2013 Orrville Red Riders football

I agree...we definately should have been running the ball against Triway, but I think Coach has this love affair with throwing the ball and last year was not a good year to use that offensive philosophy IMO.Series62;1467007 wrote:Let's say it this way...the Red Riders football team had a very good chance of being at least 2-8 last year and had at least one victory on their brand new turf...if...if...the coach or coaches could have recognized that small offensive line included, Triway could not stop the run! One rb had 6 runs for 72 yards in one possession and scored a TD, Old Rider stated the week before the game that Triway couldn't stop the run, West Holmes ran for +450 yards against Triway, did Orrville not have scouts at that game, didn't any coaches at least read the stats in the paper that Saturday after, but your illustrious coach didn't seem to have a clue or maybe he didn't care. How many of the football team do you really think missed that coaching malfeasance? Perhaps the coaches didn't have any "dog" in them either and therein, the students probably were doing what they were taught!
You obviously don't know what type of parent we are! The one and only time I spoke to Coach Davault was because of the blatant unfairness received by my son. After that, he played on the team until the end of the season. My comment to him was, "whether you do or do not play football again in your Junior year, I will support you". His sophomore year he went to "state" in track, competed in the finals in 4 events, same thing his Junior year and as a Senior, to the finals at "state" in 3 events.
I'm not for being "soft" on a student/athlete...I believe in hard work, being fair and doing what is right!
Yes, they have to want it, and work hard to get it and as long as favoritism is obvious...I'm not complaining, I'm stating the obvious!
Knute Rockne would have gotten them to play for him also!
As far as seeing playing time as a soph (in reference to your son) I have no idea what year he was in school, what position he played, or who the classes were above him, but I can tell you from my experience and MANY other former Red Riders, getting playing time as a soph typically came in the form of special teams and mop-up duty as the final minutes ticked away. I know SO MANY former Riders that didn't even letter as a soph simply because they had guys in front of them (jrs/srs). I am not saying a frosh/soph isn't worthy of playing time and I know Coach D has made that plenty evident that if you can compete on Friday nights, then you will play...regardless of age.
I would say that in your son's case he was probably much better suited on the track and I think his accomplishments speak to that! -

REDRIDER555I miss the days when 5 knots would talk smack to the otherteams, quote stats, and talk about anything good, if you 6 or 7 guys (not sanitizer) posting on here have notnotice, some of the regulars are gone, I don't think any players parents post like they use to, it's kind of disheartening. Yes last year was not what we wanted, but we seem to paint every one with the big paint brush of laziness, I am sure there are some kids working hard just like there is every year. Can we get back to football talk, let's have some positive talk or argue what offense or defense we want to see. But for crying out loud, private message each other if you want to complain about; smuckers, levy, how the town sucks, and what a stud I was in the90's and how the third string would start on this team, now that's a teambuilding comment, If I am a opponent am loving this and if I am a player tell me how that one motivates me. Please give me back; 5-knots, riders1, Brf ,Flash, Rider Dad, or more Sanitizer. I miss the old football thread.

Without this stuff we have nothing to talk about..It is July 2nd. For the record the old "tell me how that one motivates me" sounds awfully like you are one of the parents that wants all kids to get a blue ribbon. Put on your big boy pants and then teach your kid how to do the same. The lesson learned in sports shaped many young men for the real world. These kids need to understand if they don't want a season like last year the only thing that can change that is what they do in the offseason. Nothing said on here matters. However, if this talk was going on about me or my team I may never have left the weight room and I could bet that about 25 other guys on my teams would have lived in there also. Oh wait that was in the 90's again sorry.REDRIDER555;1467093 wrote:I miss the days when 5 knots would talk smack to the otherteams, quote stats, and talk about anything good, if you 6 or 7 guys (not sanitizer) posting on here have notnotice, some of the regulars are gone, I don't think any players parents post like they use to, it's kind of disheartening. Sad but true. Just ask Series he is on the committee of sucking the life out of any tradition that could hurt feelings. It is people like that that don't want to keep score so the other team does not know how bad they suck. It is a joke and a sad state of affairs. This is not directed at Orrville it is happening everywhere today.

