I feared that some Orrville faithful would resort back to the "Wooster should beat Orrville every year" argument the first time it looked like there was a good chance it may happen. I think most Orrville faithful would agree with me that whoever wins this game can usually feel a little better about a down season by beating their rival. It just makes no sense.Red Rider Nation;1296183 wrote:Beating a 1-7 Orrville team when you are 2 divisions higher then us should do Nothing to turn around a losing season. You should beat Orrville! if that's what you are banking your season on at this point then your football program should FOLD! That would be like Orrville saying if we could just beat Rittman everything would be fine! NOPE!!! -

Really? You go to that game next Saturday and report back to me how many people are there. Wooster never has a big following and Orrville fans stopped showing up after Week 3. Rivalry? Im not too sure. Not what it used to be on either side! -
CCRollyYou also may not want to schedule that team from Cleveland week 1 next year. After all, they are Divison I and should beat you every year since they're bigger....Geesh.

Are you serious this game draws the most fans from both sides no matter what record. I believe both teams have come into this game winless at some point and have beaten the favored team ask these kids if it didnt make their season.Red Rider Nation;1296785 wrote:Really? BRFI can tell you this. To the old folks around these parts, the Orrville-Wooster game (notice Orrville first ) IS A BIG DEAL!
Scarface is right that in the storied history there have been occasions when the underdog won and that is why it has always been said that you throw out the records when this game is played, even to this day. -

On the note of Wooster not having a good following. Up until this year i would agree one thing that has stayed consistent this year has been the fan base, yes it was down during the lex game but weather was bad. I have been more impressed with the amount of people that have been showing up despite the boys record. I think that Orrville still has plenty of people going to games and i am sure both communities will be well represented come next saturday.Red Rider Nation;1296785 wrote:Really? Just get me a head count next Saturday nite. A 2 win team vs a 1 win team wont draw too many no matter who is playing. I went to the Orrville/Lex game in Week 4 and there were less than 100 Orrville fans there. Just get me a head count!scarface1;1296895 wrote:On the note of Wooster not having a good following. sanitizerThese kids should be living and breathing the opportunity for bragging rights, if they aren't then both teams are in trouble. Hard year for the Riders without question and looks like the Woo is a little down as well. In my mind NONE OF THAT MATTERS in the game! Guys remember this is Orrville Wooster!!! We used to talk week one in the locker room about playing Wooster! No matter what the records these kids (most of them I'm sure) have shown up, sweat and bled for their towns this year. Win loose or draw! We both may me a little down in the talent department and have our share of head cases but heck that should just make for better entertainment! Hope it is a good hard hitting game and ALL these kids can walk away with no regret!

You're not a fan of Davault...we all get it...but one thing HE gets is Orrville vs. Wooster and what a big deal it is...because he lived it when he played in the 70's. He's never lost to Wooster, and gets the tradition that makes this the 6th longest running rivalry game in all of Ohio.Red Rider Nation;1298618 wrote:key word here is SHOULD!!
Could be 0-9 vs. 0-9...it's still a big deal.
It's all either team has to play for and both will give it their all.
Orrville will have special speakers after practice all week, guys that played and can communicate to our kids what it means and how this game means a whole lot more than 1 win.
As we age we think things have changed & get cynical...but we just have other priorities to worry about than high school football....but the 16-18 year olds on both sides know what a big deal it is.
Neither team will smell the November playoff grass...so this is as big as it gets this year. -
CCRollyWell said RedRider1. Week 10 will be the State Championship for both teams this year.

Fair enough call it what you want! -
Mr. 300Wooster comes to West Holmes tonight......I give Woo the edge cause they ALWAYS give us fits!!
-
iced earthWooster should be so much better than they are...The kids just don't understand it takes a little more than just GOOD EFFORT on every snap....it takes GREAT EFFORT on every snap. If they understood, their record would be much better.
-
Mr. 30043-0 in favor of West Holmes tonight. Wooster did their best hitting in their circle prior to kickoff....
-
BRFWe have a chance, then............based on comparative scores.

scarface1Dont know what to say about Wooster tonight. One of the worst efforts I have seen from a team in years. Then after game we have player a riding home with parents instead of with team WOW! and he is a senior. We have defensive player, one of those talented sophomores who just quit playing. No way he should play against Orrville next week. As I have said before we have about five seniors who even give an effort. The senior who went home with mom and dad was prancing around after a five yard catch like we were winning by 43 instead of losing by 43. Then another senior after game was more worried about the weather next week than the way we lost the game. This performance is not acceptable and should not be tolerated by this coaching staff. Haas should start the seniors who care and sit the rest I know this wont happen but it definitely would send a message to the team for next year. With all this being said I hope we come out with a much better effort next week and get a win against Orrville GO WOO!!!!

jacoThe sad truth, scarface, is that many of these kids are used to losing and have grown to accept it. Thats what defines a "culture of losing". There needs to be accountability, bu im afraid coach has compromised himself in order to get these "athletes" on the team. Case in point, the sophomore who joined the team two weeks ago and is now starting. Those sorts of kids are cancers. If youre gonna lose anyway, lose with character and send a message, not with clowns. What exactly is the message youre sending your freshmen and sophomores?
