    Haas takes higher profile job

    2015- start process over.
But that would mean he would have a winning record in his 3 years here. He has never done that before. Oh darn....what happened to my optimism?

If Haas leaves in three years (which I don't think it happens) he turns a revived program to the next coach and his tenure at Wooster is successful.

Whoever inherits the program from Haas inherits a much better program than Haas inherited.

Talked to Jeff Sourers last night....he coached with Haas at COW....he spoke very highly of the guy and convinced me that his record is due to circumstance and not ability.

Haas's X's and O's will be fine, the question is can he change the laid back Wooster mentality so many of the kids seem to have.
  • scarface1
you are right iced that is the big question some kids are very positive and have been working hard but it will be up to the senior class to step up and buy into the system right away

I def agree with you there. Haas is a HECK of a football coach. He'll get those kids heads right. From what i hear, the Sr. class wants to be a group of winners and "break the mold" of Wooster football
  • CCRolly
Like what I'm hearing about Haas. Hopefully he'll be able to get his system implemented fully by the time Week 1 rolls around.
  • Red Rum
I don't think there's any question Haas is a talented coach.
The question is "Will Wooster be yet another rung on the Doug Haas coaching ladder?"

If Wooster does experience success over the next several seasons, will Woo fans be reading a quotes like these in the paper-

"I can't say I was actively looking, but Cloverleaf contacted me and it moved along relatively quickly," said Haas, who was a finalist at Massillon Jackson in the only other job he applied for during this offseason.

"Like with Jackson, Cloverleaf is an opportunity to go to a bigger program with more kids to work with and that's appealing to me," Haas said. "It's a little bit more of a college feel I guess, and when you've been at that level like I was at The College of Wooster (assistant from 1995-2002), it will be more like that."

Haas will teach the same CBI (career based intervention) courses at Cloverleaf as he did at Triway. His wife, Heidi Haas, will remain a teacher and coach in the Triway District.
---info from Feb 28, 2009 Daily Record.

What if some D1 school like Mass. Jackson calls in a couple years? Will history repeat itself again?

I realize the deed is done and it's time to get on board and I wish Haas and the Generals much success. I'm just sayin' if Wooster was looking for their own "Mo Tipton/Keith Schrock" type long term coach, I'm not sold that it's Haas.

    Best of Luck Generals
  • THE4RINGZ
And I don't know if this new generation of coaches has anyone like Tipton/Schrock. Just like in almost everything else is our society we are focused on the short to mis term. The old saying "womb to tomb" doesn't apply to much any more.
  • Bloody Toothbrush
Red Rum is sour grapes because Bill Seders relative didn't get it.
  • GoJPM!
Wooster will never know, but Tim Seder would have made a very good head coach for them, imo.
  • Mr Miyagi
Miyagi just checking in to see if Haas is still the coach for Wooster or has he left for Jackson yet ?

He is still at Wooster. He is organizing a before school weight lifting club for his players, and players of other sports. Whoda thunk it???
  • CCRolly
McCreary just texted and asked what a weight lifting program is?

I do think the team will be much better prepared to play this season.

Haas landed his dream job, and for those of you saying that it will just be another 3 year stint I think you are wrong. Haas is one heck of a football coach, and I think the Generals will see much success with him..
As for the comments about his poor record and leaving schools, "Its not about the x's and the o's, its about the Jimmys' and the Joes!" Meaning, in each of his losing seasons he had an excellent plan in place and worked his tail off, he just did not have the players there to be successful..

I gave you reps for this post. I am glad to see someone who knows how Haas operates. I had hoped from the begining that Wooster would select him as the new head coach. I believe (from experience) he is a solid coach.

Coach Haas has already made arrangements to take the entire team to Ohio Northern for a week long camp this summer. Last week he visited Edgewood in the afternoon to talk to those boys. He informed the 8th graders that as incoming freshmen they'll be attending the camp, too. Gave a pep talk to the 7th graders about commitment to the program, etc.. I doubt they get 54 boys out for 8th grade football, but I think he clearly wants to keep the numbers up in the program. I think it's terrific news. And for the record, Coach Croc never attended a game any of these boys played, yet alone taking time to come down and talk to them. It left a positive impression on them, I know. Now I'm wondering who his assistants and lower level coaches will be..sure hope changes are made. Can't expect different results with the same people doing the same things.
  • THE4RINGZ
Glad to hear Haas is doing what we all hoped he would do. There is a terrific bubble of talent in the younger ranks, glad to see him giving them the attention they deserve.

There are going to be some assistants the same as last year but lets remember this will make the transition much easier and these guys did not agree with everything that went on over the last couple of years either. There will also be some new guys invovled also. We do have a new guy in charge and he does have all the kids more excited to play, hopefully it continues after the newness of the situation is over.

It is nice to see some of the Wooster fans start to come out of the woodwork on this site now.

Hallelujah Ringz! It was getting a little tiring holding down the Wooster fort for so long there. Glad to hear Haas is taking the time to visit Edgewood and so on. Excited about the week-long camp news also. It's the dawning of a new era of Wooster football...

He told the highschool kids about this during the first meeting just hope they get alot of kids to go because they have to pay to go. He is trying to give the kids incentives for participation in the off season workouts also, and more important if they do well in the classroom.

As far as junior high involvement goes, I know he had coaches at cloverleaf attend most games after the varsity practice and help out as much as possible. Haas is definitely great at selling the program and getting people to buy in!

Thanks for the "reps", so new to this I don't even know what it means but I think it must be good! haha
