2013 Orrville Red Riders football

QUOTE]There are only 2-3 Wooster posters that post on here very often, so you may have a problem finding that thread. Wooster has some good athletes returning this season, but it will boil down to the line and if the defense can finally come together. Would be nice to have a good RB to count on also. Tough non-league schedule of Medina Highland, Wadsworth, and Chagrin Falls should get us ready for the OCC.
    [/QUOTE]

Sounds like a grinder to me, the truth is that EVERY public football program has its "hard" years. Just happens, I like to watch how coaches and communities respond, really says a lot about its lasting strength. With teams using more spread formations and the way the game itself is changing having good athletes with solid football intelligenc is more important than ever. I remember playing a good Mansfield team with two RB's with 800 yards each in like game 5 or 6. We held them to -7 yeards combined........ BUT the team ended up throwing for over 300 yards! You have to be balanced on both sides of the ball these days unless you are just that much bigger and stronger? Looks like there is going to be a few storylines to follow this year. Good luck,

Now with that said I must refer back to the Red Rider in me and say Wooster stinks! ;)

Of course it has always gone the other way...can't beat em, join em. Go Riders!
  • CCRolly
So what you're saying is that you won't be recruiting any Wooster kids for the next 10 years or so??
  • RedRider1
We've never recruited any Wooster kids...they're choosing to come here.

And the door does swing both ways...Mason Tomblin's dad was an OHS grad...but there was never a transfer involved I don't think.

We should be improved. Schedule has some rough teams along with some stinkers. We return most of our skill set but need to replace some lineman. Week 3 should be interesting. Kinda odd it's not week 1 anymore

Correct...nothing worthy of a Rider uniform!
  • RedRider1
Word is Tavy Dyson has transferred to Wooster. That makes 3 kids from last year's team who have transferred. Bryce Short (McKinley), Kayron Robinson (Massillon) & now Tavy.

All 3 would have been 2-way starters this year most likely.
  • Coach_08
^^ To piggy-back off your last statement RR1, all 3 were the starting backfield on the offensive side of the ball. Bryce QB, Tavy and Kayron RB's. Hard to replace that.
  • RedRider1
    Yep...

I heard Tavy's grandmothers home was bought by Smuckers as part of another one of their expansion projects.

That kind of stinks if true.

Bryce would have played for sure but I am not sure it would have been at QB. Either way it hurts to loose those three on a team that is short on talent.

    Thanks a lot Smuckers!

Don't worry...I'm sure several dozen of their employees will be building here in town very soon. All have several athletic kids too.

    LOL.

How many homes have they torn down in the last few years? Has to be 20 or so. That's 20 less homes available in town for families.

How many upper management of the school live in Orrville? I am just throwing that out there, but I don't think one principal lives in Orrville. They can't even vote for their own levy. I really don't think we should be talking about Smuckers in a negative way. They do way more for the community than most know.
  • RedRider1
The super does..but I don't think any other do.

Like it or not, we're not a desirable community to live in for the young professional (single or just married & no kids).
  • Old Rider
You mean...two "average" restaurants, Audrey's Attic, Heartland Point, and now Market Place Orrville doesn't attract people to our town??? That can't be!! ....well, atleast we have three auto stores, a million pizza places, Lola Cheech and Mouis, and freshly painted bowling alley!

When they tore down the "main stop" ice cream stand it all started going down hill!!!!

I say BRING BACK MAIN STOP! That will bring people in by the hundreds! Ya know many of the reasons Smuckers likes being HQed in Orrville are married to the reasons many young professionals don't see much advantage. Interesting irony? Perhaps. If Smuckers was not in town the tax base would be GONE!

Three starters leave the Ville to go elsewhere...... Who needs em! Lets go fellas! I would be trying to make a point this offseason if I was a Red Rider.

    Good luck boyz!!!

We will be fine w/o those guys...just sucks because numbers are already low and the last thing we need, besides kids not coming out, is kids transferring...oh well!
  • RedRider1
2 months until first football game. Wow. Time sure does fly.

I think the key this year is staying healthy. Before we can even talk about the finer points, we really need our key guys to stay well.

I hope coming off 1-9, things can't get much worse....

could get a little worse...0-10. How many times has that happened in Orrville history?

We may be in for a lean year on the gridiron. It would be nice to get a few wins on our turf and spoil Triway's debut on theirs. It's definitely gonna be tough sleddin' in the OCC. I think we may beat Lexington & Clear Fork. The conference gets alot tougher after that.

Being optimistic, I think 4-5 wins is doable. Realistically, I fear it may be more like 0-2.

I would like to hear some other fans thoughts on this seasons possible victory total and dare I say,------ playoff chances.
  • Old Rider
If we can get off to 2-1 or 3-0 heading into the OCC then I will say 5 wins is a possibility. Steal a win or two in the league against the right opponent and 6 wins could get us into the playoffs...However, 0-10 is a possibility.
  • sanitizer
    6 and 4!
  • RedRider1
Cleve Lincoln West better be a win
Triway & Northwest are winnable but will be a toss up....as will Lexington.

It's no stretch to be 4-0. But start me off 1-0 & healthy and take it from there.

Weeks 5, 6 & 7 will be the gauntlet as always. At Senior, At West Holmes & home to Ashland.

I think best case after week 7 is 4-3....and I don't think that's being overly optimistic.

Imperative we stay healthy or we could easily be 1-6.
