Havin FunIf the Bears win 4-5 games the coaching staff will have done a great job. From what I hear the line averages well under 200 lbs on both sides of the ball.
As hard as it is for some people to hear, there has been a major football talent gap at waynedale for the last couple of classes. Secondly, the leadership from last years seniors was.. well I won't go there. Just remember how the season started and ask if the coaches has any impact on those issues. Everyone who knows this class could tell you it was trouble with the exception of 5-10 really good kids. The good kids dominated on basketball and wrestling teams. That class is gone and this years seniors are really good, solid kids. Just no size again!
I see the Bears being able to beat TV, Triway, Rittman, Smithville, Chippewa and Dalton IF they play well. They could pull an upset against Ridgewood, NW or Hillsdale. No one will beat Norwayne this year in the league. My guess is that they wont even have a close game until next year. -
1486wdSo if they play well, they go 9-1. What a turnaround! They lost to the dawgs 46-7 last year or something like that. Now that's optimism!
-
Havin FunNo, I the Bears play well I think they will win 4 or 5 games. Yes they are capable of beating Dalton. Will they? Who knows. As I recall Dalton wasn't real good a year ago either.
-
1486wdYou re right in that Dalton was not very good last year, I was just pointing out that they rolled over the bears last year and return 8 or 9 starters on both sides of the ball. I do think waynedale will be improved this year though

Well, I thought Waynedale looked pretty good, but to say they layed the smack down on West Holmes is a bit of an overstatement. West Holmes did not score in their 10 play series but they methodically marched it down the field both times most of the 1's were in. Waynedale did score twice in the second series. However, the Perone kid only played 1 offensive series against them and no defensive series against them. West Holmes also was playing some 2's in the second series and did not play their starting qb at all. Not taking away from the bears, they played very well but wanted to get the facts straight. West Holmes goal for that scrimmage was to work on depth, something we desperately need to develop.Havin Fun;1488229 wrote:Heard the bears put the smack down on west Holmes and Tuslaw last night. I did not see it but heard they scored at will and have up no points to either.
With a senior class that has some leadership and class along with talent in the sophomore class, I look for a competitive team this year -
Havin FunAs I said, I was not there. I got my report from a WH and Waynedale person. They both said basically the same thing. We shall see. I am sure WH will have a nice team this year. I no nothing about Tuslaw so beating them may mean nothing either? The Bears will hopefully be improved this season.

beverboy1dalton had a good scrimmage with fairless and east canton ! dalton will be around 500 again, and little more competitive. they have a couple gms that could go either way that get them over 500 or go below !!!
-
99bobcatdbGood luck to all the kids starting back to school this week in the wcal, no matter what school you call your home!

RobBamseyOne thing that jumped out yesterday in reading The DR yesterday was the size of Northwestern on the line. Are they just big boys or are we talking athletic/fast big boys that will pave the way to a WCAL title and a deep playoff run? I still think Norwayne is the team to beat and Dalton impresses me minus all the injury's. Were getting closer to kickoff and I am pumped!!!!!!
I was already warned for only posting facts on here, so to my knowledge Norwayne just recieved 2 Rittman kids. Austin Jones will be a junior and with the type of football family this kid comes from he could be a sleeping giant if he decides to put the hard work in. The other kid kind of surprises me. The Underation kid, not sure of his name but he has also open-enrolled, I dont know what he is capable of on the football field but he seems to be a decent baseball player and with his brother-in-law Joe Staley being the head baseball coach in Rittman I am puzzled by the decision to switch schools. Football wise it makes sense but Joe has done a tremendous job building the baseball program in Rittman and with his primary sport being baseball I dont get it.
*****Sorry for the hardball talk on a football thread****** -
WalefanI heard about those transfers as well, they are definitely puzzling. The chipps have looked good so far. I think it may take a couple of years but with some patience I think we finally have a coach we can hang on to.
-
Havin FunFirst of all, the league needs Chippewa to turn it around. They are the biggest school in the league and once they are competitive again, it will improve everyone's playoff chances.
Not surprised by the news out of Rittman. Sad thing is their coach will be gone soon too and then they start over again.
Can't wait for some great games in a few Fridays! -
1_beastFinal 2013-'15 boys enrollment:
Waynedale 185
Northwestern 183
Chippewa 179
Norwayne 166
Smithville 154
Hillsdale 134
Dalton 127
Rittman 118

1486wdGetting off football for a second, if these numbers are correct, I think the bulldogs will be joining all our friends in Wooster for basketball districts this year. That would be a welcome change.
-
oldsmithieDid anyone get a chance to see the Smithville/ Crestview scrimmage? I know going in the numbers are down and it looks to be a rebuilding year.
-
madman11Rittman looked good in their scrimmage saturday against Crestline. The Indians did pretty much whatever they wanted with the 1st team in. My biggest concern is the size on our o-line. My guess is 2-4 wins this year
-
Old Rider
I heard just the opposite. I was told that over 60 kids were out for the green machine. Maybe my source was incorrect though.oldsmithie;1489330 wrote:Did anyone get a chance to see the Smithville/ Crestview scrimmage? I know going in the numbers are down and it looks to be a rebuilding year. -
Dr. KnOiTaLLMax Preps shows 37. This does not include freshman apparently.

Buckeyefan34I believe smithville is the only school in the wcal that does not dress their freshmen on Friday nights.
-
1486wdAt dalton, it depended on whether or not we had a freshman team. If we had a freshman team, they didn't dress. If not, they were part of the jv team and they did. Not that we had a freshman team most years anyway.

BobcatAbout a week from opening kickoff and almost no talk on here.
-
Havin FunI know. Why the dead space? Has Wayne County really lost it heart for football? It does feel that way. No one I know is even talking about it anymore!!??!?!

I think when there was that big uproar last year, a lot of guys left and stopped getting on here. This thread specifically has been pretty quiet since then.Havin Fun;1489958 wrote:I know. How's the health of area teams? I remember reading that Dalton had a few guys out, but they were hoping they'd be back for the scrimmage? Any info guys? The world has turned upside down with Norwayne and Northwestern being good, while Waynedale, Smithville and Dalton are bad. That's no fun for anybody..Havin Fun;1489958 wrote:I know. Havin FunWho is successful shouldn't matter? The only thing I can think of is that could football being losing its appeal? I mean most schools are seeing the lowest numbers for football ever.
