2013 Orrville Red Riders football

Coach Haley runs a mix of 50 and 3-4 on defense, but likes to stunt!! "Double Barrel" as you would remember it LOL! The QB looks to be Luke Smith(jr) at this time and the RB will probably be Zook, with Summers lead blocking. I believe the O-line coaches want to get back to some of the older schemes when we pulled guards and tackles, reach blocking, etc...we will se if that pans out. We have several WR's coming back with Ritchie, Coleman, Chandler Smith, and Ballinger, but combined they may have 10 catches at the varsity level and that number is generous, however all 4 of the WR's I mentioned are Seniors....I would expect to see atleast 6 seniors on each side of the ball...but thats just a guess. Again, the key to this season is staying healthy.
Thanks, two good backers seems like a good start! We get one or two of those WR's to step up, learn some coverages and who knows???? Some of the best all time recievers from the Ville were not always the most gifted athletically. Little smarts and cohesiveness with the QB and there ya go. Sounds like it should be interesting. :)

Pain is temporary, glory is forever and chicks dig scars!!!! Is it football season yet?????

As every year when the 4th of July is done Team Conditioning begins! It is getting close and the pads cracking are not far away.

Maybe some RED crocs will be incentive enough...I doubt we see him on staff anytime soon.

Saw him at the parade and I'm glad I threw him a "Vote for the renewal pencil" now. His sister lives in town also.

Mike McCreary could possibly be your next Coach Mac!

First football 7-on-7 is this Thursday at Massillon, 9am or 10am...sometime in the morning.

For a chuckle...read this article about Dover getting turf. Read the comments left in the voicemail of the local paper. We heard some of the same ignorant comments last summer when we raised funds for turf.

Here's the money quote from the article:
The money is completely donated through private donors. These same private donors worked their butts off trying to get a levy passed and you guys voted it down.
Bingo!! The same families that support efforts such as these on the athletic side are the same folks who form committees to get levies passed or plan prom or feed teams after games or volunteer their time working concession stands or hand out programs at the drama club play.

That is an awesome quote. It is so true...

He looks good. Lets see what happens still pretty early to judge the kid.

You mean young adult, not kid right?

Massillon always seemed to have seemingly older kids playing for their middle school teams.

Remember playing Lorin Andrews & Longfellow in jr high? The running back for Longfellow my 7th grade year had a mustache...no joke.

Yeah, he looks like he is about 15-16 years old as an 8th grader. My guess would be that the parents held him back (once or twice) to better his chances in high school of landing a scholarship?? Actually, I kind of like that idea....and with 4 boys of my own....HHMMMMM????

Never really been that impressed with a bigger kid outrunning or running over smaller less mature kids at that age? Seen it LOTS of times and usually the end result is other kids catch up and then its GAME ON! I could give a list of a few kids from Orrville who were STUDS in Jr. high but didn't even play ball once high school came around because they didn't want their head cracked. The real relevant questions are work ethic and desire to continue to get better. If his age and stats are factual then it is clear he has the physical tools to do whatever he wants. What is between the ears is what may make or break him so to speak. I do like the footwork and the delivery for now, little side arm on a few of those longer throws but that can be fixed when his musculature growth catches up to his long levers and tendons. It is obvious that someone is working with him on those skills. Definately be a kid to watch coming out of a city that plays some pretty good football. I won't question his age because I don't know but I can only assume people are being honest until given a reason not to believe them?

Is anyone going to the first 7 on 7????

Not at 9am....gotta feed the family first.

That may happen on its own...fingers crossed.

Glad to hear Kent is staying on as AD. He's worth much more than the $7500 stipend they're paying him.

Even if you only count 9 months of the year school is in at 40 hours a week (He works much more than that) he's getting less than $5/hr for a job that requires a masters degree.

I'm sure with the way things are in town right now, some folks would say that's $4/hr too much.

Definately shows his dedication to Orrville City Schools and all of our student-athletes. I also heard he turned down a VERY NICE salary increase to take the AD role at Wadsworth, but opted to stay here....Hats off to Kent Smith!!!
  • CCRolly
The AD role at Wadsworth could be a suicidal position at the moment if they do jump to the Federal League. Good decision by Kent.
  • rrfan
That is Kent doing the school system a big favor IMO. Most...well I can't name anybody else who would have done that. I am not the biggest supporter of Kent, but on this one he is stepping up. I am not sure why...
  • RedRider1
I think because he's familiar. With the job, the people & the school.

It sounds corny but he's a Red Rider too.

Probably didn't want to learn an entirely new school & system for a few years before he fully retires.

Anyone hear how the Riders looked at the 7 on 7 in Massillon today? Was anyone from Orrville even there to watch?

Nobody from Orrville even goes to the real games
