2013 Orrville Red Riders football

FlashLook at the post before yours and thats who manages the blog. He has a big staff and budget that helps him turn out (on occassion) one of the best reads on Orrville sports.
-
RedRider1My staff has been terribly lazy of late...
Check out the blog when you have time Viva. I'd be interested in your thoughts on it.
In volleyball news, 2008 grad Whitney Dalessandro is the new varsity vball coach. -
FlashThe BOE did walk in the parade and passed out pencils that said vote for the renewal levy in August, that is no new taxes. I sharpened a few and only had to stab one or two watchers before everyone else behaved.

CCRollyJust what we need...another Orrville poster. Hopefully this guy has a bit more common sense than some of the other ones. Another Wooster poster is LONG over-due. Go Woo!

Old Rider
Coach Haley runs a mix of 50 and 3-4 on defense, but likes to stunt!! "Double Barrel" as you would remember it LOL! The QB looks to be Luke Smith(jr) at this time and the RB will probably be Zook, with Summers lead blocking. I believe the O-line coaches want to get back to some of the older schemes when we pulled guards and tackles, reach blocking, etc...we will se if that pans out. We have several WR's coming back with Ritchie, Coleman, Chandler Smith, and Ballinger, but combined they may have 10 catches at the varsity level and that number is generous, however all 4 of the WR's I mentioned are Seniors....I would expect to see atleast 6 seniors on each side of the ball...but thats just a guess. Again, the key to this season is staying healthy.sanitizer;1467534 wrote:What is the "primary" defense brother? Two backers is a pretty good place to start if your running a 50 but I am sure the 50 as a base package has been out for a while with all the spreads and passing most teams seem to be doing these days. See a lot of 4-3 and 3-4 out there usually. ANY word on a potential QB or someone moving positions to do it? That seems tough on the young ones coming up? I always remember people talking about one or two youngsters to watch out for even when I ws out of state for a while...... That may be telling? Sounds like we have a little better base to build off of on the defensive side of the ball? In the kind of offense the riders seem to execute these days some "catchers" are needed for sure. No more "student body right" and "student body left" or "RIP 80 right pitch right on the number"! Your thoughts and others evalutation of the ability to run in a few games last year seems worthy of discussion. Anyone on the team you see up to the task of handiing the rock on a consistance basis? Hope some of those young lineman put in some work in the coming months. We have been using a more zone blocking scheme in recent years if I am not mistaken? That can have an impact on how effective your running game can be. Need the right hogs for old school blocking. LOL! -
RedRider1Luke is just a sophomore right?
And I don't think Ballinger is playing. Heard dad wasn't happy about something last year. -

5knotsI'm still here....like it or not, haha. Some things never change. 1 constant in life is that if your kid doesn't play it is because the coach is wrong. I'd probably feel the same way as a parent. It is ok to look after your kid in my book.
I have watched as much practice as most of the coaches up until last year. Observing the kids and the coaches. Offering to aid in any non coaching way as to the needs of the team. One thing I can assure all of you is that the kids who show it on the practice field will play Friday night. You cannot get any more fair than that. Some times it will cost you a ball game not playing a kid because he decided he was too tired to come to practice during the week and those in the stands will assume he is sitting because the coach is an idiot or the coach is playing his favorites. Ho Hum...same old stuff. this coach plays kids who deserve the time on the field...yes there are some kids who put forth all the effort in the world and because of the depth chart will not see much playing time, but with numbers as low as ours that is rare. It does happen though and I know that is the hardest thing for this Head coach to deal with
We were blessed with a string of football talent we had not seen for a while. Hiller set records in the MAC, Simmons at Ohio Northern, Brenner at Ashland, Hoobler started in the B1G as a redshirt froshfor Indiana , Priman went to Nebraska, and Monheim went from prepping for Triway to getting ready for Monte Ball, Denard Robinson, and Braxton Miller, less than a year later as a true freshman MLB for Illinois. That is just a few names. We still have a ton of talent in Orrville just not a ton of football players right now. I am pulling the Riders as always. -

Who let this joker in? Why don't you generals worry about your own team, and not what is going on in Orrville. RedRider1More coaching news: Brent Steiner is your new varsity wrestling coach.
I like that they had an entire float for the wrestling program in the parade last night. Good team bonding event & brings some pride to the program.
Football kids carried levy signs, state track qualifiers rode in a truck & the band/cheerleaders marched.
Good stuff all around. -