No, to the season tickets! I may attend an occasional home game, that's all, and even then, I have a friend that can get me in on a gate pass! WoooHooooo!!!
there is no stupid tradition...just stupid people. I hang a dummy. Im not an Orr guy...but wth does it hurt to tang a dummy? Dont give me this race BS. You've never heard me speak against shedding drills or any of that type of activity.
As far as the "hanging the dummy in the square all day"...
When I met with the Supt. and the school board members, there were three of us that spoke against a "tradition" that in the end looked rather shameful in this day of "civilized men"! Ask your Supt. and the late Coach Smith's wife!
Again, if that "tradition", the only one I have had issue with, is such a landmark, why don't you and all that miss it so much form a committee and petition the managers of PNC Bank, the credit union across the street, First National Bank, Heartland Point, etc, and the school board itself and see how they feel about supporting what looks like a lynch mob in front of their place of business.
And if you fail there, you can always hang a dummy from your front porch or tree at your house and have activities! No one can stop that "tradition". Until then, give it a rest and go sit in the corner and cry as you've obviously become "soft" too! I understand that "your feelings are hurt" rrfan, however I doubt that it's going to change!
What showed on the field last year is not a result of not having your stupid tradition, it is a result of the coaches not being able to motivate and teach the team and making poor play calls that most of the team probably recognized as such.
you were NOT West Holmes...LOL...nice you admit that you cried to the coach 1 time that lil "ocho cinco" wasnt getting enough PT...lol. Soccer Mom? In one possession, Orrville exposed it again, however, the Orrville head coach and/or coaching staff missed it and insisted on passing. sanitizerFootball Question...
Were do you guys see our largest need for players to step up this year? I know the answer may be all over but if you had to list where you would see us needing the most improvement?????
I understand QB may be the largest question.... What else? Do we have a few kids who can catch? Over the years I have seen that it isn't always the fastest kid who gets the most catches in the system, can be the combination of a smart QB and a kid that knows where to sit in the soft spots of a zone? How deep to we look at RB (Although this may be kind of a lost position in this offense)? Do we have anyone we can count on for 15 carries a game???
And how about the defense? Old Rider, got any news at LB???? Any hidden hitters ready to step up this year?
Not being in the Ville anymore I just want to try to get to know this team a little before the season starts... -

Viva la RidersI recently moved back to my hometown, Orrville after an eleven year hiatus. Well, college, first job, a kid, etc. But I am happy to be back home. The town has changed, I watched a couple of games last year on the new turf field, pretty awesome to have turf now, I played on the old grass LOL.
I ran into this site by running a Google Search on Orrville Football this popped up, I find this very interesting a forum for fans to bash the kids and the coaches. Not sure how comfortable I am in participating in this but I will give it a shot.
How do we look for 2013? I can't seem to get a clear picture based on some of the comments made here. Let's have an honest evaluation of the team. Will we make the play offs again? Go .500? Any studs I should keep my eye on? How does the league look? Last I heard we were in The OCC, is that still correct?
Anyway, let's get this started, let's talk some Orrville Football!!! -

Certainly starts at QB...We have two good LB's returning in Zook and Summers. I think the largest needs are at offensive/defensive lines and at WR. We also struggled with PAT's last year, so I guess we need a kicker. As far as some of the youngsters/newcomers I have to be honest, I don't know many of them. Whats your name and what year did you graduate? Did you play football? ....you can tell me all that later...but welcome back to Orrville. Still in the OCC, league is always tough. Kids to watch would be Joel Zook(RB/LB), Trevor Summers(FB/LB), and Harrison Brown(O/D lines). There are some new names/faces that will have to step up this year. Playoffs???........NO! I have lived out of state to answer your question. And I understand the passion associated with Orrville football. I want to go check out this Red Rider Sports Blog when I have time. Antone know who all contributes to that? And do they accept submissions? I could write some stuff on football for the games I am able to attend, just an offer if you know who to contact.
I am headed out to the carnival tonight, I have missed the buzz of this town this time of year.

What is the "primary" defense brother? Two backers is a pretty good place to start if your running a 50 but I am sure the 50 as a base package has been out for a while with all the spreads and passing most teams seem to be doing these days. See a lot of 4-3 and 3-4 out there usually. ANY word on a potential QB or someone moving positions to do it? That seems tough on the young ones coming up? I always remember people talking about one or two youngsters to watch out for even when I ws out of state for a while...... That may be telling? Sounds like we have a little better base to build off of on the defensive side of the ball? In the kind of offense the riders seem to execute these days some "catchers" are needed for sure. No more "student body right" and "student body left" or "RIP 80 right pitch right on the number"! Your thoughts and others evalutation of the ability to run in a few games last year seems worthy of discussion. Anyone on the team you see up to the task of handiing the rock on a consistance basis? Hope some of those young lineman put in some work in the coming months. We have been using a more zone blocking scheme in recent years if I am not mistaken? That can have an impact on how effective your running game can be. Need the right hogs for old school blocking. LOL!Certainly starts at QB...We have two good LB's returning in Zook and Summers.
