do you remeber scrimmaging the slink ball club? I remember Snyder giving up baseline to Deno and Smitty stopped the scrimmage and ran us for almost an hour and a half. The slinkballers just kind of hung around and watched! I think half of us were thinking about heading to the club to try out!!! LOL. I remember not loosing a dual or triangular track meet to a wayne county school for like 6 or 7 years? It was crazy! The Ville will be just fine, it always seems to have a way of taking care of itself.