LOL...Were you in the hoods of Chicago? Prefessional school for slow people? Why would you come back to Orrville?Viva la Riders;1467489 wrote:I recently moved back to my hometown, Orrville after an eleven year hiatus. Well, college, first job, a kid, etc. But I am happy to be back home. The town has changed, I watched a couple of games last year on the new turf field, pretty awesome to have turf now, I played on the old grass LOL.
I ran into this site by running a Google Search on Orrville Football this popped up, I find this very interesting a forum for fans to bash the kids and the coaches. Not sure how comfortable I am in participating in this but I will give it a shot.
How do we look for 2013? I can't seem to get a clear picture based on some of the comments made here. Let's have an honest evaluation of the team. Will we make the play offs again? Go .500? Any studs I should keep my eye on? How does the league look? Last I heard we were in The OCC, is that still correct?
Anyway, let's get this started, let's talk some Orrville Football!!!
Who is Monte Ball or Denard Robinson?5knots;1467589 wrote:I'm still here....like it or not, haha. Some things never change. 1 constant in life is that if your kid doesn't play it is because the coach is wrong. I'd probably feel the same way as a parent. It is ok to look after your kid in my book.

serious question here what makes you think we could possibly be four and 0 . what kind of talent are we returning from a 1and 9 team . not to mention the loss of our entire starting back field this year . triways quarterback will probably eat us alive . I hate to say this but I think probably 1&3 to start the year .I'm not even sure we'll beat that Cleveland team because they will probably be loaded with speed .RedRider1;1466528 wrote:Cleve Lincoln West better be a win
Triway & Northwest are winnable but will be a toss up....as will Lexington.
It's no stretch to be 4-0. But start me off 1-0 & healthy and take it from there.
Weeks 5, 6 & 7 will be the gauntlet as always. At Senior, At West Holmes & home to Ashland.
I think best case after week 7 is 4-3....and I don't think that's being overly optimistic.
Imperative we stay healthy or we could easily be 1-6. -

If we drop that one, it's going to be a really long season. Lincoln West didn't win any games, or maybe one, in a league that is really weak other than Glenville.Troll King;1468331 wrote: .I'm not even sure we'll beat that Cleveland team because they will probably be loaded with speed .
I really hope we not only win, but make a statement in that one.
Lose to Lincoln West and we might as well start scheduling whoever gets last place in the WCAL. At least the gate would be better. -
riders1Lincoln West is probably 1 of the worst teams in the Cleveland Senate league. Collinwood is one of the few teams they beat more than once in the last 13 years as they have won 13 games total in the last 13 years, winning 3 in 2009 , their best season lately, with 3 winless seasons in the last 6. Overall 13 and 114 in 13 seasons since 2000.

I assume that even though they're not a very good team usually , they will probably be loaded with speed . we seem to struggle against teams that have a lot of speed . I just can't be very optimistic about this years team with the loss of talent we've had already . I hope I'm wrong but 1 & 9 or 2 & 8 could be wishful thinking .riders1;1468431 wrote:Lincoln West is probably 1 of the worst teams in the Cleveland Senate league. Well we beat NW last year and we had the Triway game right there to win...
I can't seem either team being better than last year...so we have a shot. Carmichael will be better for Triway, but they graduated some of his targets too.
We beat Lincoln West & the next 2 are realistically winnable. Not saying we will, but we won't be overmatched.
That's how I think it's more than a pipe dream that we could be 3-0. Could be...
Lincoln West tried to get out of this game last month, we said no since it was within 90 days of the game and we wouldn't be able to find a replacement.
From what I was told, their own coach doesn't think they can compete and said as much in communicating with Kent to try & get out of the game.
And I doubt they'll have much discipline, by now, any kid from that school's area with any talent is suiting up for Glenville. -

Sad that we are at this point. Talking about winning a game that really is a must win for the Riders. I have always felt bad when we played schools like that, I still want to win and win comfortable but it is still sad.RedRider1;1468850 wrote:Well we beat NW last year and we had the Triway game right there to win...

CCRollyI heard that Mike McCreary is indeed moving to Orrville. Odds that he joins DeVault's staff are good IMO.

Is he willing to work for free? That is the only way I see that happening. No money to pay more coaches, and they don't get paid like they should anyhow. The time they put into the job would shock many. Probably get paid about 10 cents an hour when all said and done.CCRolly;1469155 wrote:I heard that Mike McCreary is indeed moving to Orrville.
